The Sennheiser CX Plus True Wireless Earbuds are on sale for $109 at Officeworks and Amazon, down from their original price of $259. I bought a pair and they have great sound quality for the price, especially when set up with the app. They also support the AptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec, which allows for 24bit-96kHz sound quality if your phone is compatible.

I have one of these. For the price I really like them.
Good noise cancellation and a good fit but they do feel relatively big in your ears.
    Good audio too.

    • +1

If anyone can provide feedback on how would these compare to the Pixel Buds Pro, that'd be appreciated.

    • How would these go under a motorbike helmet? Do they stick out of the ear very far? Thanks

  • Better than Sony?

    • +1

Well the Sony is double the price (assuming you are talking about the XM4)…

But I'll still go with the Sony lol

Buy it once buy it right. Sony is unbeatable at its current asking price.

      • +6

I'd have to kindly disagree with mg_k

        • +3

i as well will be on team nereus

      • +4

Buy it once is not the Ozbargain way! 😆

      • +2

I had the Sony XM4's and was really disappointed after all the hype. Sure the sound quality is very good, but the ANC was not usable for me. Try going for a run with ANC on and you hear a loud "thunk" with every foot strike. Also found them terrible when it was windy. And try eating with ANC on, it makes a weird tinny sound every time you bite something with a bit of crunch.
Pretty sure it wasn't just a bad set either because I returned the first set and the replacement was exactly the same. I had to return mine in the end. I can't believe more people aren't picking up on these issues? Maybe I just have very sensitive hearing?

        • it makes a weird tinny sound every time you bite something with a bit of crunch.

That isn't present in some pairs, it's just luck of the draw. I got mine replaced after opening due to that.

        • +1

Try going for a run with ANC on and you hear a loud "thunk" with every foot strike.

I have same problem with Bose. Must be a problem with ANC. Use senheiser Momentum TWS1 for running.

          • @Commenter: I believe it's because ANC creates a strong seal in the ear canal, meaning vibrations when running reach your ear and cause the thump.

        • Yep hate mine for exercising, alright for TV and just chilling but any exercise like mountain biking, wind noise is crazy and any jarring action they sound terrible. I had galaxy buds plus and they were brilliant as they had no ANC but I lost them and can't buy now. So sad

      • +3

Politely disagree especially in the case of earbuds. At this point earbuds are more of a recurring expenditure rather than one time investment. The small batteries mean they deteriorate quicker than large headphones, not to mention losing one of the buds, your dog chewing it up etc.

  • +3

    $103.55 (black) at Amazon!

      • Those are CX with passive noise cancelling, the deal is for CX Plus with active noise cancelling.

      • -1

No active noise cancellation for the JB ones, but why would you need it? They're already isolating headphones and all the ANC does is cut your low end out and affects your audio quality anyway.

        • +6

Why wouldn't you fork out $5 more for the option to use it?
Active noise cancelling on a plane or public transport is a godsend.

          • @fatpizza: Uses more battery and if you seal up the tips well enough you can't hear a thing. ANC changes the audio you hear as well to cancel out the noise

            • +1

@boomslung: Did active noise cancelling kick your dog or something?
If you seriously think passive noise cancelling does anywhere near the same job as active when you're on a plane etc. then either:
              A) You've not used headphones with semi-decent ANC.
              B) You're just being stubborn for no reason.
Sure, there's a minor hit to audio quality when turning it on, but that's kind of irrelevant when you're in a noisy environment where the ambient noise severely impacts your listening experience anyway.

If you don't like it turn it off. $5 extra for the option is a fantastic deal for when someone might prefer to use it some time.

              • @fatpizza: People with a different opinion than you aren't being stubborn or personally offended by your opinion. Grow up and learn to disagree. I have posted an alternative with an alternative point of view. In my view, ANC disrupts audio and isolation is good enough. In your view ANC has murdered my family and I have some sort agenda against it.

                • -1

@boomslung: If you don't like it, that's why it's optional.
I just think it's a much better deal to spend $5 more to have the option.
I was never looking to turn this into anything closely resembling a serious debate. It's just that yes, with the lengths you were going to justify your opinion you did seem to have an agenda.
If you didn't, then fine. Either way, we're obviously not getting anywhere so I think it best we both leave it here.

