  • Cheers, I picked up the Pirates of Caribbean set. Didn't receive good reviews but for $25, how bad can it be?

Also Ant Man and the Wasp 2 pack for $14.77.

    • +2

They're REALLY bad. Awful sound and flat picture.

    • $8.44 per movie + 2 free coasters

  • Cool, now I need to buy a bluray player. Any suggestions?

    • +1

      Ps5

      • +1

Xbox one S. Cheaper and supports Dolby Atmos

        • -2

Too old hardware imo. Now that PS5 is available at rrp or less it would be worth it.

          • +4

@kaleidoscope: As a 4k blu ray player it still works. I saw a second hand one for $130 a week ago. Compared to ~800 for a ps5, with neither supporting Dolby vision and the Xb1s at least supporting Atmos, it seems like a no brainer in favour of the 'older hardware'

      • Not much of a gamer tbh, have a PS4, but dont think it can play UHD blu rays

        • +1

          It definitely cannot

          • @Ninternet: Mine could , as the sales slave told me .
You just have to buy from Harvey Norman …

    • +1

      @cactusjuice make sure it's a 4K UHD varient just in case ;)

Panasonic ub450. Way to go. Don't even bother going with Sony or LG, you'll have freezing issues playing bd100 discs like me and thousands of people have. Also quality is superior with pana's processor.

If moolah isn't a barrier for you get the ub820 model instead. However I believe the 450 is the best catch for what you get vs money spent

      • Have the same player, its great. Also does a decent job upscaling regular blu rays.

      • Have the UB820 and it's great. Even does a decent job upscaling DVDs onto a 4K TV. Just wish I could get it to integrate with Home Assistant

      • Yeah this seems like a good call, thanks!

    • xbox one s

        No Dolby Vision

      • I would have agreed, but I'm seeing macroblocking and pixelation with 4kuhd discs on my one s - not so distracting on a smaller screen but definitely noticeable when using my projector. I also know it's not the projector as the issue is not seen from other sources such as Plex. Seems to have only just started happening so maybe it's due to a recent update. Had thought about getting an X but now I'm thinking about putting the money towards a dedicated player instead….

    • I am happy with my UB820, support dolby vision and atmos

  • Awesome. I was struggling to think of how to get it for $30 via JB BOGOF next month, now you've saved me the fuss AND some money!

  • Would a PS4 Pro be sufficient to play these in 4k?

    • No

    • Unfortanately the PS4 Pro doesn't have a 4K blu-ray drive

  • is the 4K worth it over the blu-ray?
    Already got the blu-ray.

    • Usually. Not always worth the cost though, especially since the upgrade is sometimes small.

    • It's up to you if you can see the difference / if you notice the difference when you're engrossed in the movie.

Did 720p vs 1080p make a difference to you?

For me personally, I'm fine with 720p+ for tv/movies.

      • +2

Yeah I can tell the difference between 720p vs 1080p vs 4K.
But not all 4K are great.

Cheers OP. Bought both. Long live 4K physical media.

  • +1

I was going to jump into this and buy it, but then I literally realised my pile of shame is in the garage collecting dust. As cheap as it is, I've jumped into too many of these deals in the past. Learn from my mistakes, and think logically if you really need these…

    • This - I literally went through the same thought process and managed to pull back just before hitting the buy button.
I have them all on 4K media files already but something was pulling my strings saying 'Don't miss out, you love these movies'. Then I had some internal argument that maybe I need a physical copy for if my network goes down or my hard drives fail etc etc.. Just making more excuses to waste money really.
Life is good if that was my hardest decision today…

      • You’re a lucky person 😄 Maybe you should consider supporting a charity or foundation that looks after the sick and poor. You’ll feel better than buying 4K BRs!

    • Start watching them!

  • Thanks OP!

  • Seems like the Pirates set is not proper/good 4k. see the reviews.

  • Thanks OP purchased from JBHifi just now, they priced matched online

    • Yep just did the same as I had a $10 perks birthday voucher waiting to use, $9.12! I don't actually own or watch blu-rays, guess I am going to start, or at least rip into a Plex server.

  • It says it has 8 discs, anyone know if it includes the standard bluray as well as the 4K bluray versions?

  • Awesome , was on my watch list for some time, just bought and closes all the tabs

  • It says oos, but I managed to get avengers a while ago at deal price. Not sure if it's due to a return or some stock levels being glitchy

  • I stepped up to 4K a bit after the release of End Game. And as someone that cycled through the dvd version many times. The 4K ran circles around the dvd (and its not even one of the "best" examples of 4K). Worth owning at $5 per movie!

  • Thanks OP 👍🏻
