They’re running out of cash again?

    • Either that or Bain are trying to pump the Velocity loyalty business for the sake of the IPO.

      • Or both.

      • They sell the points to these companies , that’s the business model. how is 15% bonus any different to a store offering 15% discount on a product?

        • VFF get to hold cash until the points are actually spent whereas goods are usually paid for by the retailer before or shortly after they’re sold.

Some people will sit on these points for years, especially when VFF doesn’t have a hard expiry

          • @ol mate: Agreed. Just like gift cards at Coles and co, who do similar discounts all the time

  • -1

I will consider Velocity when they actually add ANA. Otherwise nah!!

    • What points do ANA use? Krisflyer?

  • Citi Rewards 1:1 with Velocity?

    • not that i can see

    • +2

Citi Premier and Citi Prestige: Currently 2 Citi reward points equals 1 Velocity Point.
Citi Rewards: Currently 2.5 Citi reward points equals 1 Velocity Point.

    • not worth transferring to velocity if you are not after velocity points for this deal.

      • What else to use Citi points for?

        • I go for krisflyer (Singapore airline) but you can also use for flybuys or cashback. I have citi premier and it's 250 points per $1 cashback.

  • +1

Excellent. Been waiting for this, have a stack of Westpac Altitude that I'll transfer to velocity..

  • I think it is usually Citi that gets a 25% bonus, 20% for AMEX, and 15% for other banks.

    • +3

      ANZ used to do 30%

      • Used to do 50% (15% from Velocity + 35% boost from ANZ) with ANZ Travel Adventure Card.

        • I miss those days

          • @daft009: I missed ANZ Amex card the most, the first and only Amex card without fx fee and earned 1.5 pts / $1 spend 😪

    • +2

Oh so I should wait for citi to do the 25% any idea when the normally do it?

  • Legend, thanks OP! I've been holding onto my Citi Prestige points for over 6 months waiting for this…. come on spinner!!!

  • I did an email the other day from citi saying something was about to pop up… Good to hear it's sooner rather than later!

  • Is this Flybuys too? Woolworths rewards?

    • +2

Looks like Flybuys is a no, again.

Woolworths rewards is associated with QFF so won't appear on a Velocity promo :(

      • Thank you!

I had no idea, at least I know what to wait for now for both programs.

        Appreciate it

    • Sadly not. I’ve been waiting for a flybuys deal to transfer over my points for a while now.

    • Won't happen again for Flybuys to Velocity. A couple years ago they improved the conversion rate from 2000 flybuys for 870 Velocity to a 2:1 rate. This is effectively a 19% automatic boost

  • Worth transferring to Velocity or KrisFlyer from Citi points?

    • Would probably transfer to Velocity get the extra 15% and then to Krisflyer IF the Citi:Krisflyer is NOT 1:1.

      • It’s an odd one to calculate as it’s 2.5:1 for KrisFlyer and 2:1 for Velocity but it’s also 1.55;1 when converting Velocity to KrisFlyer

        • -3

With 15% bonus converting city to velocity first would give you 2.45:1 krisflyer conversion, slightly better than 2.5

Amex -> Bonus Velocity -> Krisflyer conversion would cost you 2.82 per point instead of normal 2 point for direct transfer, ie not worth it

          • +5

@evgpek: Is that how it works? Let's say I have 300000 Citi points and I convert to Velocity I get 150000 + bonus 22500 so 172500 total.

And if I convert 172500 Velocity to KrisFlyer at a 1.55:1 that means I'd get 111290 KrisFlyer points instead of the 120000 for straight Citi to KrisFlyer conversion.

Am I doing the math wrong?

            • @Subrising: Good one. Want to know too.

            • +2

@Subrising: No it's not. You need a 25% citi->velocity transfer bonus to break even for converting to KF.

            • @Subrising: Correct, transferring direct gets you 0.4 krisflyer miles vs transferring via valocity with this promo gets you 0.37096 miles per citi point.

However, if you need to transfer out citi now (looking at closing card etc) and want somewhere you can park points with no expiry, it might be worth it to transfer to velocity with this promo (as krisflyer miles expire)

    • +1

If you want to fly SIA it'll always be better converting to KF because of better availability of seats. But KF points expire so as long as you redeem them within that time period it's fine. Keep in mind also if you're looking for biz class flights to SIN for example, you're likely going to need to book like 12 months in advance or close to.

So short answer is it depends where u want to fly. If you're not intending to fly soon then maybe parking them in velocity is a valid option and converting later when you need to (or just keep them in your cc account)

      • If you're booking in advance SQ seems to have better availability. If you're booking near term (month out or so) it seems VA has availability that doesn't appear on SQ.

