Uber One Customer Retention Offer: $1 for a Month (90% off) @ Uber

1760

I missed to cancel my 6 month free Uber one membership and got charged $9.99 for the next month (hands in ozb badge)
So, I went straight in the app and tried cancelling my membership. The first page asked for a reason and I chose “paying too much for membership” (or something similar). Then on the next page it gave me an offer to continue my Uber one membership for another month after the current for 90% off which is $1 - of course I chose to continue.
Posting this here - just incase someone is in the same boat as me.
Enjoy!

  • Good find! I tried your method and it works!

  • Good tip. My free Uber one expires on the 10 July

    • +3

You can do it now so next renewal you will be charged only $1

      • Thanks! CBA offer runs until mid September, and this was already applied so first month after is a dollar

        • You tried to cancel while still having few months under the CBA promo ?

          • -1

@HardQuiz: I cancelled as soon as I applied the promo (and stacked with new user free trial to total 7 months). You still receive the full-length subscription.

            • +1

@Techie4066: Can confirm. Also cancelled my CBA 6 month promo already but it’ll still run until end of September and after that it’s the $1 renewal

  • Does this mean month after you got charged $9.99 or did they refund you for that month so that it was $1?

    • +2

For me, I signed up for a month and paid the $9.99. Went to cancel near the end of the month and was offered an extra month for $1. So two months for $11.

There was quite a number of "spend $30 get $15 off" deals at local restaurants for UberOne restaurants during this time, and even after allowing for uber fees and price gouges you come out well in front compared to picking up from restaurant.

Uber One also gives you 10% off ride fares, and they occasionally sling vouchers like "spend $30 get $20 off" on (price inflated) groceries.

You need to be judicious and not buy things you wouldn't have otherwise bought, but in two months I'm confident you'll be able to easily extract $11 of value. I definitely did.

  • Yup worked for me as well

  • On the Mastercard 6 month promo, which is about to end this June.

Fiddled around, but don't see the offer after selecting my reason for cancellation. Also don't see the same "paying too much for membership” reason available. Too scared to click "Continue" twice in case i cancel my freebie promo, but will try again closer to the expiry!

    • I was too but then realised I'm not on a promo. I went through on second continue and it offered 90% off.

    • +3

You can cancel early and still be subscribed. I did on my first day. Might save you some unexpected fees.

    • +2

I'm on a promo and didn't have the "paying too much for membership" option either, but I chose "not saving enough" (or similar), clicked continue once, then it showed me how much I had saved through Uber One, then clicked continue again, and got the 90% offer.

  • Thanks OP. Worked for me as well..

  • Good deal mate. Here’s your OzBargain badge back

My quarter pounder intake has dropped dramatically after stopping Uber Eats.

    • +1

Quick you better sign up again

    • The ones i get delivered are always cold…

  • It only works once….

  • +11

Uber Eats has really gone down the shitter. If you don't pay for priority delivery for an extra $3.50 on top of already higher delivery prices than others + service fee your order will have 3+ stops along the way and when your food eventually arrives it's cold.

Support doesn't care and when they finally reply it's not the question you asked, but the one they want to answer.

Possibly the only way to get value out of this is to get one of the grocery offers and use them at Coles which just as on Doordash, aims to match in-store pricing (which in itself is inflated lol).

    • last time food arrived cold and too late they refunded the whole thing for me

      • Perhaps it's time to set up a new account then with new credentials if they just hate me 😂

Find it infuriating how if you use chat/email a new person replies each time and they don't bother to read back on the conversation so it's reconfirming order numbers, issues, expected resolution etc.

        • You don't talk to anyone to get a refund. Just follow the procedure in the app. Full out the forms, take a few photos and they just give you the money back.

If you do this order after order they won't do it.

          • @serpserpserp: I don't/didn't do it order after order but even with the forms it gets sent as a chat. When I had something missing from my order it took me 4 days of back and forth to get partial credit..

Plus have you ever tried to talk to them about something else? Like for example a promo code just vanished?

