    Rtings review 8.3/10:
    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/g3223q

Biggest neg that I can see (which probably doesn't matter to most) is 24Gbps on HDMI2.1 (DSC/compression due to limited bandwidth).

  • love mine - would have bought another but paired with a 1440p 2nd monitor instead as i dont want to fork out for a faster gpu

$755 with UNiDAYS student discount, also not the lowest seen on ozb; I should know, having paid $850 for it in Jan and watching the price plummet straight afterwards :')

A great monitor though for sure, no regrets about it aside from my price. (and some really good OLED deals in the last couple of months)

    • unidays code stacks with AUAFFILIATES5 or k12 code, making it ~730$

      • How do I get a k12 or uni day code?

      • huh, really? It doesn't seem to stack for me, otherwise that would be a pretty darn decent deal, the only discount that I've heard stacks with the edu discount are the Dell Advantage coupons and some temp promotions.

anyone after a unidays coupon is welcome to dm also

        • You should apply the unidays code first. Doesn’t work the other way

          • @tienanbich: I did, and AUAFFILIATES5 overrides it to make it $771.25

            • @toxicpuffle: It looks like only the K-12 code stacks, and they've removed the register link from the site so no way to get a new code.

              • @j-red: ahh, interesting yeah

              • @j-red: I just checked and the au affiliates 5% code can't coexist with the unidays code. however the unidays code can stack with k12 code, which gives the best deal.

the alienware 3423dwf is 1499 with these codes. pretty decent but will still wait for a sale.

                • @theadeptus1: Yeah but you can't seem to register for a new K-12 code, even with a legitimate .edu.au email address, they've removed the register link from the website. I ended up buying this without the code cause it's still a decent deal.

        • +1

Can you send me a unidays coupon? Can't seem to dm you

          • @spicorr: whoops my bad, didn't realise that was a setting lol, if anyone else tried to dm

    • Sound advice! :)

  • Once I see the lowest price, I just couldn't accept any higher price :'(

Bought this last time it went on special for $688.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/760314

    • how is it holding up? did you update the firmware for better HDR?
i almost bought it then. at that price point im pretty sure it was cheaper than some 1440p equivalents.

      • Very good monitor for the price. Updated the firmware on first use. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better screen at this pricepoint.

Ended up having to use the DisplayPort cable Dell included with it for 144Hz to detect & enable correctly in Windows. When using the old Dell DP cable, Windows would only display 60Hz as refresh option in Windows (Rtx3090Ti).

        • yeah your old cable wouldve been an older DisplayPort version with less bandwidth, not enough to support 144hz 4k
I've read the early firmwares that a lot of online reviews are based on didnt have proper HDR implementation, and HDR performance improves once it's updated

        • and of course it's an IPS panel, which makes it even better value. too many VA panels at similar price, and I try to avoid black smearing

  • +5

Love this monitor. Perfect for combined office / gaming use with its 4k res and 144hz vrr compatibility. For gaming, a custom res of 3200x1800 provides a great balance of speed and definition.

I bought this monitor in a previous deal for $702.68. Had it for over a month now.

It does 4K 144Hz ok. Text is great (got mine set to 125%). Colours are good, it comes with a factory calibration report.

Contrast is a bit of a let down. I wasn't expecting OLED quality, but the blacks are dark grey. It isn't as good as my old IPS Dell U2711 was.

You also get corner glow typical in edge-lit IPS displays. It's a trade off, better text than OLED for worse contrast.

Finally, the USB port placement is difficult to access, being under the screen, instead of on the side.

If you can't wait for micro-LED monitors, and you value text clarity over game/movie contrast (ie OLED), the Dell is a decent choice.

    • What would you recommend for OLED at the same price range, 32" 1440p?

      • +8

I don't recommend OLED for monitors. For TVs and consoles OLED is great, but small text looks crap due to OLED's pixel arrangement. Windows' Truetype can somewhat make it better, but it'll never looks as good as an IPS. Since I'm 70% text work, I could never stand it.

If you must buy a OLED, the Gigabyte AORUS FO48U is a decent choice, but around $1400, I don't think there's any OLEDs in the $700-800 range. Some dropped to ~$1,100 in early 2022 but shot back up now.

Still the WBGR subpixel layout means you'll get colour fringing around text, which would drive me nuts. Text looks like it's out of focus to me. Plus there's always the burn-in issue in the background. They say it's not an issue anymore, but they also said that with Plasma TVs, and I've got a Samsung Plasma with a 1/3 screen purple cloud on it.

The Dell is a decent choice while we all wait for miniLED (our new lord and saviour) to come out, then drop to a reasonable price. Probably at least 3 years from now.

        • if they keep pushing OLED monitors I reckon theyre gonna have to invest further in the technology to make fonts more legible. Theyre borderline painful to read on at the moment. also burn in is always a concern with static features on the desktop.

