So we should buy these books and burn them to keep ourselves warm? :P

  • +3

Great books… beware of spoilers and don't Google anything. Not even character names.

    • +3

There are TOO many character names to remember……

      • +7

        Hodor..Hodor.. HODOR!

      • +2

Don't try. It's not like you need to really get attached to any of them….for more than 1 or two books.

      beware of spoilers

      • +1

they should ban you … totally spoiled the whole thing for me and ive already read all the books… :P haha

      • It's safe to click, as long as you haven't seen The Usual Suspects yet

A truly magnificent series! Freaking brilliant.

    OP, you win the interwebz!

Just noticed the 50 Shades of Grey in the background. Jeez, wouldn't want to pick up "amateur S&M manual/housewife fantasy" by accident.

Also, maybe they kept it there so that George RR Martin's storytelling skills rub off on E.L.James.

      • +9

Yeh, that's just what 50 Shades needs - some incest.

        • +3

Ssshhh… you'll give her ideas for another sequel. Not that she needs that IMHO, the /btards from 4chan could give her enough inspiration to excrete out another gazillion books. :P

It started as wrestling I swear!

Awesome post for an awesome series.

Although I hate that I've seen this since I've just recieved my order from book depository for ~$56. Doesn't help that I'm going to Costco tomorrow.

Why doesn't George R. R. Martin use Twitter?

Because he can't limit himself to 140 characters!

    • +7

      It's funny because https://twitter.com/GeorgeRRMartin

Sorry if you guys already knew that.

      • +2

hahahahaha all those followers 0 tweets and 0 follows …

    • +1

I have read 2 books so far, and I think he still has some catching up to do with Robert Jordan, who was still introducing dozens of new characters in book 12.

  • +5

What ever you do don't Google the actress who played Shae at work ;p

    • +1

You mean Sibel Kekilli, former porn actress?

      • +3

BLah, have to ruin the surprise didn't you…

    • That's awesome

  • Good deal
Cheapest online is around $58 www.booko.com.au/products/9780007477159

  • What books are split? I have the first 5 as a 6 book set.

    • Looks like they've split "A dance with dragons" too.

    • +1

"A Storm of Swords" and "A Dance with Dragons" have been split into 2 books each.

      • I think the American version was. Both of mine were bought in Australia as single books

  • +2

It's a great series… although based on track record you probably should wait about 10 years to read these! By that time the last 2 books of the series should be written! Otherwise you end up like the rest of us… annoyed that he doesn't write fast enough!

    • +3

Or hope Martin doesn't pull a Robert Jordan on everyone…

      • Or a Frank Herbert.
Although I'm not sure if GRRM has any kids.

        • Oh yes, the future ASOIAF books written by his son from his 'very own notes!' with contributions by Kevin J Anderson. Kill me now.

        • Christopher Tolkien says "hi" :-)

      • He's over 70 years old, morbidly obese, diabetic and writes like a tortoise. It's only a matter of time folks.

    • "you probably should wait about 10 years to read these"
But they do improve on re-reads. The subtleties stand out more. e.g. "Oh, so that was <character>", and "I know where this is going, and I didn't see the set up back then."

    • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7lp3RhzfgI I believe this is appropriate.

So sad for the poor trees that had to die for all those 50 Shades of Grey books in the background.

    • Melisandre would be happy.

  • +2

    It is known.

  • Watched the tv series first, gained an interest in the story, bought the bookset a while back (this is a great price).. half way through the first book and it is drawing me back to it and filling in heaps of extra detail from the tv series, will be great to watch it again after the book knowing the story so much better.

SPOILER: The guy dies at the end!!!

(j/k: don't even know what this book is! - just had to say that!)

  • +1

So clarification on the series of books…
How many are there currently? And how many more to come?

    • 5 in hardcover, but 7 in paperback.
      2 more to come…allegedly.

  • +1

Had to stock them right next to '50 shades of grey' Ugh.

No respect, stacking that filth alongside ASoIaF. :X

  • Sold out at Canberra Costco.

    • Just letting canberrans know, Costco Canberra has these back in stock, as at midday today around 175 units on their computer with around 50 units available on the floor.
      Got mine now :)

      • I can confirm this, except they told me stock level is now 118 units at 1.45pm :)

The Hunger Games trilogy at $25 is also a good deal next to it ;)