          • +1

@serpserpserp: I do the same. Just use one of the famous 'laser' temperature readers from ozb. point it at the cold food and take a photo. Put photo into the feedback section of the app. Put food into air fryer. Wait for refund.

        • Not sure honestly, i reduced my uber usage after getting a wfh job but i used to use it a lot every week before and it was pretty much on time and if it got very late they'd compensate with a voucher

And it happened to me once where the Uber driver literally drove past me to go get petrol or something (according to him) I complained online and pretty much got the whole thing refunded with a few clicks (no chats)

I live in Sydney Inner West, maybe that has something to do with it

    • If you have uber one and your food is late they give you a $5 credit and if you complain you usually get it free.

Uber Eats has really gone down the shitter.

I've found Uber in general has gone down the shitter.
It used to be regular people looking to earn some quick bucks offering a side hustle, now you have career drivers just like taxis in the old days, treating you like shit and cherry picking profitable fares over others.
I tried booking a ride the other day, the driver contacted me to ask where I was going, then watched him drive around in circles waiting for me to respond. Then he messaged me to say he was stuck in traffic so I jumped in a cab and went home. By the time I got home he was still doing laps and asking me to cancel the trip.
Add this sort of thing to surge pricing and I prefer Taxis again now.

    • They only rose to fame off free covid zero interest rate money.

Now they're paying 5% on their borrowed billions, shareholders must be getting a bit antsy and demanding a return instead of throwing cash into a furnace.

  • Legend!

  • Did not work for me.

  • +3

Works when you click “not saving enough” and then click through again to “continue”.

    • +1

This works. I joined 4 weeks free, then cancelled, then above

      • Where do you find the 4 weeks free offer?

    • +1

      Can confirm. Thankyou :)

  • Did anyone use Uber cash to pay and NOT get the 10% discount? It worked for me on the way to airport but the trip home did not work. Messaged support and they said I didn't use the right payment method to qualify (CBA MasterCard).

    • +2

I always pay using Uber Cash but default payment method is selected as MasterCard. If I select PayPal or any other card there, I won't get the discount.

So enable Uber cash option and selecting MasterCard as the default payment method is the trick. Obviously it will use your ubercash first and if it's not enough, it'll fallback on your MasterCard CC.

      • I didn't change anything and it worked for my trip to the airport but was declined after 2 weeks on my trip back. Weird. Thanks for the suggestion anyway

  • Got this, thanks!

  • Thanks @Dealking

  • Thanks OP, it worked a treat. :)

  • I missed to cancel

Beautiful things are born out of mistakes

  • This was posted in the uber one deal with MasterCard, definitely needed its own thread though

  • I did the $1 month, went to cancel again and got another $1 month.

    • Uber's making megabux, $1 at a time

      • update: Just tried to cancel again and was not offered another $1 month.

  • Worked! Thanks OP!

  • Not directly related to the offer but it thought i will check out Uber One as i have some rides to the airport coming up and saving 10% on this will cover the cost of it easily.

However when i sign in and try to join it tells me that "Sorry, Uber One isn't available to you right now" . Not sure what's going on. Any ideas?

The F**K it's so hard to cancel the subscription!

  • Hey guys, there is not I way for me to cancel my subscriptions instead of going into Paypal and deactivate the subscription on Paypal's end, thus this would leave no benefits gained for me.

    • +1

Account > Uber One > Manage Membership > End Membership

      • -1

Nothing man! I only have the Delete my Uber account option. The guy above was able to figure out. thanks though

  • Can anyone post a screenshot of the offer?

    • I am already in my $1 month and also cancelled the Uber one membership for next month. Hope someone else here can help. Have you tried cancelling in the app and choosing “Not saving enough” as the reason for cancellation?

      • I selected it - but it didn’t apply to my account. So trying to get the online chat to re apply it.

  • Still working for me, cheers OP!

  • Got this, thanks OP!

  • got 3 months for 90% off thx OP!
