Just confirming the screen is indeed 2.8k
    https://imgur.com/a/dbxL67m

  • Any idea what makes this a 2 in 1? It doesn't even have a touch screen, does it?

    • I believe it is a touchscreen.

According to the Asus website it has “Nanoedge Touchscreen” and it has support for the Asus pen too

      • Okay, thanks I might try to check it out at Officeworks.

Its a nice laptop with nice screen. But the wifi is a bit weak vs lg gram and acer swift. And it is much heaviee than those as well. But i think weight is quite subjective but that was the biggest gripe i had with this zenbook.

    • +4

1.35kg? Tried lifting a macbook-pro recently? This is closer to air territory

      • Yea like i said its subjective. It feels much heavier than Gram 14 and swift both under 1kg.

    • An Intel AX211 card is worth $30 delivered.
      Problem solved.

I do wonder about burn-in on these OLED laptops though, anyone have one for awhile would like to comment?

    • +1

Had my non touch for maybe 7 months. I only use it every 2nd or 3rd day for maybe 4 to 5 hours using the same program. Screen is fine.

  • +1

This oled screen appears to have a "screen door" effect on white screens. Which may be annoying to some.

Something about a digitiser thats is used to make it a touch screen.

    • There’s variations of screen door I’ve noticed.

On more premium screens it’s less obnoxious and almost acceptable.

Hard to know what this looks like.

    • Circly, do you or anyone else have experience with this particular one for the screendoor? Looking to pick one up but after reading lots of people mention this issue it's really put me off it as I'll use the device a lot for word processing.

I believe it's an issue with Samsung OLED panels?

  • Regret getting the MSI deal lol. This is way better. I would have gone and got this earlier i think but the stupid trackpad threw me off. It's just digital smh.

    • Can you explain? The trackpad being digital?

      • i thought it was printed on permanently and it would be ugly but turns out it can be turned on and off

        • Oh you’re talking about the calculator numpad. Yeah can be turned off.

Note that this is Zen3, not Zen4, which means it's either a rebranded Ryzen 5000 or 6000.

New naming scheme is XX3X, the third number being the generation, which doesn't specify if it's ZEN3 or ZEN3+.

    • +4

      A 7730U is basically a 5825U

      • +4

yeah annoyingly 7730U still contains the 2+ year old Vega graphics and not the newer RDNA2/3 graphics despite being branded "Radeon Graphics"

    • +2

Thank you, I assumed this was the latest generation, and it's not.

    • +2

This irks me still a good CPU but not latest gen and the new APU for graphics looks a lot better. Next laptop will be a framework I think.

      • love the idea of a framework but it's a bit expensive, any tips on getting the price down?

        • Doesn't seem like there are any resellers or discount as they have a direct to consumer model maybe something will change moving forward

    • +1

Probably why they’re discounted. Seems like a great deal anyway.

    • xx30 is 5000, xx35 is 6000.

    • +1

I don't know how this is related to this deal? Regardless, Clayton is a pretty good journalist and literally plays a clip of a US politician actually saying the very thing Clayton is reporting on. What truth are you looking for?

      • -4

Well do some research. TSMC is relying on state of the art Dutch technology to make masks with extreme far ultra violet light. Once this falls into China's hands the US and the West can keep rubbing their eyes and pay whatever it costs to get the latest chips. Apple's M3 is said to be one of the key chips.

  • +1

I'm just looking for a decent $500 max laptop, even if it's 2nd hand.

Needs to be better than my current one:

    • i5 7th gen
    • 8gb ram
    • 256gb SSD (can live with this)
    • 1080p 14'' IPS screen. (can live with this too)
    • -2

Find a 2019/2020 razer blade stealth.

      • Thanks for your suggestion. The cheapest I could find was over 1.1k though… Searched on eBay and Facebook.

    • +1

Look for i5-8th gen (8250u) devices, they often go for 300 to 350 bucks. The 8th gen is when laptops get 4 core cpus, and usually, those devices are sturdy as hell as they're business laptops.

Stuff like this gets posted here all the time

      • I know it's not $500… but that Macbook AIr deal is kind of enticing… M1 chip…

edit: That lenovo deal… What a good deal…

        • +1

Yeah the m1 is actually incredible. As long as you don't need anything that need windows apps, like emulation or gaming, it's probably incomparable for price.

t480s, elitebooks and latitudes gets flooded to the market periodically, just scour ebay or wait for another person posting it in ozbargain.

          • @Wonderfool: You know, am I wrong in saying that the M1 performance is awesome but there are 'equivalent' Intel chips that are as good?

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/774384

            https://versus.com/en/apple-m1-vs-intel-core-i5-1240p

The Lenovo is cheaper but 'beats' the Apple from that versus website.

            • +3

@ram4ram: What makes the m1 incredible isn't its raw performance, but rather, that it is using a computer chip made with mobile phone's cpu architecture, which is designed to use very little power to handle simple tasks. So the end result is that while the i5 might be able to output more raw compute power (ignoring validity of the site), the m1 is able to do alot more with alot less battery usage.

End result is that m1 often doubles, if not triples the battery life of equivalent laptops.

  • What's that keypad thing on the touchpad? Never seen that before. Does it actually have a screen in the touchpad?

  • Why I couldn't find more details on the GPU anywhere? It just says AMD Radeon graphics processor.

  • If Asus attached the ROG Ally extreme apu to this.it would be a instant buy

    • -1

Even then, risky. $1500 worth of "screw you" from Asus

    • They're gotta make their 3k laptop stand out somehow.

I'm really disappointed it isn't 6800u though. The 7840u or whatever Asus is calling their variant is only 20% faster at best.

  • Price has gone up to $1897. Still $1579 at JB Hi-Fi.