      • I’m in Europe as we speak, booked via VA on Sing business a year ago and had no dramas , you just have to be organised and hunt them as they drop

        • How do you track when they "drop"?

  • Probably a bit off topic but has anyone transferred Velocity points from one account to another? If so, could anyone tell me how it works? Thanks

    • +1

You can do family pool, 2x adults and 4x children into 1 account. As far as I am aware no transfer for velocity.

      • +4

You can transfer velocity points to someone else (family member) - you will see the option on one of the tabs on your account. It is instant.

    • +1

Yes minimum 5000 transfer for one off

Or you can setup family pool which it will auto transfer every point to the other account automatically

You need do this on a desktop site

  • Are participating partners only the ones listed on the landing page? So no bonus if I transfer from KrisFlyer to Velocity. Have some KrisFlyer points (which expire soon) and I am not much of a points user. So would rather transfer to Velocity and leave it there.

    • It's /1.55 for KF to velocity unfortunately.
      Better than them expiring.
      No bonuses

  • +3

Looks like Citi is only 15%.. what a shame

  • 15 for everyone except Ascent Premium 20%

  • Nothing for flybuys. That's a shame.

    • I don't think Flybuys have had an enhanced redemption in a couple of years now.

  • +1

Hmmm I might hold out until Citi and ANZ are 20%+

  • It's probably been years since the last one and velocity rewards might have changed management but wish one day, the

XX% Bonus Points When Converting from Flybuys to Velocity would come back

    • It’ll absolutely be back at some point. They’re still partners.

      • I hope so buddy

  • +2

What a shame this was not as good as last year's, was holding out to convert Citi points from the Prestige welcome bonus.

    • I was also hoping for 20 or 25% from Citi Prestige, but might bite the bullet and transfer now as my annual fee is due late October and might miss the next regular bonus round (2022 - Oct, 2020 and 2021 - Nov) and I don't think I want to pay the $700 annual fee.

      • +1

May be worth it as you can still get 20k points per month with that Citi Payall. So 96k KF miles annually, with other perks like Priority pass, 1 luxury transfer (up to $100), etc.

        • +2

Plus the interest on 20k would cover most of the annual fee.

          • @Autonomic: He's saying his annual fee is due late October. This is also the time when the fee free PayAll promotion expires, there is not much incentive to keep transferring $20k every month with the usual 2% fee..

            • +4

@b0b0: Supposedly if you set any future transfers (after October) before the October cut off, those transfers remain fee free.

              • @JR63: :O !!!!!!!! Wait what ?

I just tried doing it, the app keeps giving me the error message that I am over the limit for that category I selected.

                • +1

@b0b0: Had you recently (within the same 24 hours or so) deleted a scheduled transfer? If so, you need to wait 24 hours after you deleted it.

  • +1

Wow that was easy, transferred from ANZ Rewards and received the Velocity Points including bonus instantly

  • will just transfer to Kris, been able to score at a rewards flight for the family late Jan (BKK-Syd) 2 years in a row now.

  • Has anyone been able to get through to the IHG call centre on the (02) 9935 8362 number?

Every time I call it seems to hang up in about 10 seconds as soon as the hold music ends.

  • Have some points with HSBC but did they remove SQ as a partner? Only velocity available so might bite the bullet and transfer to Velocity first for 15% bonus then transfer to KF

  • +1

Anyone transferred Citi to Velocity recently? Curious how long it takes to transfer.

    • Waiting game it seems. The email say "up top 28 days".

      • +1

        Hope not!

        • IKR. I only did a smaller test transfer. .

    • If anyone has transferred form Citi please let us know how long it took and confirm if you received the 15% bonus

With the recent Commbank 15% bonus offer it was instant

    • Last time I transferred from Citi to Velocity in March it took 2 days. YMMV.

    • I transferred some last week, and it took overnight to process. ymmv

    • +2

I did a transfer yesterday morning and points plus the bonus have landed in my account already. Took less than 24 hours.

      • Can confirm - same thing for me.

The date in velocity activity is 30 April, but still got the transfer bonus anyway

        • +1

I transferred 10K Citi yesterday 01/05. Nothing as of this morning but it showed up sometime later today, however shows as "30 April" and only 5K Velocity points. No sign of bonus points in that transfer or any separate line item. Chatting to Velocity support is about as useful as asking my dog just saying "will be credited within the promotion period".

          • @Xizor: Still no sign of bonus points?

            • @beesider: Nope and I lodged a complaint with Citi couple of weeks ago as well as the escalation email on their website and still haven’t heard a thing

              • @JHoliday: Finally they have responded to my complaint and said they have been following up with the Rewards Team but haven’t been able to get it resolved and have asked to wait to Friday for a further update.

