      Boohoo poor Vic's

  • Tell me about it. I have worked in Korea for the last 9 years and it is painful flying back into Melbourne.

      In more ways than one.

  • Are any of the returns to Sydney direct?

    • +3

All of them, as far as I can see

You can use the filters to select Korean Air, and Direct Only, if you're not sure.

    • +2

As far as I know Korean Air only operates direct flights to Sydney.

      • -4

Not really, Asiana, and Qantas as well

        • +3

Not withstanding, Korean Air only operates direct flights to Sydney.

  • What's the best skyteam program for miles and statuses?

    • Imo ST isnt a great program. Oneworld and Star Alliance is superior.
Although my rec would be Delta or Air France/KLM

How do we actually get these prices? I tried clicking on $1087 13 May to 24 May and when I did the search Im only presented with a 1398 price.

    Edit: SYD TO SEOUL

Edit 2: Depending on dates you pick the small caveat is that at least 1 of the flights is non direct. Instead of a 10hr there's a 25hrs layover to Kuala Lumpa.

    • Keep searching, hopefully you’ll get the flights you want. Good luck!

    • Not quite, if it's with Korean Air it's always direct. You'll be seeing a different airline I presume?
The dates/prices fluctuate and as such, on a particular plane on a given date they may only have x tickets available. So then the price changes (usually up) if some are sold. Unfortunately the effect of a post like this is to cause more to be sold. But do try some of the other dates, they're still working for me.

Well yes, if you are to be specific as to say "if it's with Korean Air it's always direct" however the price list you have given in this post is not reflective of 100% direct flights. Whether this is due to the availabiity of the tickets sold/already sold, perhaps. Either going there or coming back there is a layover via another airline (For the cheapest price, filtered korean air only), there are however direct flights once you scroll a bit down at the end of the "korean air" list.

For example $1077 22 May to 14 Jun. Upon search and filtered through Korean Air "only" the cheapest option they have is $1084. Going there is via vietjet "strange cause the filter was suppose to be korean air only" and upon return it is direct Korean air.

One of my favourite airlines, their business class is probably not the greatest but the level of service makes up for it. Better not compare their flight attendants to the ones at Qantas.

How is Korea Air? If you have to choose between Qantas, Korea Air, which is better for this leg (disregarding price)?

    • I haven’t flown korea air but I’ve heard it’s one of the best, so I’m pretty sure nobody would reply and suggest qantas

      • +3

I'd pay more to avoid Qantas whenever possible and if it doesn't cause me too much inconvenience.

        • This. Until that Irish (profanity) is relieved of duty I avoid unless necessary.

    • If you're not tied to an alliance for status benefits (e.g. Oneworld for Qantas), Korean Air all the way.

    • +3

I’ve flown Korean air pre covid. Much better than Qantas.

On my return to Sydney on KAL I was very peeved when they turned on full lights at 3am to do breakfast service 2.5 hours before landing.

    • +1

Asiana > Korea air > Qantas

    • Qantas cancellation/change fees are just insane.. Assumed it was fixed like Asiana and Korean Air but I was very sorely mistaken.

  • Interesting. Got an invite to hang in Osaka in November, and you gotta stop somewhere out of BNE….

Back in the day (90s), flying to Europe on a budget, Korean Air was one of the cheapest.

A full return fare was slightly more than quoted in OP.

Included a stopover with free hotel and transfers in Seoul. Brings back the memories!

  • I am not sure it is still the same, but Korean Air frequent flyer program points never expire. I still receive email from the airline reminding me that I still have some left-over points.

Is it safe to book from https://au.mytrip.com/?

    • +1

I just came back from a trip with 3 tickets booked on MyTrip, no problems at all - app is actually pretty nice. Just make sure you pay with the surcharge free payment option (which seems to change randomly)

    • +1

Used them personally as recently as November, no issues.

    • +1

It is OTA like many other. As long as there are no cancellations or changes from your side it is fine.

This date is perfect for the conference. And would have really taken it. But personal circumstance has changed…
Will miss out this time unfortunately.

  • When clicked link to buy ticket, the mytrip.com changed to budgetair.com.au, is it the same company ? Also it asks for a $28 "service fee" per person, has anyone ever paid this fee before ? Is it really needed when I don't think Korean Air is going bankrupt any time soon ???

  • I would love to visit Japan again! S Korea? not so much, but thanks for sharing the info.
