Not 4k, but Banshees of Inisherin and The Whale are what I'm tossing up

    • Somewhat poetically, I was unable to snag my Whale

Airbender complete series for $38 is quite good if theres something around that price to do the B1G1F

    • Damn that's a lot of quality per dollar. Arguably the best family animated series.

  • This could almost be it's own deal. 4K Doctor Strange 1 & 2 for $20.99

    • +8

      2 was crap unfortunately

  • Bugger all in stock at my local. Bet some of them are but not showing up online. Has happened before.

    • There are a few I'm after that are not available at my local store online

Might have to call in in the morning and see if I can find them on the shelf

  • Right, time to make a list.

Anyone know if Amazon are going to have an answering sale? They usually seem to want to not be outdone.

    • +4

In my experience, Amazon rarely if ever outdo someone on a sale. At best, they'll match it.

      • They did last year. Not a 2 for 1 sale but they dropped many of their in stock 4k titles down to half price to match JB.

    • +1

Amazon doesn’t have huge selection of movies compared with JB HiFi.

  • +1

Unfortunate it cannot be used on pre orders. They've just confirmed Avatar: The Way Of Water (3D) Blu-Ray but is a pre order…

  • +1

The Expanse seasons 1-3 at $63 is a pretty good deal. Even a used single season DVD/Blu ray usually goes for around $15-20 on eBay. Personally, I also got the Mission Impossible box set (1-6) as well. Works out to around $11.33 per season and $5.67 per movie assuming even that they're evenly valued.

  • Oh hell yeah thanks OP !

  • +4

you can get two 4k star wars trilogies for 28 bucks. not bad at all.

  • Amazon going to price match?

    • I hope so

  • +9

Single seasons of new anime are $109…
I know I'm out of touch but woah, even bogof that's way beyond what I would happily pay
Also it seems like DVD is still the superior format for beautiful boxsets with actual boxes and artwork

TV on BluRay sorted price low to high

Things that stood out in my search:
    $80-90
    Breaking Bad Complete $87.50
    Downton Abbey Complete $80.50
    Friends Complete $85
    Stargate Atlantis Complete $89
    Neon Genesis Evangelion $89.98
    Prison Break Complete $90.30

    $25
    FLCL $24.98
    Afro Samurai Complete $24.98
Pleny of single seasons at this price

    Around $35
Avatar Aang Complete $38.49 (thanks Legsweeping)
Game of Thrones S8 with Arya Pop Vinyl 34.98

    Don't forget Perks $10 voucher

  • Who doesn’t love a good BOGOF? Just have to avoid the crap. ;-) Thanks OP

Anyone in Brisbane want to go halfies on the Pixar 4k collection?

    • Please note

      Limit 1 per customer

    • I'm so confused as to why the whole set is uhd/blu-ray except for Pixar Short Films Collection Volume 3 - which is DVD. I guess it was never released on Blu-ray outside NA?

  • -2

    Anything for $5?

  • This is the worst BOGOF in JB history

    • How?

      • Used to get much better prices on recent 4K movies

        • 4k movies from a year ago are still the same price. Doesn't seem they reduce the prices as time goes on anymore.

          • @mrpickle: Yea! Somehow COVID has also impacted 4K blu ray prices. Pre COVID you could get fairy recent movies for 10 to 15 bucks on sae

            • +1

@mlburnian: DVDs are still outselling Blu Ray/4K something like still having 56% of the market share https://www.mediaplaynews.com/research/2021-top-selling-titl…

which is having a bad impact on the physical media industry. Sad that streaming is the new way to go but even more frustrating that people value price over picture quality so therefore they have to keep prices up to keep production up

        • Gotta say, I'm pretty sure I remember some lower prices on these earlier in the year. And there is some real remainder bin junk that they have at full price. Still others that I think "you'd have to pay me to take these away"

  • +1

I got dark knight, dark knight rises, interstellar and top gun maverick. my first time buying 4k discs, I've been told that 4k discs are much, much better than streaming. I will see what the hype's all about :D

    • What's your TV/sound setup?

If you're running, for example, a hisense, you may be better off with just blu ray tbh

      • i have a tcl c835 mini led tv. i know an OLED would be ideal but i'm not willing to spend that kind of money (yet).

i dont have a sound setup but I am planning to get an atmos sound bar soon..

        • +1

Okay cool. Hopefully you'll experience the leap!

        • +2

Sound is where the biggest diff with uhd disc…. So get that setup happening with a sub. Picture is better too, less compression artefacts etc

        • How's your experience been so far if you've had the chance to test?

    • +1

As gazer says, the most improvement is with sound. 4k disks will give you Dolby Atmos and also a much sharper and brighter image with Dolby Vision - not all discs, though - than what streaming gives you. It's all about the bit rate. Be wary though, not all 4k discs are an improvement of Full HD Blu-Ray discs. Just check out You tube or google a review of the movie that you're interested in. Interstellar is one of the best 4k releases and I thoroughly recommend The Reverent, for picture quality.

      • Thanks for sharing! I am currently looking at sound bars, would a budget sound bar (<$600) be a decent upgrade from TV speakers? Looking at Sonos Beam Gen 2, it has been on sale for sub $500 in the past, so might get it on the next sale.

