Nature's Own 1500mg Odourless Fish Oil 600 caps @ ChemistWarehouse $28.99 (3.2c per 1000mg)

100

Saw this in the current Chemist Warehouse catalogues. Order myself a few of these online with free shipping(order> $99). Odourless at 3.221c per 1000mg is almost the same price point as the none odourless.
I think this is a bargain.

  • All the diff brands of vitamins/supplements at chemist warehouse get discounted significantly at different times.

  • Bought pretty much the exact deal a few months ago and the best before date was sometime in 2014 . Shipping was reasonaby fast (for W.A.) .

  • 1500mg, damn… I have trouble swallowing 1000mg :o

  • I get 200 x 2000mg on special for $15 at Coles. Works out to 3.75c/1000mg, but it's much more convenient taking half the pills, if you can swallow the increased size.

Priceline have the cheapest fish oil. $10 = 400 x 1000mg caps all day every day.

  • is vitacost cheaper still? dr mercola said fish would be unsustainable if we all took their oil. krill is sustainably harvested apparently and will not be extinct

Rancid (oxidised) oil is one of the most dangerous things you can consume in any quantity. It causes cascading free radical damage in the body. The heat involved in the production of fish oil supplements means an inevitable degree of rancidity from the get-go with further deterioration as it sits on the shelf.
I read a test report on fish oil about a year ago and a number of batches of certain brands failed the standard test for oxidation level. They were tested well before their best before dates.
The upshot is that you want oil supplements to be as fresh as possible and unless you are in a family where several people are taking several capsules a day, buying 1800 capsules in one go really isn't a very good idea - even if you keep the bulk in the fridge. Just 600 is alot too.
I know this is Ozbargain, but I buy the 200 cap bottle of these (although not the odourless variety)(I personally find very little difference between them) and they're regularly - about every 5 or 6 weeks - on special at either Coles or Woolies for somewhere between $9.99 and $11.99. Good enough I reckon. I occasionally buy two bottles in one go and put one in the fridge. Certainly haven't needed to buy them at full price for yonks.
