Velocity members will receive 15% bonus Velocity Points when they transfer eligible points from Participating Partners to Velocity into Velocity Points between 12:01am AEST 1 May 2023 and 11:59pm AEST 31 May 2023 (“Promotion Period”). • @Xizor: Did you end up getting this resolved? Also transferred recently from citi prestige and did not receive bonus points. What would be the best course of action to follow up?

                              • @rmbargain: Nope. Going to call Velocity tomorrow.

                              • @rmbargain: Just followed them up today as im owed approx 26k bonus points by my reckoning. They kept me on hold for over half an hour then said they need to escalate to higher team and to wait another 3-5 days. Fingers crossed.

                                • @Xizor: @rmbargain: To update…. STILL not one points. On June 2 they said they needed to escalate to get approval to apply it. Now today, June 15, they said i need to wait to June 30 as per promotion terms (which i never saw stated anywhere and they never mentioned in any prior calls). The saga continues!

    • I transferred and received the bonus instantly.

    • Same here with Citi. Transferred on 12 May, then on 16 May. Received both points transfers on 17 May. Both without bonus points. Damn, seems I need to chase them up.

      • Spent an hour on the phone with them and like with everyone else they asked to send a screenshot of the promotion. Then they said to wait up to 6 weeks for the bonus points to land.

I just don't get why some are getting the bonus instantly whereas others aren't. The support couldn't tell me why.

      • Transferred for the 3rd time on 17 May. Received the transfer the same day without the bonus points. Looks like some accounts are excluded from automatic bonus points. I can't find another explanation. It's not a one-off error.

Transferred from Citbank to Velocity Friday 2PM, points in my account Wednesday 3May, including 15% bonus.

CREDIT CARD: 01 May 23 - REWARDS POINTS TRANSFER

FREQUENT FLYER DEPARTMENT 01 May 23 - 15% Transfer Bonus Points May 2023

  • FYI, transferred my Citi Prestige points (2:1 rate). Took 2 days, got the bonus as well. Happy days.

  • If you only want gift cards I am guessing Citi -> flybuys is still better than CC->velocity->gift card

    Has anyone done the maths?

    • +1

Yes I did the math, redeeming gift cards from velocity is almost 2x worse than just redeeming from Citi/Flybuys. The bonus does not help much here
      Spreadsheet: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13333652/redir

Basically do not convert your points if you want gift cards, redeeming from Citi is much better value.
Exception is if you want Coles, Kmart, Target or TCN cards then transfer to Flybuys for slightly more value. Note Flybuys have a more limited range, eg. No Amazon and eBay.

      • Thanks

      • +1

Yeah I just did the calc and compared a $100 Coles gift card from Citi vs $100 Coles gift card from Velocity.

        Citi: 1 pt = 0.51c
        Velocity: 1pt = 0.478c

That's roughly comparable. The clincher is that transferring from Citi to Velocity is 2:1 so (without the 15% bonus) you're roughly going from a $100 Coles gift card to a $50 Coles gift card for the same points. With the 15% bonus, it's still not 1:1.

I haven't read the rest of this thread in depth but people are talking a lot about Krisflyer, so I assume if you want to use the points for flights then this bonus might be worthwhile, but for gift cards it isn't.

Think I'll keep using my points to get Coles vouchers to pay for shopping.

  • WARNING!!! It appears to be targeted. Not everyone is getting the full list of banks!!

    • I'll cross reply here as well as to your other commenty.

I did some digging around on AFF and a Velocity FB group.

Looks like people who hold direct earn cards (e.g. Amex Velocity) had to opt in and choose whether they wanted option 1 or option 2.

I wouldn't say it's targeted (i.e. only a selected group of people), but rather a targeted group need to pick their option whilst the majority don't.

I've reported the post to Mods - they can make the call to see if it's targeted or not.

Edit: Mod's have rejected the report. Looks like this isn't considered targeted if a subset of people need to make their choice.

To re-cap, the email i received does not list Citi Bank and i am not receiving bonus points. My Card is Citi Prestige that generates Citi Points, not direct earn. Totally agree this all contradicts the generic campaign page.

        • +1

There is a trickle of other people out there experiencing the same as i reported, no bonus points, and they also got the different campaign email that does not include Citi in the terms.

Mods/admin this post really should be warned as targeted. It may only be a small subset impacted but the terms are clearly not the same and exclude certain banks!

          • @Xizor: If you want the mods to notice your request report the deal and submit your information so it can be seen by a mod in the reports queue.

            • +2

@daanish: I already did and it was denied without any dialogue. All i can do is post and hope it helps someone else.

EDIT: To add further evidence I did a test with my partner yesterday who has the Citi Premier card and did NOT receive the same email i did, and she got the normal + bonus points today, 1 day after transfer. I however received an email that listed a subset of banks but not Citi, have done 3 transfers from my Citi Prestige since May 1, and only received normal points. No bonus.

