I think this is a historical low if you don't count the $699 deal from 2021 that came with $150 Steam credit.

  • 2880tbw for this drive.

    • Is that good or bad?

      • I have a 870 EVO 4TB and it’s rated at 2400TBW.

And the 4TB TLC will likely outrun 8TB on QLC in real life durability.

        • Thanks for the comparison! So it's about "half" as good per TB of storage. Shame there's not an EVO version of this!

It's bad if you need to write more than 789GB a day, every day for 10 years.

          Lol

        • it's thinking like this that's ruining the consumer market. This type of thinking is why TBW ratings have been decreasing EXPONENTIALLY for the past 10 years.

What's next? An ssd that's only rated for 100GB a day? Cuz ""who"" does that for 10 years amr?

          yeah no thanks

@sunnysteve: Nonsense, every product category has high end, midrange and budget options and the SSD market is no exception - you've just got Rolls Royce tastes on a Kia budget.

            • @Dogsrule: idk what you are on about.
First of all the "rolls royce" that you used is still crappy QLC. If it's SLC or MLC/eMLC than yes I'm okay with calling it the rolls royce of ssds.
second of all we aren't talking about market placements here because no matter it's budget option or high end option the segment never changed. We are talking about a single segment.
Also your analogy is terrible because there's a good chance a MG might outlast a rolls royce.

A better analogy with cars would be that consumers are hypothetically gonna get cars that will 100% break down at 300k odo or 15 years or something cuz SURELY no one needs a car for that long any more right?

              yeah no thanks.

          • @sunnysteve: 100GB per day is still absolutely fine for 99% of users - that is a truly colossal amount of writes.

Getting down to that level of endurance with the low price of today has been a great trade-off.
Almost nobody wants high endurance high price drives - there's just no need for a "normal" home user.

            • @Nom: you are correct, but still quite irritating knowing that your product is "downgrading" in some ways even tho it has "no" impact

              • @sunnysteve: But you're benefiting from the lower price - so it's not all bad !

  • still waiting on a Mx500 2tb deal

  • -1

    just imagine it

  • Good deal, but just wait 6-7 years and these'll be in the bargain bin for $120 bucks :P

    • i hope my 4yo wd40efrx survive another 7 years :)

    • I certainly hope so, but 8 TB consumer SSDs are still very rare, and this model is almost 3 years old.

true we need more demand. Otherwise same thing will happen to what happened to 128~256gb ssds. still selling, price already bottomed out for many years.
Or monitors, 1080p monitors still selling, price bottoming out. Every new technology is a new price added on top, getting more and more ridiculously expensive.

  • 4TB EVO is $379 at Samsung (and other retailers) plus $50 newsletter voucher brings it to $329:
    https://www.samsung.com/au/memory-storage/sata-ssd/870-evo-4…

Otherwise it's $341.10 through the Portal for me

    • This needs to come down to the 250-280 price mark, but with SS's premium might be unlikely.

These make great Steam drives 👍

  • This has gone up to $799 now - after PWE22 it's $628.72.

    • Jack was a bit late this time.

Still $603.72 after the $25 discount from FTCVMRH5.
