  • Is it coming from Broken Hill, NSW? The website is hard to navigate on a mobile.

Nothing grows in broken Hill apart from the crime rate

      • I love Broken Hill but funny that they obviously just use the name.

  • Is the coffee grown in Australia or just using Australian names to push imported coffee?
I can't see any country of origin information on the site.

      lol - different..
      (from the website)

Nuddy is different. We focus on quality and freshness, always keeping the environment on our minds. From Sydney, Nuddy sources and roasts coffee from all over the world. High-quality coffees that have been specifically roasted for a unique, fresh and flavourful experience within homes and workplaces.

    • I didn't even realise there was a local coffee market

      • There is and it is expensive, or at least was last time I looked.

        • Yeah I get all of my coffee from Mareeba in Far North Queensland.
About $40ish for a 1 kilo bag of caramel nut flavoured coffee beans although they have normal unflavoured coffee beans and other flavours as well.
I get 4kg at a time and with postage comes to about $180 ish I think.
Lasts me for about 6 months or so and that is having about 5 or 6 cups a day.
It is a boutique kind of place so I am not sure they are selling hundreds of thousands of kilos a year (or maybe they are) but it is certainly not the only place that sells Australian grown coffee.
There are quite a few in Queensland and some around the North Coast of NSW.
It doesn't come from Brazil so probably doesn't have the cool factor that many coffee drinkers seem to crave but to me it is some of the best coffee I have had in my life.

          • @sircable: That price is actually pretty good, last time I looked the cheapest I could find was about $80 per kg delivered, but I only looked at ordering 1 or 2 kg.

@mapax: I just order 4kg at a time because that is the max and makes the postage a bit cheaper per 1 kg bag.
I know I will use it and it will (and does) last in the sealed foil bags so all good.
Another bonus is that when I grind it fresh every morning, my house smells like an amazing cafe…
              LOL.

              I just checked (https://www.mareebacoffee.com.au/caramel-nut-145) and to buy a 1kg bag is $42.
I do 2 times the 2x1 kg online special for $79.
It recently went up, it was 2 for $66 not that long ago.

              • @sircable: Actually it looks like all of the flavours are available in 2 x 1kg online special including non flavoured.
Can't say I have ever looked at the other flavours before but there are a few that sound nice!
I started buying here because they were Australian grown coffee beans and I was already addicted to Caramel Nut coffee from another place (forgot the name) that was not Australian grown coffee.
That was about 10 years ago.

                • @sircable: Thanks for the link, still a bit out of my price range for everyday consumption but I might get a kg of unflavored for my wife’s birthday.

  • For someone who can only afford Robert Timms instant espresso every day, what's the best deal for the occasional & can it be fridged/frozen?

    • For occasional good coffee, just treat yourself from a coffee cafe (not just a cafe that does coffee). It's hard to get coffee right if you only make it occasionally because of all the variables and experimentation involved to get it how you want it. Then you add on all the stuff you'll want/need to buy and it gets a bit silly.

Also there's something to be said for not going subjectively better things. Your wallet will thank you and your taste buds won't know any better.
