Boozebud Goes into Administration

Just seen the news that these guys have closed up.

Been awhile since I made an order with these guys as I was using an Amex deal.

But they did always have some good deals via their eBay store.

i guess they wish for lockdowns to last a bit longer so they can keep making $$$

Damn looks like they've already pulled the majority of their stock off eBay.

  • they were too expensive to start with

Not when they had promos in their eBay store. You could quite often nab a bargain via eBay.

This is a good reminder for me to go pick up my order from the last eBay promo before it gets sent back 😂

  • Hadn't used them in years since this deal

Don't suppose we'll see cheap beer like this again.

  • Whats the best deal
    Now?

How long's a piece of string?

      • I have been using coles online deals right now cause I couldn’t get any ebay boozebud deals in the past. Are there any other good deals?

        • I use coles online as well, by far the best way to go. Pretty much every consistently great deal is dead, I just go with the odd ozbargain special and dan murphys + 5% giftcards.

Agreed. When they were about to sell to whoever the founders sold to about 4 years ago they had crazy discounts that stacked with new user bonuses. Everyone in my house registered an account or two.
More recently the prices were more sane, but its hard to see how you can make a sustainable business selling grog at Dan Murphy's prices when you have to deliver it, and trade in a fraction of the volume.

      • How did everyone in your house have accounts ?
Did they all use different delivery addresses?

Use them once for the first time to get quite cheap Bombay Sapphire gin on eBay.
went to use them again and tried to stack discounts and new user bonuses but it wouldn’t let me.
used different email, credit card and mobile number. Rang them up to ask why they said that they already delivered to this address, and was not entitled to any discount.
Never tried to use them again.

        • When the first owners were building the business, they didn’t care, just wanted to show explosive growth in user numbers.
The people they sold it to tried to make it a profitable business, so put in restrictions - much less fun.

  • Thanks for my cheap JW Blue.

  • Sad news. I don't drink enough to be able to meet their free shipping but they definitely had a great range of craft beers. RIP.

It is a bit sad. As a scotch drinker they were a good source of stuff you wouldn't always find at First Choice, bws etc with compeitive prices.

I will be sure to pour out a fireball shot in remembrance of the good times.

On the bright side, it leaves space in the market for a new entrant to open with generous sign up promotions.

  • Always found them expensive and horrid website. If you’re gonna have an online only business at least make the website good. It always just have me cringe vibes with the layout and the way promo codes did t work and it was just annoying.

    No great loss imo.

  • When they stopped delivering alcohol nationwide years ago that was the end.

  • As a regional person I found them very good. I managed to try quite a number of new beers and they had a good array of cider I couldn't get locally.

Oh no, had a $100 unused gift card for Boozebud!

    • Same here 😭

  • RIP….they had great customer service crew were were really eager to please… i got a bunch of truly great deals out of them before they changed ownership and lost the plot.

  • Looks like they're back!

    Website is back too

BoozeBud has been bought by fellow online alcohol retailers Hairydog Group, following the former going into voluntary administration at the start of this month. Hairydog's head of e-commerce, Ryan Agar, said in a media statement that the acquisition presents an opportunity to maximise the potential of both businesses by bringing together BoozeBud's e-commerce infrastructure with Hairydog's team.

"Through this acquisition, we're not just expanding our business footprint, we're strategically aligning the strengths of BoozeBud's advanced e-commerce capabilities with Hairydog's proven retail expertise," Ryan said in the statement.

Hairydog is an Australian-owned business that launched during the early days of the COVID pandemic as a means to offer hospitality businesses the chance to sell their stock. Today it offers same-day delivery in both Melbourne and Sydney and ships alcohol across the country.

    • Just got an email with specials and was confused for a minute. This explains it!

Probably wishful thinking that they'll get back on ebay and be part of the 20/22% sale coming up like the old days though

    • I too got the email.

Tried to make an order and pay with an unused shopback gift voucher I bought in November - didn't work.

Left a message - no reply. I previously sent 2 emails to the administrators - no reply.

I note the shopback app states I may have used the voucher the day after administration.

      Doesn't look encouraging

  • Received an email from boozebud inquiring about my voucher. Seems they are willing to honour previous vouchers.
