Wish is was USB-C charging rather than surface pro connect. I want all my devices USB-C

    • +5

It does charge via USB-C, most surfaces do, I have the Laptop Go 2 and it works well for travelling

      • I have laptop go 1 doesn't charge on USB C unfortunately

        • +1

Oh should probably say has to be USB-c PD above 35w to charge. Works on my old surface go too, if it's not working on yours definitely warranty claim it

Remind me their iPad trade in deal

  • Acknowledging the laptop has 256gb ssd and 16gb ram, the surface go 2 was $200 cheaper with 8gb ram and 128gb ssd. What are people's thoughts on whether the older model with more ram/space is a good deal for the premium?

I would say 8gb it too low nowadays. 16gb is the normal.
Gamers and Professionals who use software like CAD would say 32gb on a laptop
(Heavy chrome users who have 200+ tabs open maybe 64gb)

      • 8gb isn't really too low. These laptops are not for gamers or professionals. I'm seeking other opinions but I think this isn't a deal compared to a $625 Surface Go 2 from November 2022.

        • 8gb is definitely too low. Like i said 16gb is the new minimum for average users. NORMAL USERS.

Gamers and Professionals require ATLEAST 32gb.

Wtf has 200 tabs open.. that's the next shit tv show sorted, digital hoarders

        • right now I have 221 tabs open.

On Safari, on my iPad. It's just too much hassle to close them.

          • @mantichoral: In Google Chrome on Android it doesn't tell you how many after you get to 100 just shows a smiley face?
            I'm years past that 😬.

    • If you're gonna be doing teams meeting 8gb is gonna struggle with a meeting on and doing any sort of multitasking. The 128 HDD you can get away with by saving large files in OneDrive.

My previous laptop was the surface 3 and it struggled when any teams meeting was on

      • This, but MS teams aside, 8 GB just wont cut it these days. Budju wont agree, Im certain, despite asking for guidance.

        • I asked for direct comparisons with the laptop go 1 and laptop go 2. What I received was a load of bollocks about 8gb ram not being sufficient in the windows operating system environment for light desktop use.

      • I've actually owned a Laptop Go 2 for about a month, it was defective with a dead pixel and the dodgy Microsoft eBay store wouldn't replace it with a brand new replacement (so I did a refund).

I can advise you that the 8gb model can do teams. You can't throw too much at it though, but this is a basic light weight laptop so no power user in their right mind would go for a Surface Laptop Go.

I think the CPU on the first gen model will be a real let down.

We have thousands of users using teams and multitasking on 8GB. So, for a user that browses webpages, uses Word, Excel or PowerPoint it'll be fine atm. Moving into the future, I'd just future proof myself with 16GB of RAM. 👍

          • @ph81: I read that the Go 2 was a significant upgrade from the Go 1 though. Nobody seems to be able to provide specific commentary about this.

          • @ph81: I would have to respectfully disagree there.

8gb is the past, quite slow now. Maybe can use one thing at a time.

16gb is average normal if you want to multitask like using internet, chrome, ms teams open at the same time.

            32gb is future proof.
