  • This or concept 2 for build quality & longevity

  • +1

Given that this is Flywheel + Resistance, and only rated to 115kg, I would question the longevity?
I just bought a Concept 2 @ Rebel via price match(to Concepts web page) and $1k of 20% discounted gift cards frpm Qantas Store. Cost me $650 cash(they include delivery of $55 from Concept) plus points which I wasn't using anyway.
The Concept 2 was easy to put together(easier than my previous Xebex Air Rower which broke after 3 years) and seems like great quality. Given the simplicity of these machines, they probably should only cost $1k at the most, but your paying for the name. The greatest advantage is the ability to compare your data with other rowers in the world and official world records.

    • When was this? They have increased a lot since COVID. I was keen and that’s a great price

      Well done

The Factory website has them for $1595 + $55 delivery.
Rebel price matched @ $1650 and I picked it up. I had gotten the gift cards looking to buy an exercise bike but decided to get back into rowing instead. Qantas was having a 20% off points so 5x$200 cards cost me 159,800 points which valued the points @ about the same as using them for hotels/car hire (~.6 cents).

  • Concept 2 are the best and bombproof. Still have a C been using for 20 yrs!

  • For the fitness gurus, for belly fat and overall cardio, core and or body workout out is a rower better or an exercise bike?

    • I would say rower would give more intense workout, but exercise bike would be more sustainable workout. Personally I would get an assault bike/rogue echo and then a rower.

    • If you want to lose fat fix your diet. Then do activities that you enjoy most. Ie bike or running etc. Don't just row because someone tells you its the best etc.

Bonus tip. Resistance training is better for keeping fat off

    • The bike will only exercise from the glutes down. The rower will exercise almost everything.
THE important factor with rowing is to concentrate on technique first. Many people go hell for leather and get injured early and give up. The beauty of an air rower, like the Concept 2, is that YOU control the type of workout. Fast strokes per min gets the cardio and toning done. Long slower spm, can build greater strength - remembering to always concentrate on technique. Also, with the Concept 2, if you decide rowing is not for you, they are easy to sell on the 2nd hand market with minimal loss - can't say that with an exercise bike.
If your knees are an issue, like me, repetitive spinning on a bike can cause knee issues. I bought a recumbent bike to save pressure on my butt(weight issues) and found that you basically have to exercise for over an hour to get any benefit which was making my knees sore due to rotation. Whilst I did lose a lot of weight(also helped by buying a big dog that needs @least 5klm a day walking) and have calves like a pro cyclist, my upper body looks like a retired wrestler… so I'm back to rowing to help the upper body a bit. Beauty is that it only takes 45min(5x1000m with rests and 2x500m + warm down) so I'm saving 1/2 hour that I used to spend on the bike but burning similar calories @ a higher heart rate.
