Kogan SmarterHome 2kW Glass Panel Heater (Black) $99.99 + Delivery ($0 with First) @ Kogan

80

I've been looking for a smart heater for the van and this one has come down in price quite a bit, so I finally ordered it today. This is not the most efficient heating option (reverse cycle) and doesn't include a fan so keep that in mind, but for my purposes, it's perfect.

This 2kW black model is now cheaper than this 1.5kW version at $109. It's best for small rooms, it's not going to heat your whole house, but if you want something small to get you through the winter, it looks like a good option to me.

The 2.4kW black white version is also on sale for $159 $129 and has an ip24 rating, It's not as good of a deal in my opinion, but making it a good deal that could be useful to some.

Useful information from Kogan:

  • I'm in the market for something to heat our nursery. Currently it's at 16 degrees… Seems a bit cold for a baby. I want a smart heater too, but I think a fan to circulate the heat too.

Yeah, depending on the size of the room, this may or may not work… For what it's worth, in my setup, I'll have a smart fan mounted nearby as well to help move the air when needed.

Might be a bit extreme but for the past 2 weeks I've been running a dyson hot + Cool purifier fan.

It's great because I use it as a fan as well as to heat.

We're unable to install a split system but this fan has kept the room at a solid 23 degrees all day easily.

$599 at jb / Harvey Norman / the good guys

      • Did using all day/night significantly increase your electricity bill?

        • I haven't monitored it. And yes it will consume a significant amount of power but for a nursery with a 3 month old it's worth every cent.

I'll see if I can find a plug in power meter and motor it.

        • The effect on your bill is entirely dependent on the insulation in the room.

If you have draughty windows and it's 5c outside, then it'll pump at full power most of the night. You could easily chew through $10 in a single night.

If you have a well insulated room and it's 15c outside, then it'll barely need to do anything.

This is shit. Had one, and sold it a year later cos it didn't heat up even small rooms very well.

    Save your money.

  • Will it heat a small bathroom in 10 mins?

    • I hope so… And I don't see why not. I don't have one yet, but it's a pretty general concept and 2kW should definitely do the job

It's good. It keeps my 3x2.5 room constant temp in Tassie 24x7. You can set temp unlike other heaters which just have a dial and get too hot or not hot enough.

    • Do you have the 2000 or the 2400?

      • +1

I have the 2000 and 1500 versions one in each bedroom. I prefer 1500 as the 2000 is glass and is heavier as they are mounted. Both function well and I can track temp via app as I have a bird in one of the rooms.

I have 1 in each of my kids rooms. It's handy to be able to start the heater on 23 deg before they go to bed to warm the room so they don't feel cold when they change into pjs etc. And then drop down to 21deg and low setting from my phone a couple of hours after they have gone to sleep. Otherwise the kids get too hot at night wrapped up in blankets (once they have been cocooned in their body heat). Can also schedule it all in with the app.

If they get up early on the weekend and I.jear cartoons on, i can check if they've turned the heater off from my bed and turn it off if needed from the app. Also can control from google hub with voice. I use the Smart Life app instead of the kogan one as I can have other brands (if compatible) on the app so all in one place (eg I have a larger Goldair branded wifi heater in the master bedroom on the same app, and a moebot, tuya temp/humity sensors, kogan ceiling lights).

No issues at all with them after 2 years. Connecting to wifi can be a bit fiddly. Setting the router to 2.4GHz only temporarily helps.

23c is crazily hot for sleep 🤷🏼‍♂️

If your room is at 15c and you're getting cold in bed then it means your quilt cover isn't thick enough, it doesn't mean the room needs more heating…

      • That's ok you can set your thermostat to whatever you want. 23 deg as said is for warming the room and turn it down later. I'm happy for the kids to get out of the shower and get changed in warm room. I wouldn't set the thermostate to 15 deg in summer or winter, that's too cold for me.

  • How do these compare to the Viomi Smart Heater Pro 2?

Noticed the white 2.4kw is $129. Noticed it has an ip24 rating, means we can use outdoor if not raining? Would be heavy to move around tho. Anyone has first hand experience? Thanks

    • Nice find, I'll add this to the listing. If you're planning to take it in and out, there's no reason you couldn't use any heater outside if it's not raining. IP24 will ideally "Protection against water splashing from any direction" so I guess it would make a difference in a wet situation, where it's not raining.
