so was that for 2 flights, 4 flights. 6 flights?

    • Likewise I could say my track record with Jetstar: 100% on time, 100% no cancellation

I flew only once in the past 🙂

Never had the chance to fly Jetstar since then (too many other ways to pay Jetstar price but fly with better airlines, or just by redeeming business and first class flights)

I am still down for sales like this though… prepare for the worst (lounge passes, travel insurance) and hope for the best !

I've flown jetstar plenty of times but that was precovid. Never really had any problems with them.

Have they gone massively downhill recently? People have always liked to joke about Jetstar but the comments in here are really laying into them, moreso than previously.

    • Yes, they're pretty bad these days with lots of cancellations and delays. They will also nickel & dime you any chance they get.. they weigh your carry on bag at the gate and will fine you $65 if you're more than 100 grams over the 7kg limit (happened to me). I'm tempted to book the Mel to Hawaii but don't want to risk cancellation/delay

      • Haha.

If it is 100 grams of stuff, why didn't you just throw it out? Surely you have some old junk in in your carry on bag, just throw it out and buy a new thing with the $65.

      • they weigh your carry on bag at the gate and will fine you $65 if you're more than 100 grams over the 7kg limit (happened to me)

        I call BS on this.

I only travel with carry on and have been over by a few hundred grams many times without issue. And I've seen them pull others up with say 8kg and just ask them to take stuff out and wear it or put it in your pockets. If you were fined, maybe you were being a Karen…

        • Maybe I exaggerated with 100g, I was closer to 600-700g over and yes, they fined me $65 at the gate because that's how they make money. Not being a Karen. They are simply trying to recoup some money from all their losses during the covid period, and they are being ruthless about it and charging for any little extra they can

    • Yes… pre covid i didn't really have any issues either.. now just recently 2 delayed flights by a few hours

  • If you travel with luggage you get discounted baggage with Club Jetsar. Save about $15-$20 per person for each depature and return flight so it essentially cancels out the Club Jetstar price if you want to purchase flight today.

  • +3

Not worth it. Your flights are super likely to be cancelled and you will scramble to book expensive last minute replacement tickets

Not in all cases, In 2019 I was booked on JQ7 from MEL-SIN in "Business Max" - paid $757 for it which is about the same as QF Economy.
Flight got cancelled after being delayed after 3 hours, hopped onto Jetstars phone line and was re-booked with Qantas from MEL-SIN in Business. Went home, went out to a pub and returned to Jetstar with my receipt and claimed Dinner and the taxi both ways to Tullamarine. Was consequently upgraded into Qantas First from MEL-SIN at check-in.

Flawless. Although I will admit I am guessing that this was due to my airline status with QF and a "Max" bundle with JQ.

  • Saw the Club email just after 12 today and managed to get Bali flights for $280 each during the holidays in January.

Also, we flew with Jetstar to/from Bali this January (at 3 to 4 times the price) and had no issues at all.

    • +2

Bali the aussie bogan destination lol

    • January is wet season 🌧

      • That's why it's so cheap 😅

  • Dates are needed either in the heading or description. All flights are Jan/Feb/Mar 2024 with the vast majority in February 2024 and hardly any except for a few international ones in January.

Please help us make this OzBargain - not OzPressRelease!

N.B. BeatThatFlight usually does pretty good work so feel a bit wrong beating up on them.

    • In the description: "Travel dates vary, but include tickets for early February to mid-March 2024."

Heh. I scanned that so many times and couldn't find it.

        • I've been waiting for the return for free deal so scanned it with a fine tooth comb haha! Dates don't suit though :-(

    • +1

Note that all I had to go on at the time was the 7News article :P The Jetstar site now lists all the deals and dates.

    2024 dates?! I don't even know what I'm doing tomorrow…

  • Any travel insurance covers trip disruption due to cancellation by airlines?

  • deathstar… no thanks

    • what you mean?

  • Rubbish compared to last year

We got 4 returns to phuket with baggage for $1100 last year

This year it would be closer to $2000

From what I can see there are no flights this year to any decent countries if at all whereas last year's sale had lots of blocks in 2022 available

You can't trust jetstar almost a year in advance

My club jet star runs out tomorrow and I was going to renew it for thi know was going to renew it for the sale but not now

    • +1

      Rubbish compared to last year

This year it would be closer to $2000

You're getting $500 return to Thailand and you're still complaining? You must be fun at parties…

      • -1

Parties are overrated…We have to get to sydney from here..so it turns out to be as cheap to go via a major airline

My point was its almost 50% more than last year..there are no flights until 2024 and you cannot trust jetstar that far ahead…therefore this is a non bargain compared to other bogof sales they have had

        Ok?

  • Bloody hell, everything in Briz/GC is 2024. There could be Covid-23 by then.

Oh well with interest rates bumping up, hopefully they'll need to have another sale to fill flights.

  • No where near as good as other years. You could at least get ool or mcy in the Jan school holidays for around $65 one way but not this time around. Only half decent deal is to HNL next Feb thats if theres any seats left.

  • I can't see any $0 return fares at all…. do you have to have an active club jetstar sub in order to see what dates are available?

    • maybe read?

      • -1

I'm obviously aware of the early access, but ordinarily you can still see the "price with club jetstar" and then just sub as part of the ticket booking.

        • I am seeing the same. Could see the $0 return fares ealier in the day, but no longer. Perhaps it's like a pre-sale type deal, and they're holding some over for general public allocation.
I did notice none of the Japan fares from Gold Coast or Brisbane (yes i know they don't fly direct from there) are direct flights, all through Cairns. I dare say they'll do another Japan specific sale later in the year.

