just in time, my current chair is about to break!!! NOW, this or HERMAN MILLER?

    • +122

You can't be serious, there is no comparison. ALDI of course.

      • +9

This chair is also part of more plastics to ocean program👍 Definitely Aldi.

        • +6

Not necessarily. It's a dual program. Can go into the local landfill too.

    • +24

For the cost of a single Herman Miller, you could outfit an entire dining room with Aldi chairs.

      • +2

and rest of office with stationary

        • +4

          so nothing moves?

          • +1

@m9: yes, that's how Medicare works!

          • @m9: Yes, if nothing moves, the Aldi chairs are more likely to survive breaking.

    • +9

      $5 bunnings camp chair

      • +3

        They're $7 now.

        • +6

          this bloody world!!

    • +1

HERMAN MILLER if you want to pay 10x more

    • +1

Ahh, somehow I negged you and it won't let me revoke. Sorry! Fat fingers over here.

      • +7

yeah, they removed the function to revert up/down votes.. no worries mate…. it happens to me as well

      • +4

You can revoke. Click the 'votes' next to 'reply', find your neg, then hit the minus button next to it.

        • +1

or you can refer "negvotes" on docs.ozbargain.com.au/negvotes, page 618.

        Username checks out ;)

          • @Dumb Dog: There are many other printers, so brother is not the only option. Secondly, that's a lot of assumptions hence not worth a reply.

Get the Aldi. Then next year when it's on sale again, get the replacement from Aldi.

      • +2

        And (profanity) the planet!

        • -1

          you can't! It's already (profanity)'d!!

      • Can’t wait for the reverse vending machines for special buys

  • +25

Bought this the last time they had stock, complete garbage.
4 months of ownership the back rest gave way.
Couldnt be bothered returning item as I couldnt find receipt.
Im 84kg so not over stressed this chair.

    • +2

      you might need HERMAN MILLER

      • I weigh 75kg and my work Herman Miller Aeron is seat is disintegrating.

        • that's why you gotta be careful where you get it from..

    • +2

And yet it will still get posted next time Aldi flog it off. Aldi’s marketing is great at convincing people their stuff is special.

      • +24

My retired father has an unadmitted hobby where every single week he goes to Aldi to buy one of the Special Buys, and then a month or so later when he realises he has not and will never use it, takes it back.

I am surprised Aldi don’t have a picture of him on the wall so they know not to let him in.

        • +5

LMAO! Imagine getting banned from Aldi!

      • Aldi’s marketing is great at convincing people their stuff is special.

On OzBargain sure. Don't know anyone irl that rates Aldi

    • +5

Yeah I bought one similar a few years ago. Took it back for a refund pretty much straight away.

    • +1

Exact same for me, it also started to bend to one side, so my left butt cheek sits about 2-3 inches lower than my right. Definitely gave me additional back issues. Still using it cause I'm poor, but it's awful.

    • Thanks for the info! Looking for something sub $500 that's nice for wife, needs to be very good.

She's being picky and doesn't like the Howarth Zody…………….

    • Same, within few weeks the seat height couldn't hold its position

  • +4

Bought a couple of these a while ago. They had welds in them that stopped the reclining function. I took to them with an angle grinder. The padding isn't great so I got a foam topper from K-mart. It's also a bit wonky, 1 arm rest fits under my desk and the other goes over the top.

  • Maximum recommended weight: 120kg

    • +17

      Eat less

    • +3

That should be in the user guide for the human body…

      • That might be a bit harsh. Some people have a lot of weight due to medical conditions that they don't necessarily have control over (e.g. hypothyroidism, naturally very low metabolic rate or immobility reducing energy expenditure).

        • I’m not passing moral judgement. Being predisposed to obesity doesn’t make it any less harmful.

  • +3

I'm expecting people to sit up and take notice of this deal

    • 10 on the bench for you

    • I thought they'd pan it.

  • Wow this is very similar to the Onex chair I bought from officeworks for $250 2yrs ago

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/onex-gamin…

    • Bought the same chair 6 months ago. Loving it.

  • The chair is ok but the "head rest" part is useless unless you are a little child or dwarf.