  • 20% bonus points if you hold an American Express Platinum card. I just transferred my points over to Velocity and took less than an hour to get credited (including bonus points).

  • I have 150K … Is it worth transferring all of it now? Also, Is this transfer only good if I were to book flight tickets?

New to the points game! TIA

    • Yes and yes. If that is not of interest better to redeem with Citi for something else.

  • I thought I would transfer to Krisflyer and transfer to Velocity if I don't use them before the expiry, however this sucks. You lose more than half of your points.

For every 1.55 KrisFlyer miles you transfer, you will receive 1 Velocity Point. When transferring from Velocity Frequent Flyer to KrisFlyer, the conversion rate will also be at a rate of 1.55 Velocity points to 1 KrisFlyer mile.

  • Hopefully there's a deal for flybuys.. got a fair amount sitting in flybuys but the last deal for 15% extra was 3 years ago…

  • +1

Transferred some citi points yesterday. Got velocity today, but no sign of any bonus points?

    • +1

Same here. I transferred 5000 Citi points yesterday and got the 2000 Velocity points today, but no sign of the bonus points :(

      • Misery likes company. Hopefully it shows up soon.

        • Will try email their support at [email protected] , although not sure if I should be contacting Citi instead?

          • @JHoliday: I contacted velocity. All they would say is it will be issued sometime during the promotion period. Maybe you'll reach someone more insightful. :)

            • +1

@Xizor: I've emailed Citi first instead of Velocity at [email protected] , so will see if anything comes of it.

              • @JHoliday: I have done two transfers now from Citi Prestige at 2:1 receiving 5,000 and 10,000 Velocity points. No bonus points still anywhere in sight after several days. What on earth is going on…

                • @Xizor: Still no reply to my email from Citi, there is a complaints email I think we can try

                  https://www1.citibank.com.au/our-complaints-process

                  • @JHoliday: Mate, check your email. I just noticed what i received from Velocity on Monday says i need to "opt in" to either:

                    Option 1:
Receive 17% bonus Points used on a flight booking back to your Velocity account*
                    or
                    Option 2:
Receive an extra 15% bonus Points to the amount you transfer*

Then selecting Option 2, my bank, Citi is NOT listed!!!!!
Its only BankSA, Bank Melb, CBA, HSBC, NAB, StGeorge, Wespac.

                    Wtf

EDIT 1: Just checked the email my partner received and its different to mine and this post! She has more banks listed than me, but still not Citi.

EDIT 2: Yet in OP landing page FAQ it says "
While we have sent this offer to a select group of members (those who have subscribed to ‘Other Partner Offers’), the transfer offer is open to all existing and new Velocity members." This totally contradicts the email (and page it directs to) i received that clearly lists only a subset of banks.

                    • @Xizor: I did some digging around on AFF and a Velocity FB group.

Looks like people who hold direct earn cards (e.g. Amex Velocity) had to opt in and choose whether they wanted option 1 or option 2.

                      • @ol mate: @ol mate I have Citi Prestige. It earns Citi Points. Citi was not listed on the email i received. My partner received a totally different email to me as well but still no Citi. This is a shocking confusing campaign these people have run. It's all contradictory.

                        • @Xizor: I haven't seen or received said email (as I don't, and never have, held a direct-earn card), but the T&Cs on the velocity website doesn't say Citi is opt in. Do the T&Cs in the email say that the list is exhaustive?

Transfer your credit card and hotel reward points from these 20 participating partners to Velocity. When you do, you’ll receive a minimum 15% bonus into your Velocity account. Minimum points transfer, exclusions and T&Cs apply.*

                          • @ol mate: @ol mate
I have raised a case with Velocity and am on the phone with them now. Gone through 2 escalations to 3 people in Phills, they didnt even know of campaign. They asked i send email of the velocity webpage of promotion (i sent the generic campaign landing page this thread links to) and sent screenshots of FAQ saying its "open to everyone" and not receiving bonus points. They have me on hold… clearly the email i received though specifically does not list Citibank and contradicts the generic campaign page.

EDIT 10:45AM: Velocity support have no idea. They want me to wait another 72hrs as their support material say it may take that long, despite my first transaction was on May 1 (yet somehow shows as April 30 in Velocity). They almost a confused as i am i think. Strongly urge anyone with Citi make sure you check that Citi is listed in the email you received and do any Opt in requested otherwise you may end in same boat as me.

The email i received does not list Citi Bank and i am not receiving bonus points. Seems targeted to me but agree it contradicts the generic campaign page.