If you want aptX, these are the best under $100 imo. I have Sony XM4, and have tried Bose, Soundcore A40, Tozos, Soundpeats, Baseus M2 (which aren't bad for $50 if the connection wasn't trash) and have returned them all. The Earfun Air Pros are the only ones I kept as a backup for my Sonys.

Edit: I haven't tried the ones listed, but they look huge

    • +1

They certainly don't look too shabby!

      • +1

They're great, I've been using them exclusively for everything—podcasts, music, movies—for about 2 weeks. Super light and comfortable. The Sonys are bulky in comparison and still fall out of my ears even after buying $40 Comply tips, I got Spinner tips but haven't tried them yet (but not as bad as the XM3s, those were terrible).

I got the Earfuns for $67.48 on 11 May when I was drunk browsing Amazon. So you can get them for half price if you catch it at the right time.

        • Looks interesting.

Do think they would offer any real ear protection? -43dB is quite a claim in noise reduction (NRR)

    • What's the Bluetooth range like?

      • can walk into the backyard behind 3 walls 10m+ away before it starts to cut out

  • I have these and really like them..however I bought a new set and the case is noticably lower build quality. The earphones themselves do seem just as good though.

  • +3

had these and they are definitely not for everyone. they are just way too big, and uncomfortable in the ears. got them after reading quite a few positive reviews, but bottom line is take them with a grain of salt. they were not designed with human beings in mind, so will suit some, but not everyone

    • +1

Not designed for human beings 😂 I love this review

      • I mean come on!

in what square shaped orifice they are designed to be shoved into

it's been a while since I've seen a human ear that is fit to accept this plug of shame

        • +1

I have these and they sit perfect for me. Been using them for work all the time.

          • @maverickjohn: well, I had these too. honestly, I tried, I gave them 2 good weeks as I kinda liked the audio output.

but in the end, they just kept falling out whatever tips I used, and felt uncomfortable without pause. so there's that

            • @shabaka: They suck for ms teams. Accidental touch ends the call. Noise cancellation is incredible. I can't hear anything beyond the music/conversation in ear phones. I don't think there's a difference in size but mine are the SE variation is cx plus

    • +1

Perhaps you might only like the stem design headphones. I personally find that any TWS earbuds without a stem are too heavy and unergonomic to wear for a long period of time. Compared to AirPods Pro, Bose QCII etc where the stem does not sit in your ear and the headphones feel lighter and also less occlusion/thumping etc.

  • dang I just opened my new soundcore space A40 last night. how are these in comparison?

I did online and the A40s came better?
    https://versus.com/en/anker-soundcore-space-a40-vs-sennheise…

what is aptX anyway? my older soundcores have them

    • aptX is just a BT codec, like Sony's LDAC. These are a lot better than the A40s: https://www.amazon.com.au/EarFun-Air-Pro-Cancelling-Multipoi… I've owned both

      • How many devices do the earfuns connect to?

        • Multipoint, so 2 at the same time. I can't remember if A40s have Multipoint

    • Do these support aptX HD as that is the codec that goes head to head with Sony’s LDAC.
And was in the XM3 but removed from XM4 and XM5 - does anyone know please?

      • Yep they support AptX HD from what I've read

  • +1

I've been daily driving these for 6 months now, this is a killer deal.

Good sound quality and noise cancellation. The app also lets you connect to different devices and saves them in a list for quick switching.

They're no Airpod Pro's but for 100 bucks you get a whole lot of functionality.

    • How many different devices can it connect to?

      • Documentation says it'll save up to 6 devices in the list.

  • They look enormous

    • I watched a Youtube review where they said the case size is large, I worry about this too as I keep them in my pocket at all times.

  • I had them and returned a day later via Amazon as I found the bass to be a joke. And uncomfortable.. but mainly sound was very disappointed for music and decent bass!! Found the top line LG ones just as rubbish, the same useless bass and returned too. So amazingly have stuck with $60 soundpeeats air 3. Better bass and much more comfy as aren't full in ear butnye ye I get no ANC but I don't use public transport so I don't care.