          • +1

@brendo13: I was exactly the same with the Gold Coast to Narita flights. Saw the return fare, called the wife to get her blessing and then they were gone. Glad I wasn't the only one who couldn't see them anymore, fingers crossed for later in the year.

            • +1

@ShirokaZe: Ok..so maybe they did all sell out. I tried just now, after midnight, no changes.

    • I can't see any $0 return fares at all…. do you have to have an active club jetstar sub in order to see what dates are available?

I jumped on as soon as I got the email and there were heaps showing then, but within a few hours they all disappeared. I imagine they only had a couple of seats on each leg and they all got snapped up.

  • is it me or does it seem a bit exxy for jetstar? Sydney to Melbourne 119 return, used to be around 60-70 one way anyways?

  • Lol both Jetstar and qantas get a hammering here.

I am flying SYD<->Perth with qantas and Perth<->Bali with Jetstar. So, perhaps I’m tempting fate.

So far 1/4 flights nothing bad to report.

I thought Q’s inflight movies selection were excellent. However, food barely passable. Although got a complimentary lashes.

    • Jetstar Perth to Bali took 3.5hrs and left on time.
I had the exit aisle and no food. Brought on my own drink.

      2 more to go.

      • But how can that be? According to all the comments here your flight should have been cancelled, if you were lucky you might have been offered a replacement flight three months from now so you would have been forced to spend 10x more to buy a replacement flight on a different airline.

  • What a surprise, very limited seats to Hawaii from Sydney. A waste of a deal with limited availability.

Never had any issues that weren't easipy fixed by Jetstar. Cant say I have had any major issues with them.

    • What a surprise, very limited seats to Hawaii from Sydney. A waste of a deal with limited availability.

I found a deal for $341 return, but you'd have to pay me to go to Hawaii. Up there as one of the most overrated places to visit anywhere…

      • Certainly agree with overpriced accomodation in Hawaii.

        Ridiculous.

I had what I though was Brisbane<>Tokyo flights sorted for Feb 2024 for about $750~ or so return with basic fare. Got through to final payment step at cart. Clicked pay only to get a message stating fare no longer available. Meanwhile, friend was doing the same using his account etc, at same time, and his purchase went through. Refresh page, and now return flight was $350ish more. Contact mate, let him know whats going on. Look to see if other options, and not 5 minutes later, that return $350 flight is gone and it is now ~$450. Thank you jetstar.

    • Thank you jetstar.

Thank your mate. There are only limited seats with any sale and it's first in best dressed, so he likely got your seats.
Also worth knowing is that the website has some delay to it as the backend booking system publishes info to it, so a few minutes can make the difference between getting it and missing out.

      • I get the limited seat piece. What I don't understand is how they cannot reserve the seat for 1 minute - or give you some countdown similar to what any high volume ticketmaster style website does.

        • What I don't understand is how they cannot reserve the seat for 1 minute - or give you some countdown similar to what any high volume ticketmaster style website does.

Being low cost they minimise features to keep costs low. Ticketmaster/Ticketek are a duopoly so can do what they like, then force you to pay 'handling fees' for the privilege.

  • Not worth it, not flying Jetstar until they improve.

    • They probably will soon. They are taking delivery of new planes.

  • Booked GC to Wellington return for 259$ to justify my Club Jetstar membership.

  • Anyone know how to see the free return fares? Is it just sorta just guess and check?

    • If you tried looking at the specified dates for free return but can't see any, then they are mostly likely sold out. Jetstar limits how many seats are available for this offer, so check back tomorrow and they might open some more seats.

      • Yeah I'll have a look at midnight. Hopefully something comes up 🤷

These are absolutely terrible pricing. Sydney -> Perth for $279 with free return fare? I have flow this route plenty of times and I have never paid more than $220 return fare. Melb (Tulla) is $119, you can easily snag a return fare to Melb under $100 and same Adelaide for $140, like really? Few months ago, Jetstar had Phuket, Vietnam sale for less than $400.

They have absolutely lost their mind.

    • -1

They have absolutely lost their mind.
Few months ago, Jetstar had Phuket, Vietnam sale for less than $400.

It was ~$389 and now it is $439 and it is for a different travel period.

It's still the cheapest provider, yes? I doubt you can link to any other cheaper fares from another airline.

    • How the hell are you getting sub $220 return SYD > PER??

      • -1

        Maybe red-eye, maybe delusional.

I paid $353 return SYD-Perth day flights with Qantas and thought that was a killer price.

        • You can definitely get it if you are flexible with travel dates. Jetstar has released some amazing fares post covid too. And maybe also last year, when they release $27 one way flight to Melb from Sydney at the time of India - Pakistan T20 WC game. If you think that pricing is good, go ahead.

  • +1

The travel period for this sale is really small. I was only able to fit in and book two trips.

  • +2

Pre Covid I averaged 5-7 domestic and 1-2 international trips, mostly flying on Jetstar. On international flights (Bali, Japan, Hawaii, NZ) I never got any any issues, on domestic ones they always rebooked me to a Qantas flight if mine got cancelled and the next available wasn't within an hour or so. I still fly with Jetstar if I have to, but I realised that Rex offer better value to the capital cities, so these days I mostly fly with them.

Jetstar certainly have a lot of issues, but I could've never travelled for $300 return to Japan, NZ, Bali or Hawaii if it wasn't with Jetstar. Just for comparison, Qantas wanted to charge 3.5k for a direct BNE - SF trip and 4.5k for a SYD - JBO flights.

  • got sydney-bali return for 2 weeks for feb 2024 under $400. fingers crossed there will be no delay nor cancellation.
