Ozito 18 Volt Four Piece Kit - Drill, Impact Driver, Saw and LED Light - Bunnings $99 VIC

790

Ozito 18V Li-Ion kit
4 piece kit

Includes Drill, Impact driver, Cut saw and LED worklight, 2 Batteries, Charger and carry bag

Picture taken from the Herald Sun Saturday 18th August 2012

Saw it at Bunnings Keysborough on Chelthenham road, Victoria
there was about a dozen on display.

they were next to the ozito 2 piece kit (drill and impact driver kit) which was $149
so i think to get 4 tools for less than that price is pretty good

In my opinion, i've always found Ozito to be pretty decent for the occasional DIY'er.
it is marketed as a 'DIY ONLY' kit, so obviously if you're a tradie or a professional, you'd want the higher end gear

but for the occasional work around the house, can't go wrong, especially at this price

Enjoy

Nice post with good information and links. Well done

  • Thanks for the share and details. Will head down to my loca bunnings to pick one up

  • +1

Yeah I think I might grab one too. Edit: I'm in ACT. I guess I'll find out when I get there.

On a related note, what's the difference between a drill and an impact driver? :)

    • +1

Impact has a action similar to a mechanics ratchet gun. Great for diving in screws.

    • Salem did you find one in the ACT? Tuggeranong told me it was an old promotional item and they didn't have any.

    • Is an impact drill a combination of a drill and an impact driver?

  • +1

no worries. i've always wanted to give something back to the ozb community.

got a kit for myself, pretty decent. haven't used it yet, but feels solid enough for the job.

don't know if this is available in other states, so i changed the title to VIC. if anyone in another state can confirm?

  • +1

Seems good value - will head to my QLD store later on.

  • +2

Had one of the cordless drills before, but returned it after about 2 days. Doesn't seem to have enough torque. Got a Bosch instead, although it was double this price, but was a lot nicer, and prob last a lot longer since it isn't made in china.

However it is a good price though.

  • What kind of rechargeable battery does it take?

    • Portable. :)

    • Ozito 18V Li-Ion kit

      Umm, not sure… :p

      • 20m lead included?

      • +1

        Thanks. I'm still in bed.lol

      • Ozito is only for home use, they're ok for what your paying.

        • I'd be interested to hear how you know this Hilal, and with such conviction; as I recall, you stated a little while back that you were only 12 years old? ;)

  • top notch post. If I hadn't recently bought a nice makita cordless drill driver I'd be in the car now.

    • +1

Its a good thing you bought the Makita then. : ) I once bought a NiCad 18V Ozito as i had left my makita on another building site a long way away, and thought i would just keep the Ozito for a backup. I ended up using it a couple of times and threw it out.

This Makita drill is the best value cordless drill available imho

    • what - you sold the car to buy the makita driver?

  • Warranty: 3 Year Replacement :)

Im going to try my luck in NSW

    Thanks OP :)

  • Awesome deal. Just the drill is 79 bucks

  • +6

it's on promo nationally guys until 02-09

    • I mean at all Bunnings stores in Australia

  • +1

Good deal compared to usual prices but I've found Ozito to be garbage. My Ozito drop saw nearly cut my arm off when the saw bracket snapped mid way through a cut (pine).

As you suggest though if you keep your receipt and get three years out of these tools as a DIY er gotta be happy with that.

    • +1

Not the first time I've heard of a product purchased from Bunnings that tries to kill you…

  • Great deal, will be picking one up this week, thanks OP!

  • +1

Save your money and buy something decent for a little more

    Ozito = Ozcrappo

    • +2

I bought a corded $34 Ozito drill and it lasted for 6 months before blowing up - which is excellent considering I used it almost every day whilst building (dropped it off ladders constantly, coated it in stud adhesive etc). At this price, it's not like you are committing to a Great Wall 4x4 or something…

      • +1

I've had a corded Ozito $30 drill for over 5 years, used it in two house renovations, gets used fortnightly for the odd job and it still goes strong. It sparks up a fascinating little light show (nothing dangerous) when you first start using it at full bore, but its never failed me and I can thoroughly recommend them for DIY use.