    • I reckon huge price drop as they so ordinary. Doesn't surprise me. I was shocked as.lqxk.of quality sound from Sennheiser however

    • -1

      bass to be a joke

This isn't descriptive enough. I am assuming it was too bass heavy for you?

If you like the bass of a semi in ear (Air 3), then you obviously don't like much bass.

"Better Bass" on a semi in Ear? Lol. I don't think you know how bass works best in earphones.

By the way, the sennheiser's EQ can be easily adjusted in the app, you are missing out on great sound that you can tune to your liking.

      • +3

Nismo..a joke . ie pathetic. Non existent ! with all the settings and their app I tried everything, even tweaking it in my ph and music players..

Fit, too uncomfortable.. I get what you're saying about the In ear thing yeah totally understand obviously deeper bass expected with a tighter fit but even that was more uncomfortable for my ears (all size tips) and just didn't produce a better bass depth of sound at all! but just couldn't get into it and that's why I find it funny that the cheaper soundpeats have more noticible bass and are way more comfortable as don't push deep into your ear. Each to their own I guess!

        • I think there was also a bass boost button in the app. Ok, sorry I thought you meant it was too much bass!

I have the CX version (and about 15 pairs of earphones 🫢), basically the same but without ANC and although they aren't too big for my massive ears, they do get uncomfortable easily.

I usually have the problem where L size ear tips aren't big enough.

I do recall having to mess around with the EQ more than I would like to get a decent sound out of them. I am a bass lover, depends on what I'm listening to though.

      • They probably didn't have a good seal, or they like artificially bloated bass.

I would assume by joke they mean there isn't enough bass.

        • Yeah, a strong point of mine is reading things the wrong way 🤦‍♂️

        • Very likely not a good fit/seal. I have the previous gen (no ACN) and also thought the bass was severely lacking - until I played around with the different silicon earbuds to get a good seal and the sound/bass improved drastically.

  • I don’t think anyone bought these at rrp. They have been on sale before for mid 100s

    • yeah agree, been watching them for ages and def floated around $150's

  • Do these come with the rubber stabilizer fins like Momentum 3 ?

  • pass this time for me, i just bought some cheaper ones that are also noise cancelling

  • +1

Tried a lot of earphones. These were my favourite. I put them above airpods, Sonys and a bunch of Samsungs and other cheapies I've tried. Only drawback for me was that they didn't sit too well in ear. Airpods are still king in that regard.

  • WHY SO BIG? That's what she said.

  • Is the cable USB C ?

    • yes

  • even cheaper for $89 at

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/314602127079?chn=ps&_ul=AU&norov…

ad header and the picture do not say it's a Plus model but the product description says it's a Plus version.

Free pick up otherwise $9.70 postal cost, need to count this.

    • +4

Not from a retailer, not new out of the box. No warranty, no invoice, no returns, no guarantees it is not damaged or broken in some way.

You would have to be crazy to forfeit all of those things on a $100 pair of headphones for $9

    • I would highly doubt its the Plus model. In fact everything I can see just says CX. Title, description, photo.

      Where are you seeing Plus?

  • How do these compare to samsung kidney shaped live buds..

  • Anyone know of earbuds that have as much bass as a headphone or am I dreaming?

  • Dont fit well, the compatibility between the earbuds and the phone is also annoying, if you get a call or join a voice call on an app, it gets confused and you need to end calls and join calls to fix things or disconnect bluetooth and reconnect.
Other then that, mine went faulty after 3 months, 1 of them started squealing which I was told my repairer was a common fault.

Prior to these had the Jabra Elite 75T which I would prefer over the Sennheisers.
Right now have the Bose Quietcomfort II and I would recommend spending more money over these Sennheisers, a friend told me before I bought the Sennheisers they were a bad fit but I never had issues with bad fits, until I bought these. One of the other comments mention it, they have not considered the fit in the design, very bulky and not balanced in weight.

  • +1

Bought these from CEX for $80 they were "like new"

But basically not used in packaging.

Great sound and isolation imo. I use spinfit earbuds to go with them. The first earbuds i can use for hours (very small ear canals)
