    History low

I feel like this price for the 13 pro would be more reasonable. It’s about to be 2 generations old. Only saying that as it’s what I pay for the Pro that is 2 generations behind each two years. Got the 11 pro for $999 at jbhifi as the 13 was a few months from release.

    • +2

iPhone 13 is really only 1 generation or half generation behind iPhone 14. (Not the Pro model).

Because iPhone 14 uses the same CPU as iPhone 13. The only upgrades are sensors and cameras. That’s why I said half generation behind the current model.

      • -4

15 is released in September right? 4 months away. So in 4 months it will be 2 generations old, irrelevant of internal specs. 2 years less warranty, 2 years old.

        • +11

Why exactly would it have two years less warranty?

          • +15

@Mitch889: Probably because of feelings. Don't let actual facts get in the way.

Anyway, no deal. iPhone 17 will be out in three years - the next prime number.

          • +2

            @Mitch889: 2y less S/W support & reduced funtionality.
Phone arena: "the iPhone 13 is true conundrum. It is, in essence, cheaper iPhone 14. Additionally, despite having a price tag of us$700, it comes with a 60Hz display. In 2021, the lack of ProMotion made sense as it ensured the proper differentiation between the iPhone 13 & the iPhone 13 Pro. Now, however, this is borderline laughable."
128GB vs cheap microSD or fast/cheap Samsung T5/T7 1TB+ via fast USB-C 3.1/2 port on Android?

            • +1

@taki: Wouldn’t the reality it is a cheaper iPhone 14 mean it will end up effectively with the same length of support as the 14?
It is still one of the fastest phones in the market too.

          • @Mitch889: I mean support sorry

    • +10

I’ll be negged for this but I don’t see this phone as being a bargain at $1000+.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and with the exception of the camera it isn’t much better than my father’s $200 Motorola phone. Still has the 128gb storage, 60hz oled screen configuration, you get an always on display with the $200 phone that you don’t get with the $1xxx plus iPhones for some reason. Really bargain phones have gotten so good that the flagship’s offer little benefit over.

      • +9

True, however if you are in the iOS ecosphere (for whatever reason) what a compatible Android phone costs is sort of irrelevant

        • +2

That’s true, same with Samsung and Google. All try to lock you into their little ecosystem.

          • -6

@Ronnnie: On Android all your experience & apps are transferable/scaleable to better (eg. the superior Galaxy S23U that is faster & longer battery than any iPhone). On iOS you are stuck with very limited OS (like 2seetear vs 4WD Android, not as fast on city roads, but on any road vs no function on iOS).
Different marketing (limiting belief) mindset ;)

        • its a shame. essentially paying $800 for the iOS experience.

      • +3

it really just depends on each person's needs.

        • +4

If people actually bought based on needs there would be very few flagship phones being sold.

          • +2

@Brianqpr: If that was the case many would need a dedicated camera too if they were only buying cheapo phones

        • +1

Honestly. What are a persons needs other than making calls, sms, surfing web, bank apps etc

      • +3

Agree with this. Everyone else in my family has iPhones while I have a redmi note 10 pro that cost me about $350.

I just don't get why people buy iPhones. They are perfectly decent, but I actually prefer my phone and my battery lasts way longer than them when we are out or away on holiday.

Just a marketing con. You don't need them in the same way you don't need a Ferrari to get to work.

That said, this is a good deal if you want this phone.

      • +7

Having been on android for close to 11 years, now I would gladly pay $1k for a phone that lasts and is well made. I always bought pixels, nexus, galaxy top end models, they never lasted more than 2 years without slowing or having issues. I would rather spend a grand and have a phone that lasts 5 years with supported battery replacement. If you don’t do much on phones then for sure cheap phones will get better value, I’m taking photos and videos of my kids so I need a great camera and seeing all the videos on my old androids make them look like they were taken a decade ago. Just depends what you need hey

        • Just let you know, my Samsung s8 lasts more than 5 years (has been dropped more than 10 times ) while my son's iPhone got issues within 2 years.

          • @mcha16: Wow that’s awesome! I upgraded my s8 to s10e after the s8 camera app kept force closing, then eventually an update fixed it, but the battery started expanding. The s10e was one of my favourite phones, but after a few updates the battery barely lasted half a day, it would get hot, so I got it replaced and the replacement had hardware button issues, and by the end of almost 2 years it just felt so slow even after factory resets. Testing side by side, iPhone 11 Pro loaded most websites and apps significantly faster, and was so much more consistent and reliable. My s10e battery ballooned while in storage too. This is all individual experience, but I’ve never owned an android phones in 11 years that didn’t have issues after a year or two. Perhaps you just don’t notice them?