      • @Daewoo you should have taken them up on their 2 year (or was it 5?) warranty :-)

        • The thought did cross my mind, however the drill was caked in green and white stud adhesive (almost beyond recognition). Not worth the time and petrol. Then again, this is OzBargain…

  • Great deal for a 4 pc kit with a 3 year warranty . For the odd job around the home, its a bargain.

Just picked a set up. Most bunnings will have this at $99.

They are good tools if you use them once every couple of months to put together some Ikea furniture or to do really light duty work, the type of work that does not justify spending $400 on a proper (single) tool. Of course, you start using Ozitos to put together a hard wood fence, the drill will crap out and shit its gearbox. It's just for really amateur DIY use. Horses for courses.

    Edit:
    - The drill is a single speed drill. So it is no comparison to a proper drill with a low and high gear.
    - The impact driver is similar to most 1/4" drive drivers. Compared to the old Ozito 12V NiCd version, this new one is much better and feels like it has more torque eventhough they are both rated at 120 Nm.
    - The torch is a single LED, similar to a CREE style unit but not driven at high current. My Lenser T7 running on 4x AAA is MUCH MUCH MUCH brighter than the Ozito.
    - I have not yet had a chance to try the saw out, but it did seem reasonable. I'll test it out when I am trimming some 1" tree branches in a couple of weeks.

    • Single speed drill…so does it have variable speed depending on your trigger pressure?

      • Yes.

      • +1

Yes, you can have variable speed via the trigger, but you don't have the high speed drill gearing.
Ozito 18V drill: 0-500 rpm, max torque 16 Nm. (low torque means it is poor for putting in screws and low RPM means drilling is very slow).

In comparison, a Hitachi 18v drill: 0-400 rpm (low gear), 0-1200 rpm (high gear), max torque 55 Nm. (best of both worlds)

The Ozito can't touch other drills in the same 18V class. So if you are using the drill for very light duty, the Ozito works fine for the cheap sub $50 price that you pay as part of this kit. If you want to do serious work, then you should look at dropping $400-500 for the Hitachi 18V drill.

        • I'm looking for one which is nice and small to work on my car and around the house…the Panasonic range looks pretty good. How'd they rate against Hitachi and Bosch?

        • Excellent price compared to normal selling price. But like sleepycat said, it cannot be compared to good brand tools.
I bought the drill/impact driver kit for $149, but returned it after a couple of weeks because the chuck wobble. Ended up buying Dewalt 10.8v drill/impact, which amazingly have more power and torque compared to 18v Ozito for not much more ($227 from sydney tools ebay shop)

      • You can change the torque on the chuck so I'm guessing that changes the gears.

        • +1

No, the torque setting on the chuck is just the torque limiter. It does not change the gearing to achieve higher drill speeds.

  • +1

Good deal, but rubbish products. I've tried a few different Ozito things (mower, whipper snipper, drill, saw) and ALL of them returned within a week. The mower is flimsy, the whipper snipper didn't feed the line, the drill started smoking and sparking, and the saw felt unsafe. You get what you pay for I guess.

  • +2

Not knocking the deal as I'm tempted myself just for the saw lol.
But why do manufactures always include a Crappy torch in these bundles?
No one that this bundle is marketed for will be drilling or cutting in the dark.

Swap the torch for a sander and that would be a good bundle for the diyer out there.

    • Spot On, Like buying the Knife set with the useless bread knife.

    • Torch is actually quite handy. I use it in roofs, fishing, walking to the powerbox at 4am when the power went out a few nights ago.

  • Sold out at bunnings Marion (SA). And about 10 left at Mile end.

