RMW: For when your Super hits your Savings

  • +5

Awesome deal but I must resist… definitely do not need a passport holder lol

    • +6

Buy a $25 passport holder so you can justify a $5000 international trip somewhere

    • +3

Seems like something everyone would need?? Not a fan of those cheap travel passport holder things. A good quality leather one will look good and last for years to come. Bargain at $15.

      • +17

The plastic cover that comes with the $350+ Aus passport (which by the way is the most expensive in the world) is just as good and it’s basically free

        • +1

I don't even use that cos it is rather inconvenient to remove/reinsert each time you need to use it. I just throw it in the luggage/laptop bag and hope for the best.

          • @t25: Get one of these. You don't have to remove the passport: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BBZQY5PP

            • @bio: Looks pretty slim, but I wonder if the machines would read it without issues.

As you know, most if not all immigration counters will request you remove passport covers regardless.

              • @t25: Ah, that might be true. I'll see in a few weeks.

        • +1

You wouldn't believe it… but despite the price we pay they've gotten rid of that now.

Over the years it was downsized from bifold to a sleeve, then simplified (one plastic instead of 2 - all clear instead of blue+clear)… now gone completely.

          • @odysseus: I got my passport made in January 2020. Received it just as the world was starting to lockdown. So I still got the useless sleeve.

      • +2

Used to average about 9-10 trips a year for over a decade… have never used a passport holder. Just adds unnecessary bulk.

And the last thing you want to be carrying with a passport is stuff like credit cards. Credit cards = frequent access. Passport should only be handled at the airports to minimise risk of misplacing one. I've always seen them as accessories for people who like accessories, or for people who haven't really streamlined their travel process.

If we do travel as a family, we just toss the passports into a plastic pouch from a stationary store. It can also hold national ID cards, frequent flyer cards. The stuff that you need at the airport and nowhere else.

        • If only there were a product that could hold national ID cards, frequent flyer cards AND your passport all together. The stuff that you would need at the airport and nowhere else.

          • +2

@devize: Yeah, reinforced plastic zipped bag. Less bulk, waterproof, and can hold enough documents for a family.

    • +8

      I use a ziplock bag.

      It's small, lightweight, and waterproof.

      Plus very much affordable.

      • +1

Looks appealing too to those with a plastic/rubbish fetish.

        Not judging, just saying. lol

        • We'll, the key for us when traveling is to ensure that our documents are safe.

Having used a ziplock bag for multiple travels over the last 10 years, it's too easy not to use it.

  • Ty OP, got the wallet

  • Thanks OP and @agalea101
Got the wallet and passport holder

  • Thanks OP, got 2 passport holders

  • -1

Thanks OP, got 5. Good for gifts.

  • am looking at the bifold holder.
can it hold 4 passports comfortably?

    • +1

The bi-fold is a wallet. Not a passport holder.

      L9cm x H10cm

  • +21

This is Made in Bangladesh, not Australia. These passport holders were $10 last year at Adelaide RM sales event.

    • Just keeping up with inflation then! ;)

    • +1

oh good to know. Since when RMW making stuff offshore?

      • +4

The old switcheroo, build up a reputation for manufacturing locally then quietly go overseas and charge even more for a lower quality products

      • +2

Pretty much only the boots and the nicer bags are made here

        • This isn’t true, they still make a decent chunk of stuff in Australia. Belts, some of their smaller leather goods and accessories, jeans, shirts, as well as the boots and higher end bags you mentioned.

          https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/made-in-australia/proudly-aust…

          • @BargainGeezer: They brought things back to Australia a couple of years ago - tanning was done in France before that. It's a filthy industry too, tanneries absolutely ruin waterways.

    • Well that's disappointing.. hmm..

Will see how the quality is and decide whether to return under 60 day return policy

      • lol it's $15, just adjust your expectations accordingly.

    • +1

No wonder there's so many on marketplace asking for $50

  • Got the passport holder and the bifold. Thanks!

  • Thanks OP, got one!

  • Got passport holder and Bifold. Thanks OP and @agalea101

  • Thanks OP, very much appreciated.

Do bush drovers do so much international travel they need a passport cover?

  • +2

Off the track. I'm in search of a passport holder for family of 4. Does anyone have one that can be recommended ?

  • Got one, figured its better than any other $15 holder out there.
    Cheers op!

  • Passport cover now out of stock

  • Sold out passport holders

  • Passport Holder OOS

  • For some reasons I can't add it to bag?

    Edit: ah, OOS

  • Yep, looks like the passport holders are gone. Bi-fold is still in stock though

  • +1

Hmmmm ….. says it's in stock but won't add to cart = OOS ;)

  • Why I can’t add to cart ? Sold out already ?

  • I got hit with an OOS message when putting both the bifold and the passport cover on the checkout however, I went through and put the purchase through separately and it worked. (Yes, paid shipping twice… wondering if I can call up and get the two items shipped together and get refunded the $10).

  • Not able to add to bag (android phone). Let me try Desktop.

  • +1

ffs took too long to order the wallet and its now oos too :(

    • In stock again

    Tri-fold wallet available here for $39, I picked one up - https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/urban-small-slim-tri-fold-blac…

  • -6

Why anyone would need this? Everytime you get through border control they'll ask you to remove the cover anyway which is annoying in itself. And pretty much that's the only time you should carry it by your side. Take the passport out of your pocket and proudly flapping it around showing the kangaroo and emu or whatever, (and probably tell everyone how much dfat is ripping you off too) don't hide it undercover unless you're ashamed of your citizenship. Just don't test its waterproofing ability tho.

    • +2

I dont want my passport to get damaged during travel, quite simply really

    • +1

In some countries foreigners are required to carry a passport at all times

  • +3

    back in stock. GOGOGO

    • Thanks

  • (Was $100)

    hahahahahahahahaha

  • +2

just ordered get back on it quick!

  • +1

woohoo, got the passport holder and trifold daily CONSOOM satisfied

  • Back in stock!

  • Cheers OP. Managed to grab one

  • Please all get off the website, you're denial of service on it! :D

  • Why can't I add to cart?

  • Probably OOS given can't add to cart.

  • Yes called and they advised is out of stock and will be taken down shortly. Dam.

  • I've been using this one from Muji but mine doesn't have the ring binder with plastic inserts
    https://www.muji.us/products/passport-case-with-pocket-ohca3…

This one is on sale less than half price at $7
    https://www.muji.us/products/polyester-passport-case-f9s8

  • +2

Just ordered 2, it seems they have got some back in stock.

    • Thanks mate, got one too.

    • Yep I was able to order as well.

  • Thanks op, got 2. As per comment above seems like they restocked.

  • Got 2, thanks!

  • Back in stock. Just got a passport holder.

  • Got 2 thanks OP. Not an impulse purchase either as I’ve been looking for one. New passports don’t come with plastic sleeves anymore.

    • Yeah I was pretty annoyed when I got my new passport and my old one was in tatters. Genuinely got one for this purpose as well.

    • Aussie passports are one of the most expensive in the World IIRC

After the long Pandemic travel embargo you'd think they'd be stocked up with the plastc covers ffs

How much does DFAT charge for one nowadays?

      NVM: $A325 >.<

  • Cheers OP, just grabbed a couple.

  • +1

    In Stock!

  • Its just a passport holder… honestly just get the $2 plastic passport covers.. If you are a frequent user youll be taking them in and out which gets really annoying. But each to their own

  • got 2 as well - thanks OP

edit: actually need 2 for both my paassports. already getting downvoted!!
