Please Recommend under $1000 Good Front/Top Loader Washing Machine

Hi guys,

Can you please recommend a decently reliable under $1000 washing machine, prefer front loader. I looked at Facebook market but can't trust dodgy second hand washing machine which will break down after few months.

Update: Please also recommend a good top loading washing machine.

Meile machines tens to last for decades my experience. Could just be survivor bias though. Do you want to to survive for a long time, or just a good time?

    • Meile are out of my price range, they are like +1500$, I need something for the next 5 years at least.

just wait for someone to give one away on facebook/gumtree

Personally I wouldn't get a front loader. I've seen a loooooot of posts where the seal gets moldy even when they leave the door open after a wash. You'll need to dry it and clean it quite often. Top loader just clean the lint filter.

Anyway I looked at some posts and the Hisense 10kg front loader seems to have very good reviews. Also try to look for one without a rubber seal

Takes like 2 seconds to wipe the gap in the bottom of the seal where gravity places the trapped water with a sheet of paper towel or whatever. You'd have to be pretty lazy to not buy one just because you can't be bothered doing that.

I just did a search and there's multiple posts with this problem, especially the ones with rubber seals so it's not just enough to wipe it down in 2 seconds.

      • You'd have to be pretty lazy to not buy one just because you can't be bothered doing that.

Or disabled, or suffering depression or other mental illness or having executive dysfunction, or just really time poor.

Not everyone is “lazy” for not being able to do home tasks.

Some people really struggle, and if you know you won’t maintain a front loader because of any of these or other reasons, then why wouldn’t you just make it as easy for yourself as possible and not get one?

      • Do you do that after every wash?

    • Ok, can you please recommend a good top loader then?

      • I’ve always been a fan of the fisher and paykel range of toploaders. I’ve had a washsmart, and I’ve known others who have had one for 10+ years.

    • Had a front loader for 10 years before it broke down but the seal wasn’t mouldy at 10 years. I would wipe it ever Now and then and use vinegar rinse to clean the washing machine occasionally. Bought another one the same as we were happy with it

    • I've had an Electrolux front loader for a few years now (5-6ish?) and 0 mould issues. Before that I had an LG, also no mould issues but the pump died and flooded my entire house instead. The Electrolux a great machine and was pretty cheap, but it's only a smallish one since I don't have a big household, so may not fit OP's needs. The only bit that gets really gungy is the soap/powder drawer, but I have move to using sheet laundry detergent instead of liquid, so no longer an issue.

This is the closest (looks like a newer version of the same model): https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/electrolux-75kg-front-load-wa…

a samsung front load such as the WW75T504DTW has 2 year normal warranty+ a 20 year warranty on the digital inverter which might give an idea of how decently reliable it could be. RRP is $749, currently on sale for around 700 at most major retailers, not the biggest sale so definitely negotiate when you go in store if you choose to buy it
Update: if you go onto the good guys for this one, if you can see a button called daily price check, click it and it offers it for $638. Not sure if it always appears for everyone

    • My Samsung washer has died within warranty period and so far their support is leaving a LOT to be desired. Wouldn't buy another one at this rate

  • Combine gift card and this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/768350

Westinghouse is own by Electrolux and it’s the same model different look. My last Electrolux is 10 years old still going well. But need a new seal.

    • Ozb don't like Electrolux, mine like 12+ years (with use of fabric softeners) and still going hard. These days every brand last long, it just you have to pick the features you like and the water rating.

….and my crystal ball shows….of the hundreds of make/models available for current and historical review…..
First you need to do some homework yourself:-

Minimum Power and Water economy/star requirements,
How many in your family(daily/weekly/min number of wash loads),
Where is Australia you live(water hardness/weather/purchase/store options),
Type and make up of average and specific loads(gives Kg Min and or Max machine size),
Laundry space design - requirements(space/min/max size and configuration, plumbing situation),
Your specific needs, must haves, don't cares, delivery, installation, warranty etc and other optional information only YOU would know.

No go out there, look and research yourself, choose a few options that meet your needs and budget, then come back here.
Perhaps we can offer our reviews if we have any specific experience with a certain Make & Model.

    I have had 3 washers(1 x great, 1 x not great & 1 x still evaluating) and 1 x fantastic 2nd hand dryer in the last 25 years,
but I shall not recommend them to you unless I know if they are even close to your needs -
time wasting is not in my day to day list of approved things to do.

I do hope this helps, but remember, any or mass produced appliance can be a Monday, Wednesday or Friday build item, and you can can still buy the only dud of a brilliant run of machines.

    • I live in Brisbane QLD

      • You still need to go out and do all the research yourself. Does every suburb in Brisbane have the same water? C'mon man, do some stuff yourself.

    • Typo edit… Now go out there, look and re……

I love LG front loaders, would never consider a top loader.

Never had an issue with mould (I always leave the door slightly open), but I'm in Canberra. Humidity could play a part.

Size is also an important consideration.

This 9kg is at the top of your budget, you could get a smaller one for less.

Home Clearance is good to keep an eye on if you don't mind a few scratches.

      Why not?

Top loaders use more water and are tougher on your clothes

So you want top clothes destroyers?
    Yep they are faster,
safer with kids up to a certain age.
    Wasteful.

    • Are you top loader destroys clothes and are more wasteful.

    bosch washing machine

  • If its not too late, I recommend this new LG https://www.lg.com/au/washing-machines/lg-wv9-1609b.

The 10Kg white and black models are also coming soon.

Its actually got almost the same features as the top tier Miele WWV 980, ie 1600rpm, hot and cold water inlet, very similar efficient water and electricity usage.

I would NOT recommend an LG dryer tho as they do not have reverse cycle to prevent tangling. Go with an heat pump Electrolux if you need a dryer as well.
