[VIC] Sign up and Receive $100 Credit @ Energy Locals

151

Energy Locals is currently offering a $100 signup bonus to new VIC customers for their Online Member plan.
The offer was to expire in March, but the T&C also states that "This promotion may be extended or finalised at the discretion of Energy Locals, regardless of the scheduled end date of March 31st, 2023". All communications I received so far confirm the $100 bonus as advertised during the subscription process.
If you're looking to switch, consider joining before they remove this promo.

It seems to stack with a currently active $50 referral for the referrer and referee campaign, so according to the T&C, it looks like a neat $150 discount from your electricity costs.
Request a referral code below this post and insert it during the signup process (instructions image here) for increased pecuniary pleasure.

Note: SA and NSW customers have their membership cost of $14.99/month waived for the first 6 months. Not as good, but should still be stackable with the referral bonus for a $140 discount total.

And if you haven't already, consider the current $250 Power Saving Bonus for Victorians

  • Is connection fees applicable to move from other providers?

    • My previous experience at the present address (switched from Origin to EnergyAustralia) is that no fees are charged when the retailer is changed but the power is kept on.
The connection and disconnection fees are charged by the distributor (not the retailer) when moving out of one address and into another.
I think I have not even been charged a Meter reading fee to close the previous account, but unsure if this is the norm.
Happy to report how it goes for me in relating to these charges once the switch is completed, but unsure how long it might take.

  • Hopeless company and worst customer service. I am with them not by choice. Having a Tesla battery and being part of the Virtual Tesla power plant, I have to choose Energy Locals in SA. Every invoice is incorrect and look at the end reads of last month and start reads of the new months. The new start reads are always before the end reads of last month. I refused several times to pay the invoice until they corrected it. Please do not agree to take it out of your bank account automatically.

    • Interesting.

From the opposite perspective, I only use them for my electricity, nothing to do with a Tesla, but I’ve never had any issue with them, and whenever I’ve been in contact with them about general questions, they’ve always been extremely prompt and helpful.

      • I also use them only for electricity with our 14KW Tesla battery connected to the house. Nothing to do with a Tesla car. - I wish I could say that, but unfortunately, it’s the total opposite. I wait now for 4 weeks to get my last invoice fixed and had to remind them several times. Still no update or outcome. Suddenly after stating that we don’t pay any invoices until it is fixed, seems they have woken up.

      • My experience with the company is quite good. Customer rep. are quite helpful and fast. I had issue with bill payment by credit card and they fixed it right away.

  • They don’t know what they are doing. I had an incorrect invoice, and after weeks I asked them and said that I would be happy to pay the invoice if it was correct. They apologised and said it’s still an investigation. The next day I received a reminder to pay the bill with notice that they gonna disconnect. After writing back and calling the ombudsman, they apologised again. They seem not to work as a team. From my experience if there is a retailer with the same price don’t choose Energy Locals. I am only with them because we have no other choice within the Tesla Virtual Power plant with our Tesla battery.

  • How long do we have to stay to get this $100 or the $50 referral?

    • From Online-Member-100-Sign-up-bonus-TCs

If you are eligible for the Promotion, the $100 Sign up bonus will be applied as a credit to your account within 10
business days after successful transfer or connection (move in) to Energy Locals and will appear on your first bill.
The sign up bonus cannot be exchanged for cash, transferred to another account or refunded.

      • Yeah, I've got both the $100 credit and a referral credited within the first bill. With them from the time I posted this and have yet to pay a bill (but we also have solar+storage+high-efficient-everything, so average low power consumption).

        • Thanks. So technically nothing prevent us to switch again after that?

          • @hanofee: Not according to the plan when I signed. It seems that Energy Locals does not offer plans (at least in VIC) with lock-in or exit fees.
I advise you to refer to the specific plan conditions anyway.

The plan I signed to did not offer any lock-in terms and the one I have found now from Energy Locals is the same: https://ibb.co/4SpDgd2
In August they will update their tariffs for VIC, so if it does not compete anymore I will switch, but otherwise, it has been pretty good so far.

            • @stampella: Hey Stampella, the tariff I can see on the Vic comparison site differs to the one on their website. Do i need to call them up to quote the offer ID from the vic energy comparison site to obtain the rates im seeing?

              • @No Child Support: Interesting, yes. Definitely if you can find a better one through Vic energy compare do try and call them. When I signed in originally all aligned with the tariff displayed on energy compare. If on energy compare my understanding is that is an active tariff so they should be able to offer that. Do mention the $100 signup bonus and $50 referrer code in the call if they signup directly through call to make sure you don't miss those.

            • @stampella: Do they bill monthly? May I know after we switch, when will we get our first bill?

              • @hanofee: I was billed monthly. You should be able to log in in your account and check your current consumption and the date they started supplying you

                • @stampella: Thanks, I haven’t switched, just wondering how long till we get the bonus :)

                  • @hanofee: Do note that I switched out about two weeks ago to OVO due to their EV plan. But I doubt anything changed in the meantime. In the first month I was credited $150.

  • Anyone actually still with them and found their rate is ok after the increase on 1st Aug?

    • We received our first invoice for September for 20 days and it was $9.50. Using the $50 referral credit we are still $40 in credit. So much better than AGL in QLD. Our supply charge is 82c a day.
Location QLD with 6.6kW PV + 5kW Inverter

Hi mate- I’m switching in a few days. Have you got a referral code? I don’t wanna risk an expired one in the randomiser

        • Yep. Can you send me a message. Don't want to throw it up here in case it breaks rules.
          Cheers

  • Just been told this sign up bonus rate is now $150 and still stacks with referral (applied after six months with the company)

Can’t find documentation of this anywhere since hanging up though

    Edit: found it

A $150 loyalty credit will be applied to your account after completing six-months of supply with us. Terms and conditions apply: https://energylocals.com.au/app/uploads/2023/11/VIC-Online-M…
