  • Aren't these illegal to use in the public (or at least in SA)?

    • +9

SA and NSW are still behind the times.

    • +10

      Legal in VIC.

      • -1

Only if is can do no faster than 25km/h

        • +2

          So, legal in VIC.

          • -1

@Clear: No if they are capable of faster than 25km/h, as all three of these are capable of well in excess then they are not legal.

As for the validity of software speed limiting???

            As per Vicroads
"it’s not a high-speed e-scooter – capable of more than 25km/h (this is considered an unregistered vehicle and penalties apply)"

            • +3

@singlemalt72: All three of these have a max speed of 25km/h. You're confusing range if you haven't read the post properly.

              • -1

@Clear: Ah, yes, they have a software limitation to make them legal.

though I suppose many will simply flash an overseas firmware to get around that.

          • -2

@Clear: It also need to have a motor less than 200w for it to be considered legal (unless this classification has recently changed)

            • +1

              @Soldier: That's changed.

            • +1

@Soldier: They removed the power limit and instituted 25km/h limit, though the max speed you can ride is 20 km/h

    • +3

      Legal in QLD.

  • +1

    this or 4070 Ti?

    • +2

      Whichever's faster.

  • +2

Me and my roommate's scooter were stolen near central station NSW (both were locked). And there are multiple security cameras around the location. And it's been a year since we reported to the police.
    Still no word from them.
I just don't have any confidence in buying a bike or scooter anymore.

    • How did you have them secured?

      • With a lock bought from Amazon
        https://amzn.asia/d/5t4iOMy

        • Urgh. Zero effectiveness security theatre locks.

If you do it again, look up what bicycle users in cities like New York or San Francisco rely on.

The lock you posted is similar to what is used on my bikes, in a low crime suburb. Behind two sets of security doors.

(Hint, for starters riders in those cities don't leave thousand dollar bikes alone in public, even if they have motorcycle locks)

          • @rumblytangara: hard to find that type of parking arrangement tbh… best is to bring it into the office if you're working in the city. But it's always a difficult conversation to have with your boss/practice manager/office admin.

    • +1

Unfortunately they're always going to be a target given the value. I'll never leave mine locked up anywhere out of sight.

I really ought to get this installed sometime.

      • Will the police even care if there is a gps or not
Or you going to get your scooter yourself.

        • +4

They suddenly care when you tell them you're going to get it yourself if they don't come.

          • @Clear: Good one

            • +2

@Sigmund Freud: God I hate freeloading thieves.. best to use a really heavy cable and bolt cutter proof lock..

          • +1

@Clear: We start an ozbagain bikie gang, except with scooters.

Thats a nice phone you got there. Be a shame if it lacked NFC

    • Same here in Brisbane. My scooter and colleagues scooter got stolen from the CBD within a few months of each other. CTTV footage everywhere police couldn't care less it has made me not want to buy another scooter.

    • Sad! But isn’t these things illegal in NSW ?

    • +1

No lock will be secure enough. I am around Central Station too, never leave my scooter alone in the public, the reason I got these is they are foldable and small (Max G30) so I can carry them everywhere.

Cameras or not, it does not worth their effort to work on it, from personal experience.

    • get a sold secure gold-rated d-lock from a reputable brand like abus, hiplok or kryptonite. but best not to leave it at any train station

      • D-locks can work with scooters? Maybe they do, but they're pretty clearly designed for bicycles (rear wheel, triangle, and a stationary post).

    • I've hidden an Apple AirTag within the floor shell of my ninebot, works great! Just need to replace the battery every year…

Or you could get something like this: https://www.amazon.com.au/LAKKIT-Reflectors-Adjustable-Compa…

  • +1

will probably return mine to Jeff Bezos and pick up the Ultra. No dual motor but whatever, has dual suspension and i'm familiar with Xiaomi. At least it's RWD like a proper sports car

    • What do you currently have?

      • Scooter 3. commute has a really steep up hill unfortunately and it's not enough to tackle it

        • Thanks. May I ask, how are you going to return the current one to Amazon? I assume it's used, right?

          • +1

@pizzaguy: yes it's used. they are generally lenient with returns if it's within one year, but you will have to tell them the fault and you usually won't be required to adduce evidence.

mine for example will turn on and off for no reason and i happen to have a video of it doing it. if they ask for evidence and i will just send them that one.

  • Segway has terminated their agreement with panmi/luckymi. I doubt the new distributor will honour warranty for the old stock sold by Panmi…

    • +3

You'll still have warranty. It suddenly doesn't disappear when distributors change hands - that's not how it works. The service centres certainly aren't going anywhere soon either.

      • have my eye on the GT1, better get it from the new segway au site for peace of mind.

Shame JB does not carry GT any more. They are much better to deal with than the "service centres".

    • +2

Yes they are under warranty for sure. And if you are from Directed you should mark yourself Associated as a competiter….

  • Xiaomi scooter 4 looks very similar. Is it worth twice the price.

    • The first image is wrong.

      • Yeah 1st image is the ultra