  • My local bunnings (Nunawading Vic) had about 30odd of these this morning. They still had the original price marked, therefore prob why it wasn't selling like hotcakes.
Still had about a dozen left at 4:30pm.

When you bring it to checkout it will scan at $99, cuz i'm guessing bunnings's computer systems are all linked up to a central database.

    • they will have the new labels put on today :)

  • Nice! I wonder what my staff discount will be. (it varies depending on the product)

    • it is on promo below cost price bud so none! :(

      • +1

True. I work at a Trade Centre so they dont have them anyway :/
Havent worked there long so I have no idea about staff discounts haha

  • I was at my local K-Mart today doing a random browse. They have a variety of power tools for $20 (drills, jigsaws, angle grinders etc etc). Might be worth a look if you don't have a Bunnings about/sold out.

Not sure about the build quality, but couldn't be THAT much worse that Ozito.

    • +2

Not sure about the build quality, but couldn't be THAT much worse that Ozito.

      Wanna bet? They're f@*#ing abysmal… ;)

      • +1

Agreed. I got a set of some cheapass tools from Kmart a year ago(like $50 for a grinder, driver, etc) and they sucked big time.

        • +1

Yup. Every single power tool that I've bought from Kmart has gone back for a refund after a single use.

As I recall, the hammer drill didn't even make it through half a dozen holes in some pretty soft masonry before the bearings wore out so badly that the centre spindle was wobbling so the chuck was then orbiting like Pluto!

  • They had a similar pack a few weeks ago but in the Skil brand, Drill, Power saw, Reciprocating saw, torch, 2 18v batteries, charger and carry bag for $99. Pretty cheap and nasty packs but good to have for the little projects.

  • +1

The new SKIL set with 2xLiIon batts and no drill (buy extra for $79 with an additional batt) is great for $149 at Bunnings. Unlike the RYOBI it has only a few items in the SKIL universe, check it out here http://www.skil.com.au/product.php?n=18V%20Combo%20Kit&prodI…

PS: the old kit also on sale has nicads and inc the drill. dont buy that one!!! this is a much better deal than the OZITO, the drill is 2 speed and overall its just much better, warranty is by BOSH i am told instore

    • That's a nice looking set…I don't mind Ozito gear, but just for myself I'd have more use for the circular saw than an impact driver!

Anybody got any current experience with Skil gear? I remember it being decent many years ago, but haven't tried them for myself in literally decades…

  • Grabbed a set from Rosamond Road, (VIC), 2 sets remaining (20/8 - 8.30 AM)

  • Bought this kit around 1 month ago for $179 to build my deck.

Drill is useless too slow. Impact driver was good. 4-5 hour charge time though.

Returned to store and picked up a ryobi 18v 1+ kit instead—- Total different league of tools.

for $99 not bad for impact driver- chances are you will use it for everything and not even use the cordless drill

  • i think its expired now. just saw the new catalogue, its gone back up to $179, so marking it expired.

  • I purchase this a few hours ago from the warrigal rd / moorabbin store (vic) as soon as i asked about it they knew about the kit.

Was marked as $179 i think but once scanned it was $99

They have at least 30+ on the shelf… but they are hidden in a corner i couldn't locate them and had to ask for it.

Purchase for my father for fathers day.. just need to hide it from him now. :)

    • Yep bought one last night from that store too…

  • Sold out @ Coburg Bunnings
    Sold out @ Northlands
    Couple left @ Mill Park
    Couple left @ Craigieburn

Some stores have this deal at $179 but if you mention the $99 deal advertised on the Herald Sun they will honour the $99 advertised price.

  • FYI I bought this at bunnings Tuggeranong ACT today for $99 so the deal is not expired, they had heaps left. Big pile in the tool shop and a big $99 sign. Nothing at the Fyshwick store however.

(yes this is despite having none and no idea what I was talking about last weekend.)

  • For those who still want this, I just bought a set from Port Melbourne Bunnings (VIC) for $99. Just need to give them a call before you come. Cheers
