Ads has been taken down by DSE, good news is jv has posted his pricematch receipt. Please see jv's post below for OW pricematch receipt.

Was looking for cheap 2TB 2.5" usb3.0 in Australia and I found DSE is selling WD My Passport 2TB 2.5" USB 3.0 for $149.99. Which I think is really cheap compare to results from staticice.com for $269.

This is only online. Will OW still price match it?

EDIT: This is no longer available

    • I got one for $149 from OW…

They checked online and verified the price, even though I had a printout…

They told me they won't add postage because it was DSE, so I didn't push my luck with asking for another 5% off…

Shelf price at OW was $285

moral of the story: buy now, think about the repercussions with missus later.

My wife's haircut cost more than this drive, so i didn't have any problems…

        • +2

Haha, I wasn't worried about the cost, I do overtime if I want stuff on top of the budget and she does the same, the joy of us both working in an profession with unlimited overtime. what she was annoyed about is me pulling my phone out the check constantly, so I left it in my pocket for a few hours and missed this.

  • Did anyone get a screengrab I can take to OW?

  • Hey guys just letting you know I went to officeworks just then and the guy messed up with the price match and I got one for $132.05

I will post up what happend and a scan of the receipt when I get home =)

    • Did you use Jv's receipt or the screengrab? I went this morning with the receipt and was outright rejected. Was even told that the receipt was probably shopped.

      • +2

Hey I'm home now. Yes, I used jorsmith's screengrab.

I went in and asked the guy if he can price match Dick Smith's price and showed him both Jv's receipt and the screengrab. He said he doesn't need the receipt and he went away to check. He came back and said Dick Smith have no stock and I said well they did this morning. He then said come have a look and he took me to the computer where he had the stock check up on the Dick Smith website. I asked him if I can find stock using a different postcode can he do it and he said yes.

Then he walked away and I realised he was looking at a different product on DS site. He was looking at a Western Digital 1TB USB 3.0 2.5" drive for $139. So on the same product I tried a few different postcodes and eventually got it to show up as in stock. I went and got him and showed him and he said he will have to ask his supervisor.

His supervisor comes over and the guy told him, we have this for $285 can we price match this? his supervisor said well if its in stock we have to. So I went to the counter and the lady said I also get the 5% discount.

In short: He price matched it to the wrong item which meant I got it $139 and with the 5% discount I got it for $132.05 total.

It doesn't get any better then that ;)

Hi Guys. Thanks for the info. Just went to OW in East Kew Melbourne with a copy of jv's receipt(thanks!)and purchased 2 of these for $283.10. It sure doesn't get any better than this.

    Receipt: http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/08/18/9182_officeworks19082…

    • Awesome!

I considered going back to get a few more but I didn't want to be greedy hehe

Sigh rejected again by another officeworks

  • Did you guys just print out the receipt and screengrab and show it to officeworks?

  • I am at an officeworks now but they need the receipt number which was blocked out Any chance you could please re-upload the pic with the receipt number please?

  • I went to OW Box Hill South store and show them the screenshot and the receipt from jv, they said that can beat it by 5%, but there's no more stock available. They called Nunawading store and put aside one for me. I went to Nunawading straight away, but the guys there refused to give me the deal cos DSE online price is already gone.I said Box Hill South store can do it but no more stock, the guy said then that's their problem and they've done it wrong. (I feel pissed off by their cold faces, after driving all around the areas like an idiot and got nothing at all). After lunch I went to Kew East store to try my luck, with the receipt from jv, they did not ask me a single question, and gave me the deal straight away. I bought one and turned back in 5 minutes and bought another one. That's the whole story. Guys, if you want the deal, go to Kew East, and I swear to god I (and I will convince all my friends)will never go back to Nunwading store again.

    • if you want the deal, go to Kew East

they only opened a few weeks ago… very friendly staff…

(please don't bankrupt them though, it's my local OW)

      • Thanks for the receipt buddy

        • No probs… glad you got the deal…

There can't be many left, there were only about 5 there yesterday…

  • … WILL IT WORK IN nsw?

  • +1
    • 10 bucks cheaper?how come?

      • He posted this further up:

    • Thanks junkie for post the receipt, I guess the receipt no is the bottom line with barcode rite? I will try tomorrow to my local officework and see my luck.

      thanks

      • Yep, receipt number is under the barcode. Good luck ;)

Guys 150 is the price you pay for a ONE TB 2.5 inch drive. Are you guys 100% sure that this is:
    a) 2.5 and not 3.5 inch
    b) usb3?

This is a crazy good price.

Edit: Furthermore no point in posting receipts because OW policy is NOT to pricematch pictures/scans/copies of receipts as they use the old "it might be photoshopped" excuse.

  • -5

but big W also has something similar at a cheaper price, whats the diff?

  • +1

    Hi guys,
I tried my local officework here in Sydney with the printed receipt. the lady asked me is that from internet. few other customer also came earlier today with same receipt to match the price and unfortunately they could not do it while dicksmith discontinued the product. the lady also said whoever in Melb did it wrong match the price yesterday while the stock was out of stock in dicksmith on 18th.

Oh well, whoever got the deal are really lucky and enjoy using it :)

    thanks guys.

    • Thanks for telling us your experience! +1
Lucky i didnt waste my time with trying to go in to OW today.

      • yaa, we will see next time :)

if anyone in syd got the deal, let us know..

i noticed dicksmith now put 1TB passport drive for 149 and discontinued the 2TB one. I don't know it was a mistake…

  • Ordered and received the Mac version 1TB one instead of 2TB one :(

  • I went into a Sydney Officeworks store and managed to get them to price match the receipt uploaded by knots2u2 (http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/08/18/9183_officeworks.jpg),even though they found out Dick Smith discontinued the deal. The argument I used was it is not about price matching Dick Smith any more, it is about getting the equivalent deal another Officeworks offered to another consumer. I told them to call the East Kew Store to validate the transaction which they did. I was then allowed to purchase 2 of those WD 2TB HDs for $283.10.

Hi I am in Sydney. Could you please scan and upload your receipt with the receipt no which you bought the Hard drive in Sydney today, which will be helpful me to get for same price in one of the sydney officeworks.

      thanks
