I noticed you didn’t add it in the description on what this week freebie was when I posted it for that week for 2 consecutive weeks. Guess someone is still mad at me

Guess someone is still mad at me

      Evidently

    • +3

Noticed that too when i was trying to see earlier what i missed last week. I dont think they like linking to others posts

    • +4

      lol that's hilarious

  • +1

Thanks. Might be bored enough to give it another go, but I’ve tried a bunch of these floating in space games and none of them held my interest for more than a couple of hours.

A warning, the game doesn’t auto save, unless they fixed that.

This posting a week before it's available is getting ridiculous. Why even do it? If it were a one off deal to build awareness beforehand like the free will deal I get it but there is no point to doing it for free games. It just gets people to forget to attain it in a week or so. It also makes knowing what is available currently confusing.

        • +12

I can understand your POV, however the benefit of advance postings is that if you were thinking about buying a game then you might know it's free next week.

          • -7

@tof: I don't think people would have the same opinion if this happened to all deals listed on the site. Especially if they are available to get for over a week and can't go out of stock.

People would whinge it would be hard to know when things are available and things disappearing from the top of the thread.

@King Tightarse: What's your point? Am I supposed to be impressed by these research skills or something?

                • +1

@Conformist: The point is simple: you have contributed nothing yet you are whining about a generous contributor with over 4000 deals.
or to put it another way: you take but you give nothing.
People will take your opinion more seriously when you put in, rather than just leech

                  • -3

@King Tightarse: Please google Red Herring

                    • @Conformist: Come back once you've given the community a few good deals and people might react better.

                      • -1

@King Tightarse: Sounds really superficial. Im not looking for peoples approval. A lot of people do however. Happy to hear your point of view that isn't a red herring.

I have to agree with this. For the people who disagree/downvoting, i'm curious as to why you like this being posted a week in advance.

      • +13

        Few reasons:
        - to know about upcoming games being available for free, so if I'm thinking of spending money for them, I would hold off.
        - A lot of the times, AAA titles are also given away for free, so knowing about them as much in advance builds hype
        - Setting up reminders so that I ensure the giveaway is not missed (I don't mark the OzB notification as read until I've actually claimed the game)

        • Makes sense.

        • +3
          • if you're ever going to buy a game you can always look for it on the epic page. This happens every week and that's a very one off use case for the hundreds that miss on deals or have to inefficiently revisit because of this approach.
          • most people don't have an account or use one to set up reminders
          • the hype thing doesn't make sense to me

If this approach happened to every deal listed on this site (especially if they couldn't go out of stock or are available for a week) I can guarantee people would change their sentiment very quickly.

To me it sounds just a case of getting excited about trying a game rather than anything related to the efficiency of the approach.

I don't have too much beef with the approach but however have changed because it's gone to the point of nonsense where people are listing a deal that's happening in a week and then mentioning the last week deal in the post and the last week deal doesn't even unlock for the next 6 hours. It's just posters chasing positive votes to satisfy their own serotonin by now.

I'm actually curious why YOU think it's a smart idea to only post the deal on the day? In addition to starbearer's points:

        1. Not everyone checks Ozbargain daily.

        2. Everyone appreciates knowing in advance so they don't miss it on the day.

        3. Why are you treating these free games differently to other deals that are posted in advance? E.g. there's a free public transport deal posted recently: based on your proposed rules, that deal would only be allowed to be posted at the time the first bus runs in the morning.

        • +2

I don't treat the other deals differently, don't know why you think otherwise. If you are leading up to a deal that's a one day or a few hours only it makes sense to notify people as the chances are higher to miss out, however these are there for a week. This is a digital game, it does not go out of stock. And people who infrequently look aren't going to remember and revisit for just one deal a week or several days later.

@Conformist - it looks like you have only been a member of Ozb for a month or so and have not posted any deals. As a general rule, freeloaders should think twice before complaining about doers/contributors.

In case you are not aware, dealbot, has had the popular deals week after week for years. For me, it doesn't matter when, how or why dealbot posts these deals - I am just glad for the low-effort free-ride and I hope they keep posting these deals until I retire and finally have time to play any of these games.

      • -3

I'm not a freeloader. I've clicked on ads here before so I've made my contribution.

        • Freeloading is the Ozb Spirit! As a fellow freeloader, I certainly didn't mean it in a negative sense.

My point was that us freeloaders have a self-interest in encouraging/motivating those who we're benefitting from. Or in the very least, we should avoid demotivating them.

Once you start doing deal posts, you might see that it takes time and skills to do great deal posts, and dealbot is one of the best.

You might be interested to read his AMA post from a few years ago.

          • @Dinjay: There is no question people do a good job including people on this site. I just don't see how not contributing negates valid criticism. Same reason Ive done charity work and don't shut down anyone who criticises the work even if they haven't contributed. If their criticism is valid that's the only way to improve. Although I do take your point on criticism being demotivating as people can respond differently, I've just seen it happen for so long I thought I'd chip it in.

This game is fantastic, but make sure you get you ship upgrades in the correct order the game can become impossible.

Ugh why is everything first person nowadays. The poker game looks interesting though.

Sounds good, deal me in :D

I’m not trying to start a “why post a week in advance” argument but just wanted to comment that this deal confused me for a bit 😂. Popped up on the main page, clicked it, description says “next week” so I clicked the “this week” link and it directed me to an expired deal from last week 😂.

  • +1

Just use the reminder function and stop whingeing already, especially if you don't post deals.
Dealbot ads more value to this site than almost anyone

  • I saw this game sometime ago and it intrigued me. Just not enough to pay for it. :P
