Who Makes The Best Chinos?

Hey all,

I am wondering who makes the best Chinos?

I see so many ads on Instagram these days, for stretch Chinos and better fits. I'm not sure if they're good, but the fit look better on the models.
Bottom Labs etc
Most are $80-$120, which is alot more than H&M, Zara, Connor etc

Just thinking of buying a new pair before I head to Europe, I'll be in France and Italy. I'll miss the sales in July tho, no idea on prices over in Europe.

Thanks

Thanks I will give these a go. Been wearing the kmart ones on and off for last few weeks but the quality is a bit soso. Price is right though.

I agree with this. I've been wearing them for a couple of years. Really comfy.

    Try Target. Was pleasantly surprised.

I've still got some going strong from this deal.

    • I got a couple from target in the deal above but I get a really annoying like flapping noise as the pant thighs rub together. It's like the material is harder and not stretchy, every step I take makes the sound. I do squat so have bigger legs but no other chino I have bought does this. I do but the 5% elastine ones for the stretch though usually.
The first fail point in all my chinos is a hole from rubbing on the thighs

    • The limestone colour is $8.

  • I like my gstar and industrie chinos

  • MrSimple are pretty good. Haven’t bought since the go,d coast store closed but they have other stores and online.

  • NGL, Kmart's are pretty damn good and cheap as well.

Yeah can’t argue with price and being able to see it/buy it in person. I am a big fan of Kmart basics - maybe it’s my old age but I am over being a walking billboard , less branding better.

      thanks for not lying

For work? Uniqlo with their free hemming service, cheapest most professional looking chino IMO.

For casual? Really depends as budgets/styles vary widely here. Dickies off Amazon aren't a bad bet for the price.

What kind of fit are you after (skinny, tapered, relaxed, wide leg) and what's your build like?

    • +2

+1 for Uniqlo's free hemming service. I own several colours, the ones that I use the most (beige, black, navy) I need to replace after 2-3 years which I think is quite reasonable

      • How often do you wear them per week? And his often do you wash them?

I have some chinos about 10 years old that are holding up well, others that are younger that are fraying around the bottom of the legs.

I find my chinos wearing a bit more on the seat, with small white patches. Not sure if the chinos, my seat or bum are to blame.

    The Deftones

    while expensive, lululemon

    • +1 to this. Free hemming service and not that expensive ($120-130 per pair)

    • They make Chinos? I've looked at their stuff in store, it all seemed to be polyester/lycra mixes.

    • Thanks for the tip, they look good and are a trusted brand
I'm here to see if anyone has tried bottomslab or equivalent (bet they all come out of the same factory)
I run hot and my wife hates that I'm always wearing shorts, so I'm looking for a very light trouser.
I already have a pair of linen country road, but that's not an everyday look (but they are a lovely design)

  • Gazman when on special at Myer (which is often).

  • I rate Kathamandu travel pants but my preferred fabric/style is no longer available. My previous go-to was Kuhl REVOLVR™

  • H&M chinos are great for price=quality

  • Used to rate country road, lasted a few years and were good for long legs
In the market for chinos as well after finally ripping my last remaining CR pair (damn you Easter chocolate).

Didn’t mind French connection, not sold on marcs

    • The CR travel chinos (not their standard ones) are brilliant!

  • I got some Jack Jones ones from Myer and I gotta say they are nice to wear.

    Sportscraft

    • Sportscraft longevity is 50/50, some pants last a long time some don't, all their shirts however last a long time, I am still wearing some after 4-5 years and they look great.

  • China.

  • Do any suit men with large legs? Muscular legs, but slim fit?

Classic chino, seem pretty wide at the bottom instead of a taper.

    • I have been tempted by legend London. Matt does fitness goes on about them ALL the time saying it's perfect for bigger legs but I'm a scruge

      Suggested search: muscle fit trousers

      • Target jeans I found are super flexible.

Their chinos are probably good, $40 tho. I spose it's still cheap, it'd be better at $30 lol

        • I travel (leisure) with only the clothes I'm wearing, so need fabrics I can wash and dry in my hotel room

  • Industrie have always been the go to for me. Don’t rate the Peter Jackson ones.

  • I'm finding the Lee ones (available from Amazon) very good.

  • Dickies but you'll have to get the US ones. USD$40 ten years ago and still going strong.

I use a tailormade service for my shirts, pants etc as my body build isn't well suited to off the rack.
Good quality, reasonably priced, delivered within 2 weeks, and they do free adjustments if needed. Based in Sri Lanka.
    https://www.tailorstore.com.au/all-pants/chinos

You can use their measurement app, but I double check with tape measure and change measurements where needed.

  • Bonobos

  • DISCLAIMER - I'm still getting them for free due to a Man of Many competition but I get them from M.J. Bale and they're very comfortable, hold their colours well and are quite hardy (normal cycle wash).

  • +1

I can say Target make good Chinos, very good quality.

What else I can say is, the T-shirts are disappointing. I paid $15 for the higher quality cotton and the collars are all out of shape after 1 wash.

UNIQLO, and Tarocash t-shirts, non-issue after 100 washes.

It's better to pay $20 for a t-shirt which actually lasts.

  • Go heavy duty quality that will last, like the French workwear brand Vetra.

  • I’ve had good experiences with Jack & Jones and ASOS branded chinos for office work. They both have the fit and stretch that I like.

For reference, I prefer slightly slimmer fitting pants, and if I’m wearing jeans I like Levi’s 511’s.

I’ve liked the look of some of the Tommy Hilfiger chinos I’ve seen in Myer but haven’t tried any on yet. MJ Bale make some good shirts as well so I’d definitely give them a go for pants too.