        • +1

I have no idea about Sonos. But there have been a lot of very good reviews for the previous Samsung top two sound bars, the q990 and I think the q930 both have 9.14 surround sound. They will cost more than Sonos but should be able to be bought for under $1,000 on sale. Personally, I have a 5.1 sound system which I bought effectively for half price through certain sales I realise that you are probably on the budget but maybe save up a few more hundred dollars and get yourself a much better sound bar and you will not regret it. Happy to help with any other questions. Edit: Try to go for last year's Q990B or 930 B. They have just released the new 2023 C model and personally I reckon you will be better off saving a few hundred and buying last years model.

          • @omblygombly: Thanks for your recommendations! I'll definitely be looking out for a sale on those samsung models

            • @st9811beast: While I was picking up some movies today I noticed that they were running out Samsung soundbars at 50% off .
They were in a big pile next to the checkout of all various models .
Twelve speaker models ect , the sales guy was giving his pitch about them being the best for demo setup .
Pretty sure some were marked down from rrp aswell plus the fifty off too .
This was in a qld store but might be worth a look around.

Any order I make using Ultimate Gift Cards online is failing the verification process and being automatically cancelled. Any tips? Am putting the expiry as 12/29.

    • Are they not in store only ?

    • Try the gift card actual expiry - check balance for mm/yy.

  • What are some good 4k movies. New OLED tv to give it a try with.

    • +2

Interstellar, Dune, Matrix, and Lord of the Rings are my personal favourites.. look fantastic but in themselves great to watch.

    • John Wick 1,2,3,4

    • To show off your inky black oled you should grab the movie "Annihilation" in 4K from USA, will work fine here

  • Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended & Theatrical Editions) + Hobbit, The Trilogy (Extended & Theatrical Editions)
    $85 for both.
    Hmmmm, is it good enough?

    • Best price for the date

      • +1

I got them both for $59 from memory, similar JB deal, both on sale and perk voucher

    • +4

Tell me you don't have an awesome AV setup without telling me

  • -8

DVDs and Blu-ray surely must be a dying trade. Haven't owned a player in nearly 8 years. With subscriptions and torrenting and many cinemas only $8 why would you

    • +7
      1. Superior visual and audio quality
      2. Owning the media E.g. it can't be removed by a steaming platform.
      3. It can't be modified and censored down the road.
      4. People like to collect and display.
      5. Can resell if you don't like it.
      • I think resell is a mute point. My dad collected every medium under the sun, VHS and DVD he went all out and had literally thousands. In the end the VHS all got mouldy and DVDs were sold for next to nothing due to blu ray taking over.

I shudder to think how much he has spent.

Now he has started on blue ray and a bit of 4k..

        • You should only buy movies you plan on rewatching. Collecting can become a curse if you dont know how to stop.

        • But he did resell them ;)

    • +1

4K discs are another level. Stunning quality, infinite replays (don't suddenly disappear from the cupboard when rights change hands etc). Audio quality <3 I don't buy too many physical discs any more but the all time favourites are definitely worth it.

  • STILL holding out for Aliens 4K release :( I'd be keen on Top Gun Maverick but not sure what else I need in mega ultra high def :)

    • Same Aliens is missing for me!

  • Is there an active mega thread where people are giving away JB Perk codes?

  • +1

When have Amazon matched this deal in the past? The morning after the sale was announced? Seeing they haven't matched yet is it safe to say they won't this year?

    • Amazon have matched! on now, some of the prices on amazon are better

  • +1

Might worth holding til next Wednesday. Last year they did Wicked Wednesday during the B1G1F deal with an extra 5% off I think it was.

    • Also note it is 30% off some box sets currently and then stacks with B1G1F. Not sure when that ends though but amazing if you could stack that with additional 5%

  • Bought alot of movies and few boxset. Rewatched Apocalypse Now Final Cut today and surrounding sound was awesome. Chopper flying over head going one side to other. Picture quality was awesome great too.

    • If you have an Atmos setup, the helicopter genuinely sounds like it's above you. It was the first thing I tested on my q990b and it was pretty great.

  • If you are buy those in store, just buy some sort of TCN cards prior buying the discs so you can get the EDR points from Woolies as well.

  • Amazon is running same deal now on some products. I don’t know how exactly to post link here but search” Apocalypse Now 4K” and you will see under listing “2 for 1” and then select “qualified items” to see eligible products.

  • Had about 10 blu rays in my cart and they wanted to charge $26 postage. Delivery kills the deal.

  • +1

Another 10% off when combined with an Ultimate Home gift card that has an adequate residual balance :)

  • Anyone in Perth want to go halfies on the Pixar 4k collection?

    • Hoping to get hunter X Hunter box set of similar value, would you be interested?

      • Thanks but unfortunately not. Looking for something kid friendly

        • No worries, I must have misunderstood. I thought that you needed someone to get another half of the deal i.e. you get the Pixar box set and I'll get the Hunter box set, and we pay $137 each.
Because personally I struggle to find another box set with similar value :'(

          • @natiff: Sorry Bud, totally my misunderstanding. Yes, I would be happy for us to transact as suggested. I noticed however that theres no physical stock of the one in Perth that youre after.

            • @ChatGPT-4: No problem, I've seen it yesterday at Cannington JB hi-fi in person, but strangely it's not shown to be available online now. I will give them a call and check again, will Cannington store be too far away for you?

              • @natiff: Its a bit out of the way for me either today or tomorrow as I'll be working in the city. I live in Success so could meet you afterwards. Where are you based?

                • @ChatGPT-4: I'm located in willetton, just called and they do have the box set I wanted. How would you want to do this?

                  • @natiff: Thats great - Happy for you to purchase and I can come collect off you any evening in Willetton. I walk my dogs at the sports grounds regularly
