Description from the offer page:
"From noon BST on Friday 17th August we'll be having a new book every hour, on the hour. We have limited stock of each title and when they're gone they're gone! Psst However, if a book sells out REALLY quickly we may have a few different titles to slot in to fill the hour up… Keep your eyes peeled."

sooo… what would a potential buyer be saving here??

    • +1

Depends on each book every hour. Last time around the savings were significant, the ones I bought had a saving of 30-40%.

but if I posted this at 9pm, people might only have 2-3 minutes to make a purchase as some books sold out really quickly the last time, so isn't it better to know a few hours in advance?

I would be almost certain that every book wont be available cheaper if buying new, the last time this was on I checked everything on booko and the offer prices were all 30%+ lower than the next cheapest I could find. If the bookdepository spend the time running a promotion like this, I'm sure they will price books lower than all competitors, otherwise it wouldnt be a success.

I agree some of the books mightn't be worth buying and just because its cheap doesn't mean we should buy it.

I'm with you jv, it's a communist conspiracy to have us all preoccupied at 9pm when the pogroms start.

      • just reserve your vote until you find out what the book is, research it and tell us if it is cheaper.

We are counting on you to do the right thing

Whats with the pre-emptive criticisms. There are so many deals that go up days before the deal is active. Also 2 good deals in the past that haven't attracted criticism include:
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72983
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62819

Both didn't have any details either.

At least be consistent guys and don't be scum for the sake of being scum

Coincidentally, found out about the deal this morning while browsing for Lee Child latest Jack Reacher novel, "The Affair". Bought that at $7.74 delivered! Will keep an eye on what's available 9pm tonite.

Ooh I love these discount runs from the Book Depository! Thanks OP, can't wait!

hmm it needs a countdown clock because of the multiple time zones buyers come from.

Otherwise OP I think the criticism about "not a deal" is too harsh.

    Thanks for your efforts!

There is a countdown timer on the homepage.
