  • Kogan claim "With up to 70MB/s read and 50MB/s write" for those interested. Which is a solid speed. It'd be nice to have independent confirmation.

    • +1

I bought the 64GB USB3 stick they had previously, which was 70MB/s read and 30MB/s write. I can verify that I achieved slightly over the 30MB/s write speed. Didn't check the read speed, but it was certainly very fast.

Kogan seem to publish reputable specs. I'd probably trust them on it.

  • I think I got the old one (looks to be longer, and with no red on it), and am getting 39.25MB/s write, and 67.11MB/s read (using USBDeview x64 - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html).

Should hopefully not make any difference that it's formatted as exFAT rather than NTFS.

Very happy for the price :)

  • Do all USB 3.0 devices give speeds faster than the maximum capable 2.0 speed (480Mbps or 60MB/s)?

My 1TB WD Passport USB 3.0 plugged into a USB 3.0 port is giving me READ speeds (copying from Passport to local HDD) of 33MB/s, which is far less than the 60MB/s that USB 2.0 is capable of. Making me wonder what is the point of making it USB 3.0 in the first place? Is this normal?

    • Prob also goto do with what device you have. I have my XT Rage USB 2.0 that goes faster than many USB 3.0 devices due to it's 'quad' technology…

    • No, USB3.0 aren't always faster than the maximum capable of USB2.0.

However, USB2.0 is only capable of a max of about 33MB/s in real world usage and the 1TB WD Passport USB3.0 is generally said to get 70MB/s+, my guess is that your HDD is operating at USB2.0 speeds.

    • My WD Passport is the same. I believe it is capable of transferring up to the max USB3 speeds but the internal hardware limits it to 33MB/s as it still has spinning disks. I have reached over 90MB/s using an external caddy and SSD. I don't see how this stick would not reach the 70MB/s mark.