  • Can I go back to this from oled monitor?

    • +3

No. I have tried. I had this monitor. Gigabyte M28 and LG C2 42”. After using OLED as my main screen for a while, I think IPS looks substandard. Even though this Dell is way more brighter than OLED and has a DP etc I think switching from OLED to IPS is a big downgrade. I’m just waiting on smaller 4K OLED like 32” and that would be my final end game monitor. For now, C2 is the best value for money and best quality TV/ Monitor for most people.

    • Only for productivity reasoning I reckon.

  • Anyone have a unidays code they can send me please? 🧐🧐

  • Can a Surface Laptop 4 run this (4k 144hz)? Non-gaming

    no inbuilt speakers?

    • Correct, no speakers. But has an AUX port to connect to speakers.

  • +1

Got this monitor in the last deal. Use it for work and PS5. Not disappointed. Amazing colours, motion and response times.

  • +5

if you can sit back far enough, the C2 42 will be cheap again soon.

    • How far is far? Serious question. I’m waiting on a C2 deal to replace my Dell 32” 1440p. I can manage about 600-700mm.

      • i think i sit back 80-100cm and it feels good.

        takes some getting used to.

id say 60cm would be not enough.

        • Thanks for the response mate.
I've been looking on reddit, and the responses vary wildly. But consistently mention as did you 'getting used to it' & 'could never go back to a smaller monitor'
I do have the option of mounting on the wall and moving the desk away, or putting on an arm.

Recently bought this from previous deal. Did alot of research prior to deciding on this one. Great monitor, colour and brightness are stand out.

  • Keen to hear what other people think of this as a general office use screen. I want to use it for music production and while I have a S2722QC but want something with a bigger screen size.
Wondering if this might work better.

  • -1

Overall this monitor is great for daily use. However, it still has a few drawbacks. It doesn't have inbuilt speakers and you need a window computer to upgrade the firmware. I don't have a window computer so I still cannot connect this monitor to my switch…

  • Part of me wanted this because it is 4k gaming monitor but another part of me know it is not enough to justify the change from my current 27GP850-B

  • hey guys would this be good as a monitor for a Mac mini m2? Used for very light gaming, office use and basic graphic design.

    • From the rtings review link above.

The Dell G3223Q works well with recent MacBooks as VRR and HDR work, but there are some connection issues. At times, windows go back to the MacBook screen when waking up from sleep, but there are times where they stay in place. Also, sometimes it simply loses the connection after you put the MacBook to sleep, so you need to unplug and reconnect.

    • hey guys would this be good as a monitor for a Mac mini m2?

Yes you should be able to play nokia snake and other AAA Mac gaming titles just fine on your Mac mini and this monitor

  • -4

Too small for 4K. Needs to be at least 38" or higher

  • +1

If it only had a USB-C hub with charging

    • i think they couldn’t do 4k 144hz via usb c

  • Any suggestions for good 32 inch monitor for work please? TIA

    • +1

This one if you don't mind the price.

  • +1

I own two of these, one portrait and one landscape. Primarily used with an M2 Max MBP. Both run at 4K,120hz VRR at all times.

Came from a 2x 1440p setup (also one portrait and one landscape) - did notice an increase in real estate, and grew accustomed to it. Went back into the office after a while and used an older 2x 1440p setup again - this is when I realised how great the 2x 4K setup is… massive real estate bump!

I was tossing up between these displays, a single 42 inch C2, or a Samsung Q90B. After going for these, quite glad I didn’t go for an OLED - I would have driven myself mad worrying about burnin with my 10-12 hour software dev workdays.

One of the displays is hooked up to a Series X for light gaming workloads - supports 4K 144hz VRR without a problem.

    Stellar display for the price!

    • Typing from a 27" QHD monitor.. QHD at 32" would not look sharp. 4K 32" will provide better sharpness than a 27"QHD.

      • Thanks for your input.

Maybe get one 32inch 4k or 2x27inch QHD

        • Your getting slightly less pixels with 2x 1440p monitors. then one 4k. if my math is right

  • This isn't the one with the gimped HDMI 2.1 bandwidth right? That's the Gigabyte one?

  • I'm refunding mine (together with 2 other replacements) after 3 weeks of "use" (note debugging).

Seems a common problem on this monitor is that the signal will get dropped when you turn it off/on or when switching input.
I had this problem on 2 monitors (the original and the new replacement, they also sent me a refurb to test with which worked correctly, but decided to return all 3 given they wouldn't consider a partial refund to accept the refurb).

  • I have issue with yellow tint, it is quite annoying when compared to macbook pro white colour.
I have tried to set custom colour profile with gain RGB 95%. It looked okay but wonder if everyone has the same yellow tint being fixed

  • I'm assuming this monitor can accept a 4k120hz hdmi2.1 signal from pc (3080) -> receiver -> monitor? Receiver is the Denon AVR-S660H
