(legal in VIC, WA, NT, QLD, ACT & TAS)

leaves just two region having it as illegal. Thanks government here for not fulfilling your promise to look into matter.

      Always forgetting SA :P

      • NSW ?? also

        • +1

Could have sworn you said one state. Did you ninja edit.

          • +1

@Clear: yes I said one state earlier (referring to SA labour government earlier), then realized NSW missing in that too

You got my ninja edit haha

            • +2

@USER DC: Thought so. A shame about NSW as Sydney has a lot of really good bike lane infrastructure.

              • @Clear: I saw a person using it in Penrith the other day.. I thought it became legal here

    • NSW is undertaking a trial. I ride mine with the kids and theirs on the bike path and even footpath (at hugely reduced speeds) and both council rangers and NSW police have never raised a concern. I guess like life, it's the few crazies who ruin it for the masses.

  • +7

NSW government still thinking about a way to tax these before they allow it

    • -7

Simple. Require registration and licensing. Require showing a license plate and enforce those that ride these have insurance for the damage and injuries they cause to themselves and others.

      • +2

I assume you probably feel the same for bikes.

  • +1

    Hey can these do skids?

  • Whats the health condition of the battery in these?

    • Same rules with : dont buy 2nd hand electric car

      • This is a misguided "rule" that's entirely out of date.

With the exception of some specific early EV models (eg first generation Nissan Leaf) most EV batteries have proven far more durable than predicted. Current models will outlast most wearing components of a petrol car in normal use, with a useful lifespan that should exceed 300,000km.

    • If they were in bad condition Segway would have replaced them.

      • Friendly reminder Segway exists in name only now. The seller is Ninebot and wouldn’t trust them to do anything.

Ninebot was sued by Segway for patent infringements. Ninebots solution to this? Buy Segway. Absolute scumbag company.

        • Ninebot was sued by Segway for patent infringements. Ninebots solution to this? Buy Segway

that is a genius business move.

          • @pinkybrain: Sure. Don't innovate, just steal. Get caught throw money around. If Huawei had the money they could of just brought Cisco too.

            • @PainToad: that's how most business work.
If they are big fish and there is smaller fish startup or competitor that can be a threat, then they buy them up.

Just look at all the companies that have done this.
              Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Apple

Why would they need to innovate?
Owning the IP/patents is more faster, easier especially if they are already using the same patents/IP in their products.
Owning the patent, also means others would have to pay them to use those patents.

If Huawei had the money they could of just brought Cisco too.

              unlikely to occur
cos US Government would block it.

              • @pinkybrain: The buy out isn’t the issue. It’s the ripping off the patents in the first place.

Just how Huawei stole source code from Cisco.

  • If only these are okay in nsw i would have bought one longggg time ago

  • The laws where I live can only have scooters up to 25kms top speed, this is 30. I wonder how they check that kind of stuff because I'd really like to buy this.

    • Top speed is 25km/h on this. It can be unlocked using 3rd party tools to make it go faster.

      • Tools to go faster is a good idea. However the law states the scooter says: "The scooters are not allowed on footpaths and must not travel at more than 20kph, while only one person is allowed on board at a time.E-scooters capable of travelling at more than 25kph remain banned and riders must follow the same blood alcohol content and drug rules as drivers.

So it says if they are capable of over 25kms are banned. But I don't think they would check this if you're going the speed limit of 20 on a road. Even if you're going 25kms, they probably wouldn't pick you up…. and if they do they probably wouldn't check to see if it's somehow capable of 30kms.

Let me know your thoughts everyone :D

        • Yeah so this still falls within that Victorian law. Out of the box it goes 25km/h max speed.

          I said 3rd party for a reason.

          • @Clear: Oh so 30kms is just when you unofficially tinker with it?

          • @Clear: Also mate, do you know any non motrised scooters that are decent speed with a bit of elbow grease. Do the ones with bigger wheels go faster than say the kid type ones that have smaller rollerblade type wheels?

            • @bailbondsh: It's not advertised as doing 30km anywhere. I'm sure a 3rd party firmware could make it go that fast.

Unfortunately I don't follow the old school scooter space and have no recommendations.

          • @Clear: Also, would you think Refurbished are worth the risk?

            • +1

@bailbondsh: Factory refurbs are pretty good and it comes with a 1 year warranty.

        • Let me know your thoughts everyone :D

My thoughts are if you injure someone after illegally modifying your vehicle I hope they sue you for everything you’ve got.

If you injure yourself, you shouldn’t be entitled to any tax payer funded health care.

Do what you do but the cops are watchiing more than you think.

    • 30km is the range!

    • Literally saw police using speed guns on a FTA news article the other day and fining people on the spot for exceeding.

  • -1

Did they bother to scrub the blood off as part of the refurbishment?

  • unless I am missing something - this seems a decent price. They are around $400-$700 second hand and that often means zero warranty.

Should anything stop me ordering one?

    • Not me bro you're good to go but appreciate you checking in.

      • Someone may give some sort of advice regarding the seller or the scooter model etc

        • It was a bad joke but the only thing that's mentioned and that I can think of would be the battery maybe? Electronics and electric motors are pretty solid as far as I know these days.

Maybe check if the battery could be replaced on that one and then if I lived in suburbia I know I would probably go for it myself.

  • Hope it's a good one! I thought it a good deal so I've bought one. Thanks Clear

  • Ended up buying one.

    My thought patter;
*They sell used between $300-$700, so I can always sell it if I don't like it.
*As says Segway refurbished it, so I'd imagine that's trusted
*This may be a fun commenting toy and useful if I go to the office in summer (office is about 5km away)
    *seems legal in WA

  • Anyone know any non motrised scooters that are decent speed with a bit of elbow grease. Do the ones with bigger wheels go faster than say the kid type ones that have smaller rollerblade type wheels?

  • mine arrived and doesnt charge past a certain percentage :-(