  • This chair no good - no good.

    • +1

      Is good?

      • +2

is no good this one, no good this one.

        • +2

no good you live long, chair ok, price good

          • @DAT: i make chair, i know no good!

      • +2

        It's good, different lol

  • Is this chair better than an IKEA Renberget? Just asking as my Renberget is a bit dirty now (and I haven't bothered to borrow the Britex carpet/upholstery cleaners yet). Thanks!

    • FXXK IKEA. I still remember I bought this chair brand new from them for $15. in 2019…

      • +2

How much did treatment for your back pain add to the price?

    • +1

I Went to town on my old car with one of these babies yesterday.

      https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-18v-cordless-spo…

    • The IKEA chair has absolutely no lower back support. So it will be a big improvement. The problem is the durability

  • +3

Last time they brought one of these out, i got it and it is complete shit. Spend a bit extra and get a decent brand

  • +5

is this the only thing in the world that isn't affected by inflation?

    • +3

Equivalent of paying $85.66 for the 2016 deal.

  • +2

It starts off good, but after 6 months the padding is gone.

  • +1

IMO this is the best office chair you can buy for not much money:
    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark…

    10 year warranty too.

    • Not too many reviews online, would you give 4-5 stars?
      https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/ikea-markus

      • +2

I'm not into giving reviews but all I know is that we have two at home, one about 7yo and the other roughly 5 and both are still in very good condition. I WFH so use mine a lot and find it comfortable enough. I certainly don't experience any back problems. Any criticism would be that the seat is a touch hard but I don't find that to be uncomfortable and it would be good if you could adjust the arm-rests up a bit. Apart from that it's all good.

        • +3

I found the fixed armrest and fixed back support height annoying. It may be a good chair if you are the right size for it.

  • +2

I’ve been using an IKEA Poaeng for years doing WFH and it’s comfy-as! Regularly fit in a quick nap between meetings! 🤣 https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/poaeng-armchair-birch-veneer-kn…

    • +1

Genuine question: do you work on iPad? because I doubt if I can survive 7.5 hours on that chair Mon-Fri.

      • +1

I have 2 laptops (personal and work-issued) on a stand each, both connected via a HDMI switch to a 38 inch wide monitor that’s on an arm. Electric sit / stand desk from IKEA (IDASEN) that’s set at 62cm when on the POAENG. Keyboard and mouse sit on an under desk tray that IKEA used to sell but don’t sell that exact model anymore (it’s been replaced with the BARBEGET which seems not large enough to accommodate both keyboard and mouse). I’m at my desk for hours each day, weekdays for work and weeknights / weekends for part time Uni watching movies. I have arthritis plus chronic lower back pain and this is the best set up I’ve found for myself.

  • Are aldi special buys really bargains? They're not related brands that can be compared for savings. They're simply that price. If it was a particular brand, like herman miller vs herman miller, then yes…. it's a bargain. Just cheap stuff that comes from China

    • Rule of thumb I use is, how does it compare to similar products?

This chair was significantly cheaper than any other I've seen around (and quite possibly for good reason).

I wouldn't want to see every special buy posted here, but some are worth a second look.

  • +1

May I suggest that if you're really going to be using the chair a lot (WFH), then consider getting a chair that has got AFRDI rating, so you know at least how it survived testing/standards.
Also, this only has 12mths warranty - I was browsing officeworks, and they sell chairs with 15 year warranty from $219 (I've got my eye on something at $399, rated for 8+hrs a day).
Of course, you might be fine to live with a cheaper chair and change for a new one more frequently.

  • For kids in primary school it is okay, but not for adults. Got one for my son and it is good for the next 2 years before he gets to heavy for it or it breaks.

  • +2

    As found on Alibaba.

    • Haha, brilliant.

I've bought exactly one cheap 'Aldi Specials' product and when it arrived, thought that it was probably overpriced for how crap it was.

ALDI Special just gives off Kmart Anko vibes, but possibly worse.

  • +1

Grabbed this one a few months back and its been great. High use 8+ hours per day WFH x3 days per week, no issues and very comfortable.

  • When is this coming to the stores? The link doesn't go to the product.
