Despite the name, it's not made in Australia.
I almost bought some a few weeks ago and then checked the label.
Bega 100% Australian Nuts only for me.

This has always been an American product, with absolutely no links to Australia whatsoever. It just so happens that the word "skippy" has a different meaning down here.

It tastes pretty good though, I have to say. But of course, things like peanut butter really depends on personal preferences.

For the comparable product from Bega, Peanut Butter Smooth = Less than 10% Australian ingredients, that is the canola oil that they just chuck in the mix just because.
      Imported nuts.

also, despite the claim 'no added sugaf' their nutrition label states otherwise

      • That's because peanuts contain a little bit of sugar naturally, but more fat and protein. You could argue 'no added protein' or 'no added fat' too I guess. Only 3 ingredients Nuts, oil, salt. Therefore no sugar is added. Label is correct. Everything has a combination. Even watermelon has protein and fat (only a little) and sugar.

        • thanks, but i guess my replied didnt sound as intended.
aware of broken down carbs are thus sugars.
browned part of banana is sweeter as the carbs are broken down example.

but why is there such a variation of overall sugars between brands that claim only oil, salt, and peanuts.
are they making the peanuts change structure or are they not telling us something?

also.. why should they need a brand that says 'no added sugar'.
when did peanut butter suddenly feel the need to add sugar.

          hope this is clearer

    Just watched this last night.

This has been in 'clearance' mode at my local Woolworths for a couple of months now. Cheap, and tastes good.

~5% palm oil for some unknown reason.. Peanuts didn't have enough oil already?

    • Yeah a common ingredient in most PB. I think it helps preserve it longer (but not 100% sure). Health food shops will usually grind you 100% peanuts for you with no added stuff. Yummo!

  • Since when did peanut butter have added sugar to begin with? Still has higher sugar content than Mayvers.

    • American's add sugar to most things including PB. They process everything as much as they can. Tastes nice actually, but I love simple PB too as it's healthier.

      • I knew they added it to bread (which makes it taste awful as my tastebuds aren't conditioned) - the addition to PB sounds crazy. PB&J I don't mind, though!

negging this because this is fake peanut butter. people should not buy this crap or Kraft etc. Get Peanut butter that is only 100% made from peanuts.

    • +1

What an odd reason for a neg. In your opinion people should buy different peanut butter?

      • +1

        tbh, not odd at all.

    • 95.4% roasted peanuts, palm oil and salt.
      fake ?

      • +1

95.4% real - can't remember when main stream media hit that high a percentage!

This was on clearance for same price at my Woolies too.
IMO it's Meh. It's oilier and the taste of peanut is not as strong as beqa.

    • Agree, very underwhelmed by it's flavour - very oily and the peanut flavour is incredibly muted - almost absent entirely, making me think they used poor quality peanuts in it. I'd not buy or recommend.

  • It's been this price for a few months now.

  • Mayvers Dark Roasted or nothing quite frankly
