FAQ thanks to BG

Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Feb 28 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

Enjoy!

Damn! bought yesterday, it tracked $4.20

    • Same pain

    • +1

Bought a few hours ago for $170

  • Dammit bought when it was $163 😭

  • +2

Sigh … bought from eBay 2 weeks ago for $163

  • Is there an option to add international roaming

    • See question 7.

      • +9

Poor @bargaingrabber, all that work & nobody reads it.

  • +2

Too bad I don’t need it activated until much later in the year. Would’ve gotten it otherwise

  • Can someone confirm the $200 package is going to be discontinued in near future and it is good to stack these sims when there are offers like this?

    • +1

Needs to be activated within 30 days for the cashback

      • +1

Yes this condition in this specific deal beats the purpose: SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering. But I mean other discounted offers.

      • Shame. This is the catch. Mine doesn't need a "recharge" that soon. Although, at $170 it might still be worthwhile to get one put aside for next recharge later.

    • I wouldn’t buy more than one, expiry would be ??

      • +1

On ebay listings they say dec 2023, not sure what boost will ship when we directly order from them

  • -1

Thanks TA. My current boost expiring 4 May

    • Don't you need to be a new boost customer to renew?

      • +1

Will try FAQ number 12. Hopefully it works :)

        • Did this in Feb, worked no worries.

    • +16

Poor @BargainGrabber, went to all that trouble to write up a FAQ but nobody reads it.

      • +1

It's human nature. Half the time people can't even read the title properly.

  • my boost expires in 4 days, do I need to port to say optus then port back to boost for the cashback to work?

    • Yep I’m in the same boat. Cash rewards won’t be tracked for recharges. I was testing the network on a 28 day plan. Not sure of the cheapest way to port out and back in

    • +2

Read FAQ #12. I've done it many times

      • I understand you could recharge with the starter pack but will the cashback track? Says no to recharges

        • +1

It's not a recharge. They basically activate the new SIM with a new number, and then transfer your old number into this new SIM. The SIM is properly activated, not used as credit for your current plan

          • @pichxlonco: Wait. What happens to the new number? When you active the SIM it’s on a new number and then they migrate to your existing number. Isn’t it a waste of a new number?

            • @justanick: I think the new number gets recycled or lost. I don't think companies care too much. As far as i know, a few years ago one of the key metrics to measure the success of an operator was the new numbers activated and new number ported from other providers. I guess doing this helps their metrics?

Ummm.. I’d better stay with Woolworths mobile. 10% off saving me $20-$25 per month. 4% off every shop saving me $10-$15 per month.. a minimum of $30..

    • Woolworths mobile now $170 and wonder how you get 4% off every shop, gift card ?

      • +1

Yep. You can buy WW giftcards online at 4% off as a WW Mobile customer.

        • Student Edge and others also give the 4% off

        • Free nrma membership also includes this, along with other benefits

  • Plan isn't expiring until 19 July so I'll be able to avoid the price hike at least but hopefully there'll be increased cashback too :)

  • Mine expires Nov 2023.. buy now or wait?

    • +1

But isn't Nov towards the end of the year?

    • +2

You won't be getting the cashback, but you'll be able to secure the $170 price.

    • I've bought SIMs off eBay to last me until October 2025.

  • +1

Time to Sim churn for this , great deal tired of boost raising the price

  • Hi TA, can you please ask how much data will be given if activated after 8/5? My current plan ends on 18/05. Thank

    • You’ve got 30 days to activate for cashback. I don’t think the data amount is changing in that period.

  • -2

    Got one. Thanks TA!

Regarding FAQ#12 i.e. using this Starter kit to recharge your existing Boost Service, I will share my experience from today:

This can not be done via the Online Chat, I was advised to call ‪1258881‬ and ask the CSR to activate the new starter kit and transfer the service over to new sim. Luckily this chat was helpful later on in The first CSR I spoke to wasted a lot of my time and basically adament that their system doesn't allow that at all, there is no such option. Asked to consult his supervisor but came back with the same answer. i hung up and called them again, spoke to another CSR who started looking into my previous notes/ transactions and pointed out that I had already spoken to them like 7 minutes ago. I told him that previous agent just didn't quite understand my concern and couldn't help. Also told him that the Chat agent had advised that this was possible via phone help. The CSR then asked for a snapshot of the chat which I emailed him and then he had to discuss with his team leader and get an approval before he could action it. The call got disconnected and had to speak to the 3rd CSR and explain the whole situation, Luckily the 2nd CSR has noted comments on the file with team lead approval.

