Lenovo quad-core desktop for $699 at Harris Tech

130

Harris Tech is having a 2-day sale with its quad-core lenovo desktop minus monitor for $699. It's only a q6600 though, but still pretty good value just by itself, especially when everyone else's just jacked up their prices recently. Exchange rates really do hurt, I guess.

Specification: Lenovo ThinkCentre A57 9702

  • Tower
  • 1 x Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz
  • RAM 2 GB
  • HDD 1 x 320 GB

  • Monitor: none

  • Very very cheap, similar system from MSY

    Coolermaster RC-330: 69
    Q6600: 295
    2GB Kit - Transcend: 38
    320G WD: 71
    20x SATA Samsung: 25
    Home Premium: 165
    MSI G31M3-F: 54
    Build Fee: 70
    Total: $718

Only thing I don't understand is how the system from harris tech can run on a 280W power supply, as I don't know of any quality 280W PSU's.

    • Maybe its a Shaw psu.

    • I guess Lenovo will pay a lot less than $165 for a copy of Vista Home Premium, which appears to be the most expensive "component" on the list.

    • Video cards usually draw the most power, this is especially the case for high end video cards, since this is sytem has intergrated graphics, 280W should be sufficient.

  • Well, the system itself would draw around 130-160W under full load.

The likes of HP/IBM/Dell have their own spec PSUs mass produced, they don't just pick them off of the shelf.

  • Wow. This is a great price for a retail PC. I might have to pop out and grab one to replace my old dual core AMD.

Edit: 7:00PM Just picked one up. It is a very nice machine and comes installed with 2 firewire ports in PCI slot. PSU for model on display was LiteOn but looks like case can accomodate larger PSUs. Card reader is installed in a 3.5" bay but this can be removed to add another HDD. Included with machine is a Lenovo keyboard and optical mouse. BIOS definately not for overclockers but not my thing. Has a 16x PCI-E slot for fasted graphics cards. Normal RRP is $1142 or $1399 with a 19" monitor.

  • I'm half thinking about it, but hanging onto the faint glimmer of hope that my Dell might come through..

  • Looks like there's only 2 ram slots.. so to upgrade RAM, you'd have to dump 2x1Gb sticks..
    "Expansion Slots Total (Free):

    2 memory - DIMM 240-pin

    1 ( 0 ) x processor - LGA775 Socket

    2 ( 2 ) x PCI - half-length, full-height

    1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x1 - half-length, full-height

    1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x16 - half-length, full-height"

    • you cant use more then 3GB anyway.

  • OW is selling it with 19" LCD for $999, the LCD on SI is well over $200, so it's not like a huge saving with the HT 2 day sale, HT is retailing it normally @$899

    • Seems like a bargain to me, no one would pay $300 for a 19" LCD. You could get a 24" for that much. So $699 excluding monitor is a good deal.

      • I was trying to justify "Normal RRP is $1142 or $1399 with a 19” monitor" posted above wasn't quite the case. You do still save over $100 if you love this Lenovo.

        • This are the prices I was given in store off their stores price list. They may be RRP but as with everything, prices can and do vary in the real world.

          • @Graeme: Just as a comparison, in the HT site there is also another Lenovo desktop with much of the muchness with this desktop, except with Vista Business + XP and better graphics card. That's selling for $1,270, before shipping charges. Almost half-price for just about the same thing…
