Is this really worth double the price over the DGF*?

    • *(besides the refresh rate)
    • +3

Is it better? Slightly, but I would agree, not enough to justify doubling the price.

S2721DGF is short this monitor by:
      -refresh rate (270hz vs 165hz)
-65W usb type c hub (pretty nice to have imo)
-2W speakers (meh but nice to have if you really want speakers)

current price on ozb for the dell is ~$341, up to you if this is worth the extra money

      • +1

2 valid points apart from if you're spending 799 on a monitor you're prob not relying on inbuilt speakers

I was undergoing this same debate.

Ended up getting 2x S2721DGF's had a friend who got me student discount codes and got it down to $335 each delivered. Paid $670 to replace both my monitors.

Better than 1 monitor I may or may not be able to support the extra frames on for $130 extra imo.

I think a 240+hz monitor caters to only small percentage of gamers that are willing to pay a premium. Anything above 165hz is going to be a premium and thats where prices increase exponentially.

And honestly, even at 144hz it's plenty good enough already, I really don't see how it can be that much better at 240hz+

        • +1

While it's not as big as 60-144, it's still quite a decent upgrade

    • Double the Hz double the price

    • Same thought here. As much as I wanted a fancy, expensive monitor, the value on those DGF's was just too good to pass up.

I am still on the xb271hu.. hoping to replace it with an AW3821DW, only because i am old and my eye sight is going :D

    • Same market, I recently increased the cursor size.

Also using xb271hu. Going great still

    • I've got a xb271hu as well. I saw a 27GR95QE-B 27" OLED 240hz at Dreamhack and I was impressed. But not $1499 OLED impressed.

Still on my XB271hu, first purchase on my staff discount at my old workplace. 27" IPS 1440p, 165Hz overclocked and GSYNC, it just ticked all the boxes at the time.

      • Definitely :)

Still a great monitor, I just want wide screen and larger real estate.. AW3821DW hasn't been at a decent sale price for donks though, need it to be sub $1700

270 seems to be total overkill

    • Matters to gamers for input latency. That said, few games run at 270fps these days…shit optimization all over the place.

  • I think this is the normal price, although some stores had it for over $1000 (probably RRP) months back when I was searching, a few had it at $799 as a regular price. Decided to wait for OLED

lmao so 2560x1440 is WQHD now?

    and what happened to WWWWWWQHD
    I think they’re losing it

I own this monitor pretty much few months after it launched.

here is my experience with it:

270hz is smoother, but it certainly isn't "game changer" much of difference as compared to 60hz to 120hz. I still enjoy the extra smoothness, but you may be disappointed by the gap of improvement it gains.

Color representation seems to be great, mind you I am not a graphic designer, nor I own any color calibrator, it just feels good—— it does come with a delta -2 certificate saying it has been manufacturer calibrated.

HDR does make screen brighter, it feels crisper, but there aren't enough backlight zones to make it really high-dynamic —— better than not having it, I could occasionally use it to watch a movie, but I rather go to my HDR TV for that…… Typical HDR on IPS panel sort of performance, not true HDR.

65w type C is a great feature, it allows me to switch between my work laptop and my gaming PC fairly easily, it charges my laptop and display WQHD @ 270hz. It also connects the USB hub via Type C too.

HOWEVER, the USB hub does not work like a KVM switch, it does not automatically change USB source between the USB-B or the USB-C, even when the monitor input source change between DP to DP-alt (Type C). The only way to switch the USB Hub signal is to go in the monitor setting, find the USB Hub source setting, and manually set it.

The profile switching feature ignores the USB HUB setting too… It would been such a good KVM monitor except it never worked. (Gigabyte M27Q X on the other hand have KVM but no 65w charging)

in the end of the day, I have a Wireless Corsair K63 keyboard which have USB Wireless/Bluetooth to switch between 2 computers, and I have 2 mice on my desk, so I just make do of that.

    • Not OP, but from a specs perspective I'd say it's not bad. If you're only gaming in 1080p then it's a pretty good monitor for the price. The size is perfect for 1080p gaming too. Any bigger, you'd want to start looking at 1440p/4k.

I don't have it, so you might want to look at some reviews on YouTube

  • Hows this compare to the aw2723df for the same price?

  • The only reason that I'd ever purchase anything past my Dell 165 HZ monitor is if it has some decent HDR local-dimming.

240 hz doesn't even look any better than 144 hz.

    • We're starting to get to the point where we're encountering diminishing returns on higher specs. If you have a 144hz monitor, moving up to a 240hz monitor isn't going to make you any better at CoD (perhaps at the professional esports level it's going to make a tiny difference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnKGTZIAup0 but no one here plays at that level)

For me it's the same with comparing 4k to 8k. I honestly can't see a difference when looking at the demo models at JB HiFi

  • Bought this monitor years ago, one day the monitor just went white and i thought i'd try support. As it turns out the monitor has a 3 year warranty and about 3 months after the 3 year warranty had expired, the monitor kicked the bucket. Support didn't want to hear any of it and said my only option was to buy another monitor, which i did but certainly not one of their products. Will refrain from acer and their predator series if i can help it.

Still looking for a decent priced 34" high res display for gaming 144Hz. Any suggestions ?
