I've seen a couple of these under a bridge in Brisbane. Should ask the tenants how they are.

I've asked so many swag users for a good reason why I should use one instead of my hiking tent (5min setup) and an exped but never get a convincing response. For simple overnight car camping with mates (aka "plan B.")

I really wanna buy this and try a swag. Can someone give me the convincing reason to do so?

Primarily comfort with it's built in mattress and the durability to help withstand the elements better (wind/rain). Have also found swags better at retaining heat in winter and typically don't get as warm inside in summer.

      • Thanks for responding.

Primarily comfort with it's built in mattress and the durability to help withstand the elements better (wind/rain).

This has a 5cm foam mattress, I use an exped that's 2x as thick and has better support and insulation.

Some reviews for this swag suggest it leaks in the rain - granted, could be an issue with this model - plus like all other swags will need seasoning. My hiking tent just works and doesn't generally leak.

Not crapping on your or anyone's own love of swags, just would really like to understand. I did realise this morning that a swag may give (much) better sleep in the early morning when the sun comes up - that is almost enough for me to give it a go..

    • I guess a few advantages would be:

      • The canvas should insulate a bit better than a polyester/nylon hiking tent and block a bit of light
      • Being able to open the top and just have the screen could be a bonus in hot weather
      • The swag material will take a lot more punishment, and the poles are probably stronger than a hiking tent
      • Depending on the swag/bag you can just roll it up with your pillow and sleeping bag inside it and throw it in/on your car.

I dunno, I've got a Kings Double Swag, I like the idea of swags but that particular one is just too big for what it is and I'm planning on offloading it. If I had the room to store more I'd replace it with a smaller one as an alternative to the RV5. Hiking tents are good in theory and certainly serve a purpose if you're traveling light, as a general camping tent I reckon there are better options as its strengths are essentially negated, especially given the cost of a decent hiking tent.

      • Ta.

Guess I'll find out. Couldn't help myself and got one to see.

Do these come with a swag bag and or the tarp that you put on the floor between the swag?

    • +2

Swag Bag sold separately, no additional tarp.