            • @onlinepred: I think it's depends on luck. But I admit my S8's battery can't last for 24 hours nowadays.

              • @mcha16: Yep it was just too hit and miss for me. I had my partner try an iPhone first, and for them it was instant love, almost doubling the battery life coming from a pixel 4xl, and they never say anything about camera and performance, but when they moved to iPhone they straight away said how much they enjoyed it. Notifications are a massive pain point still. I’m also getting almost double the SOT which is crazy. Used to charge my s10e almost twice a day, now it’s once a day, or once every two days. And given my iPhone 11pro is 3 generations old, it’s still lightning fast, and it’s camera is still incredible, and for $100 I can get a new battery from apple with a water seal test. Way too expensive RRP though.

                • @onlinepred: May i ask how can you get a new battery for only $100?

                  • @mcha16: I think they changed it to $145 now from apple. It was $100 almost 2 years ago when I replaced my partners iPhone battery. Bought a second hand one that was in perfect condition but battery was below 70%, so paid apple $100 for a new one sealed.

      • Sounds good. What Motorola phone can I get for $200? Is it as fast as the iPhone?

    • Amazon are selling the 13 Pro Max 256GB for $1944. Which is a ripoff, I agree, but the iPhone 13 for very close to 1/2 of that is a good price, comparatively.

      • Amazon are selling the 13 Pro Max 256GB for $1944

Where are Amazon selling the 13 Pro Max 256GB? There's only "Renewed" models on sale from 3rd party sellers.

    History low

Not quite. Cheaper @ $999, Telstra Day Aug 22

    • +2

I think they were referring to the camels

      • +4

        3 camels for $999. Now that’s a deal

  • +1

Can i buy this at apple, take a screenshot of this deal and claim price protection on my card?

    • Surely can mate , have done this in the past

    • +2

Yes you can. Show the Amazon app to Apple employee there and they will price match.

      • Wow I didn’t know they did this

      • So Apple will price match and you can pay with apple gift cards that are currently 10% off at BigW considering 20X rewards points?

    • +1

Why not? If your card has price protection (like those old 28 degrees CC).

  • +2

OW and JB were quick to match and update the price on their website.

Must be having an algorithm to avoid beating the price by 5%

    • you can still try price match the 512gb models tho

  • +5

Looks like there's space for price to drop more towards EOFY sale

  • Anyone know if this qualify for Cashback on either Cashrewards or ShopBack ?

Can’t seem to find the category

  • +1

Visited the Apple store but heck they won't price match, said max they would do is 10% off :\
    Anyone dealt with them before?
Wondering if I can claim price protection on card if I paid partial via GC?

    • You need to call apple on 13 number for a price match

      • Tried that, no luck.

  • Non pro is meh

  • +1

    What about the mini :(

  • +2

Non pro is a BIG pro no at this price.

  • did someone say amaysim????!!!

  • +1

I think the s23 ultra at around $1,200 was a better buy. For people who prefer iOS this is still a great deal considering the iPhone 14 was basically just a internal redesign.

    • -3

iPhone SE is a better buy than the S23 ultra.

    • I agree that S23 ultra this year is awesome, especially in battery life, so it mainly depends on which OS you prefer.

      • With iOS 16 being more buggy then the last few iOS updates, i would consider the switch over to android.

    • +1

Or the S23 at around $600 considering the similarity in screen size and storage. I wanted to grab iPhone 15 later this year, but the S23 series values just can't be beaten right now.

  • Man WTH, does anyone think Apple will ever drop the price of the 13 mini? 128gb still $1049 and 256GB $1219. I wonder how much stock they actually still have of them? Other than Apple, Officeworks and Amazon seem like the only big retailers left with any stock of them but been watching for months and never reduced. Spewing missed out on that Harvey Norman deal months ago…

    • +1

      Highly unlikely.
Apple understands there's no competitor in the ecosystem, so dropping prices of old or some models, is more to impact its sales(& profit) of other full price models.

It knows how to precisely control distributors inventory, almost impossible for any of its retailers to dump stock to impact its overall profit, nor to leave end customers with expectation of heavy discount.

12 mini with heavy discount a few weeks ago at Amaysim is a very rare case.
