Prices of Non Essential Goods Going down. Are You Seeing What I'm Seeing?

I keep an eye on Facebook marketplace for motorcycles, boat/jet ski ads. Compared 1-2 years before I see they are going for 25-35% cheaper in price. So many near new motorcycles at great prices which would disappear in days are still there even after months. Same story with boats and jet skis. And even cars! I'm seeing Mazda 3s getting advertised for decent prices (10-15% drop). Are you observing what I'm observing? Recession near?!

OP what drugs are you on?
I just searched FBM Sydney for Mazda 3 and the prices are still INSANE !!!

Reckon OP is selling a Mazda 3?

    • I think OP talking about AMG not Mazda 3

    • OP is from Adelaide. I saw a 2016 Mazda 3 Neo, 60KM for $15K in Adelaide market place! Compared to what's been happening in the last year this is a great price.

      • what's wrong wth it?

No recession. Just a slow down in the economy. Sorry OP no smoking gun

    • Agree.

Maybe some people are off loading barely used toys like motorbikes and jetskis to put towards their larger mortgage repayments. Water craft are typically cheaper going into the colder months as well.

    • Surelyyyyyy there has to be more to it than this logical explanation

        Interest rates were low

Ohhhh look how much money we have in our redraw, let's buy a [insert expensive unnecessary item here]

Times are tough now for the many who over extended on their mortgage.

Geezus Michael, you never use that bloody [insert expensive unnecessary item here], get rid of the damn thing. This mortgage is killing us and I'm getting my hair and nails done next week…..

    • Yeah i know a couple young tradies who went and bought flash houses and top 4x4s a year or 2 ago that are now downspecing the 4x4 and getting rid of the boat and caravan as things have gotten tighter.

No recession/depression until GPU's become affordable again. It's the classic universal indicator.

    • +9

OP said non-essential. GPU's are up there with food and shelter.

Expensive toys people bought in lockdown during demand (and when they were saving money on travel, entertainment etc) are now being sold off, at a time of less demand (inflation, back to work, white elephant etc).

Computer parts prices have dropped considerably, and items are also now in stock.

    • Yup, NVMe ssd's are looking tasty. Nearly got that $79 deal from yesterday but don't quite need it just yet.

      Steak on the other hand…….

  • KFC has gone up so no

Yes seeing same. More people trying to offload and liquidate. Will only see more.

Smart people liquidated over the last year or so. Not so smart people will wait until the last minute 🙄 There will be bargains to be had.

    • You mean the guy down the road with a $1m mortgage that just got bumed up 3% has to sell his $75k audi Q5? bugger.

  • :D

sometimes you get a bargain, sometimes its still too much

Compared 1-2 years before I see they are going for 25-35% cheaper in price

so they're back down to the price they were a year ago? is that what you're saying?

TBH when you're paying $15k for a 20 year old car that has 250,000km on it, it's too high.

    • +1

Negged by someone who paid $15k for a 20 year old car…

  • If you are solely referring to marketplace, it's probably more a case of people desperate for cash and .more completion amongst sellers to move things. Most people base prices on what other list the same or similar item for. Used car market could be due to an increase on New car supply in recent months due to docks now clearing shipments.

  • Its a slowdown dont think we will go into a recession.

  • +1

You remember how 12 months ago there was no chance of inflation or interest rate rises?
Now apparently there is little chance of recession, etc.
Never say "never", except if "this time it's different". 😂

  • motorcycles, boat/jet ski ads

May = almost winter. Nothing new.

  • I still see second hand Landcruiser 300 selling above their RRP

  • dirt bikes are still crazy, although not as bad

e.g you only save $2k buying a 2018 model compared to new

    • That's interesting. Maybe dirt bike enthusiasts are probably bit affluent than the maybe the boat guys or MT07 people.