Having worked with big data and marketing in the past and given the email i received with different terms, its evident Velocity are running multiple campaigns. At best they have screwed up their collateral/support material because one contradicts the other. At worst they have run a campaign in error or with flawed data.

I have open support tickets with both Citi and Velocity to clarify and neither even had a clue about the campaigns, requested i email links and screenshots, and have asked me to wait.

              • +1

@Xizor: I just wanted to make sure you'd reported the deal rather than hoping a mod saw your comment. Shame they didn't want to enter into any discourse about it though.

Regarding your edit, I don't have a Citi Premier card so I've got no dog in this fight. I have no doubt you're correct in your description of the issues at hand. Thanks for taking the time to investigate for the betterment of the community.

                • +1

@daanish: No worries. To add, i have read reports of other Citi Prestige holders that have got bonus points and at least 2 others like me who have not. Email experiences aligned to what i reported further up in this deal. So no evidence its card specific but rather down to the customer level.

                  • @Xizor: did you get any further? I just did a transfer from citi prestige and no bonus points….

                    • @ozbargainerlife1: Not yet, am on holidays for another 10 days so i guess i'll be back on the phone at them then.

  • Another Prestige holder here (Citi points) that got the bonus. I never received any email from Citi nor Velocity about this campaign.
It's weird that some Prestige holders don't get this but others do.

  • Anyone knows if we can transfer citi prestige points into a velocity account under a different name than the credit holder's name?

    • +2

Says in the terms and conditions on the transfer page it has to be the same, and you also can't change the name on the transfer page.

You could always transfer it to your own name, and then do a family transfer with Velocity once the points have landed.

  • is this worth doing? I have like 400k Westpac Altitude points, which I dont know what to use them for..
suggestion what the best things to get which use Altitude points?

    • Depends what rewards you want.

This will give you 200k + 30k VFF points. 160k velocity points + taxes (about AU$500) gets you to London in business on SQ (if you can find reward seats) for one person

      • How easy to find reward seats?
Are they only available during off peak periods?
        I never claim points before..

  • I have a Amex Velocity Platinum that has been automatically transferring to my velocity account every so often.
Am I eligible for this? and if so, how would I activate?

    • You have a direct earn card, so don’t get the 15% bonus.

You should’ve gotten an email offering a discount/rebate on points bookings -

Warning for those with Direct Earning cards
It appears that people who have received VFF cards from a direct earning card (e.g. Amex Velocity or Virgin Money) need to select option 1 or option 2 on an email that VFF has sent out (17% back on bookings or this bonus).

  • Transferred points from HSBC Platinum card, took 1 day to process and also received bonus points pretty much straight away 😀

  • No issues getting the 15% bonus with my Citi Prestige card. Arrived on the same day as the rest of the points.

    • Lucky you. I made 3 transfers from Citi Prestige on different dates, received them all without any bonus points. Some accounts seem to be excluded from the promotion.

  • Transferred from both premium and the prestige and got the bonus for both.

  • Transferred on the prestige on Friday, got the points Monday night, but no sign of the bonus

  • +1

What are the chances a 25% from Citi will come up this year? Is this something they do relatively frequently? I've always had direct points earn cards so not sure what the go is.

    • They seem to do a deal in May and October most years, so we'll probably see one in October.

What % it will be, who knows! The last two times before this one it's been 25-30%. Whether this is a once off or a sign of things to come is anyone's guess.

  • Transferred from St George Amplify on Friday (26th), and landed in my Velocity account with bonus points within 24 hours. The date in velocity shows 25th though.

  • Transfers seem to be slow today from ANZ Rewards. The transfer seems to happen near-instantly most of the time, including when I transferred on May 1. Today it's been sitting on pending for 5 hours and no email confirmation. Hopefully will still be honoured if it doesn't go through until tomorrow.

  • Any one have any issues with Commonwealth Bank bonus points not coming through?

  • +1

My bonus points have finally come through for my two Citi transfers. The first lot of bonus points came a few days ago. The second was credited today.

    • Nice one! I still haven't receive mine :( Can you outline the process you took to escalate it with velocity?

      • I lodged a complaint with Citi and they came back saying this has nothing to do with them and it’s a Velocity promotion and the missing points need to be added by Velocity.

I did email [email protected] although haven’t yet received a response, so not sure if the email had an effect or not in getting those points added.

    • Same with me. It took them a month to credit me the bonus points from 3 separate Citi transfers. Took 3 phone calls and a couple of email back and forths. On one call they tried to convince me this is an opt in promotion and I didn't opt in hence no bonus points. Had to educate them on their own promo.

    • Original transfers 21/05. Got the bonus points earlier this week. I did not contact either Citi or Velocity.