Anyway, finally managed to get it done but it is very very hard and be prepared to spend a lot of time on the phone.

    • Omg best to port out to amaysim and port back to Boost.

    • +1

I did FAQ#12 via online chat with no issue. Took 15 mins after waiting 5 mins in the online chat queue.
Old SIM was disconnected and, number transferred to new SIM immediately.

Late reply but sharing just in case anyone was wondering.

Can't buy without Aussie license or passport

  • Has anyone had much luck with the using a starter as a recharge? I got the $10 sim and need to activate that first for the Cashback. Then I wanted to use this.

    • Activate the starter as a new number. Discard it unless you've got a dual sim phone

  • I forgot. Who can I port to then churn immediately without spending $ on the churn?

    • Felix?

      • Felix no longer free.

        • +1

          Use a referral

          • @Techie4066: True that. And thanks for reminding me that I need to add my referral code to my profile.

          • +1

@Techie4066: Didn't seem to work. Everywhere in the checkout process says today you'll pay $35 (for example) and so I suspect that the 1 month free only applies to your second month.

Worse yet the bastards have designed their checkout process and privacy policy to mine your details and spam you even if you don't complete checkout.

            Screw Felix.

            • @justtoreply: That sucks. The wording of the referral offer is as follows:

Get your friends and family to try felix with a month free on us. Share your unique referral code and you'll both get $35 in your felix wallet when they sign up and activate using your code.

Which I always thought it meant your friend/family member got their first month free and you got a $35 credit. Kinda crappy if they aren't doing it that way.

              • @wavesgreen: It definitely was that way previously.

              • @wavesgreen: It's possible that checkout is misleading. But I'm not going to risk $35 when an aldi sim is $5.

                • +1

@justtoreply: I've read through all the terms and conditions on the felix website and it does say just a $35 credit, multiple times, nothing about first month free. So I guess it is what it is.

  • Bought and tracked in less than a minute! Thanks @tightarse

    • +1

      Enjoy :)

    Thank you, TA. Tracked instantly.

Oh the wisdom of holding off on a purchase on Ozbargain… waiting for the perfect timing of Cashrewards to swoop in and sweeten an already great deal.

Waiting for Klook deals next couple of weeks hopefully…

Mate my existing boost plan expires on 10th of June. Is there a way I can purchase this starter kit and activate it to get this offer $150?

        • +1

Why don't you get this deal on its last day? You have 30 days after that to activate.

          • @timhn: I can purchase this on 1st of June which will give time for it to land. When does the deal ends?

  • +1

Still waiting on the tracking from earlier today. Why do they track at different speeds?

  • Thank you, TA. Tracked instantly.
but have not received any email from boost after placing the order. Is that normal?

  • Ah thank goodness, I was about to port away from mate to coles mobile already given the recent update about incoming price hike in June. Thank you op for this well timed deal!!

im looking to buy 3 - according to this as long as i do them in separate transactions i get 3 x cashbacks?

Multiple SIM purchases need to be made as separate transactions.

  • :( no love for the $260

  • +2

I wonder why Boost cares if you activate within 30 days or not for cash back.

I get there’s an expiry on activation but why not give the cash back upon purchase?

  • I just renewed my plan with woolworths mobile… no luck on this one :(

  • -1

Can I buy two of these (one for me and my missus) and get $40 cashback in total, or would I need to do two separate payments?

  • Any deals on the 240GB plan?

  • Thanks OP + TA

Currently with Boost, and it seems people have had issues with FAQ 12. What's the quickest/easiest/cheapest way to port out and back in?

    • I am interested to know as well - What's the quickest/easiest/cheapest way to port out and back in?. Thanks

      • +1

        Aldi's $5 Starter SIM?

      • I'm going to go Kogan Sim for a few weeks and port back in, then we will end up getting the 150 meg 5g throttle

  • -2

Why?? Dodo have $10 a month with unlimited data??

  • Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"?

Has anyone who ported in from telstra had a seamless experience? I'm on Telstra prepaid, and abit hesitant because of previous issues.

  • Boo that I can't buy this and activate in August. Ah well, sure there will be another deal before then.

  • +1

When is the last day of this deal?

  • Hi all,

I have never done a cash rewards claim. I just registered and went to the site. Can someone answer the below queries?

    1) For cash rewards do I need to buy the SIM card from the site?
    2) After that I need to activate it from the site? What if I need to contact CSR to transfer the recharge?
    3) when does this deal end as my current plan expires 10th of June?
