It sure does suck having cash back offers exclusive to who you bank with.

    • +6

No different from the AMEX deals?

    • +1

does it also suck having different loans and interest rates depending on who you bank with?

      • +3

Not really relevant to a (once bank agnostic) cash back website.

        • +3

it's not like this SB rolled a dice and decided to bless Westpac out of generosity…. it's a novel customer acquisition strategy funded by Westpac. Other banks chose not to do it this way.

          • +5

            @xrailgun:

Other banks chose not to do it this way.

            ANZ and Cashrewards???

    • +4

Only really got yourself to blame for missing out these days with the ability to open accounts online and easily manage and transfer funds between different banks instantly via PayID.

    • +1

sure enough SB is only reason why I still got my westpac CC open for so so long, man. the partnership is very good, that I am stupidly enough considering to pay annual fee of CC, rather than continuing with their Debit card option. (I dont really like debit cards unless its to like avoid surcharges in store like at ald! or other places)

      • There's a hands-off way to avoid the debit card/Westpac Choice fee.

        1) Setup a recurring monthly transfer of $2000 into Westpac account
        2) Setup a recurring monthly transfer of $2000 into original account

If you're a hardcore investor/prefer offsetting your mortgage, then a Westpac card isn't worth it.

        • I just transfer $500 in/out/in/out. You don't need $2k sitting being inflated away.

        • Are there really no options that dont have that fee but can be used for shopback?

          • @Grazz989: The only 100% free option is the debit account for <30y/os.

To apply, search for "Westpac Choice" and apply as someone under the age of 30. I can't remember the exact name for it, but the website's instructions are quite clear.

If you're older then 30, then you've no choice but to "pay" for a card.

Honestly, I don't spend enough money at Amazon to justify keeping my Westpac Choice open - the prices are generally higher than Ebay/Aliexpress. I'd much rather put my money into a high interest savings account or an offset.

  • Dang just bought an item of amazon yesterday, asked GYB too on forum, may be he was too busy. Now cancellation not possible. hopefully amazon can take item back during shipment ??

    • -3

Just refuse to accept the delivery and it will go back for a refund typically

      • +1

Not always home, and definitely not on the projected delivery date in afternoon.

Even if I was home, the guy just drops package, takes photo and leaves, no knocking or door bell ringing. Talked to amazon CS, they said to contact them when order is shipped they might be able to help out then not now though

Edit: Nevermind just read - Westpac bonus Cashback is ineligible on 0% Cashback categories So likely would not have had made any difference

and BIG W orders need a $50 min spend too.

So its really not a that big of a deal honestly. So many amazon items are 0%

@dealbot any knowledge of non store specific challenge coming up soon ?? with a lower min spend limit ($30 or less) ?? thanks

Westpac bonus Cashback is ineligible on 0% Cashback categories

Yeah it kills a lot of deals tbh. Electronics, computers, ffs

          • +1

@CVonC: Pantry food as well. 0% should be 0.1% so it qualifies for things like this

I'm sure SB want to but Bezos probably doesn't to protect margins.

      • I just relayed the information Amazon customer service told me when I was in a similar situation.

Very deserving of negative votes. Funny stuff.

        Typical of many OzGrubainers.

$20 cap per order or per transaction?

    • +3

Aren’t those two the same thing?
If you mean if it’s capped at per user or transaction, then it’s the latter

      • +1

Yeah was late didn't read what i typed. Thanks

      • is $20 cashback can be done many times ie many checkouts

e.g. $200 check out (which may have 1 or more items)
        get $20..

then can you do another $200 checkout
        and get another $20 etc.

I think that is what they allowed with the ebay $20 cashback

        • +1

is $20 cashback can be done many times ie many checkouts

Yes as it’s capped by per transaction and not by per ShopBack user

          • @BargainsGrabber: oic..

do you know with regards to West Digital debit card + dynamic CVC
can you use that to checkout (using the dynamic CVC)
or do you need to use the actual CVC on your physical card..

and can you add the dynamic CVC to shopback westpac payment information or need to add the actual number on the card?

can pay using paypal link with your westpac card, will that also get tracked?

            • @pinkybrain: Previously people have used the dynamic CVC ok. Cannot use Paypal.

              • @Yola: can you put a dynamic CVC in the shopback add payment information page?

prefer if shopback don't have the actual CVC on the physical card.

  • My last one from Big W is still calculating? Purchase on 26th April. Should it take this long? Will skip Big W I think.

    • +1

Purchases with big w takes so long and most of the time for me doesn’t come through so I dont bother

  • What would happen in the case where you pay partially with amazon gift card balance and the rest with Westpac?
Would you get the 10% bonus with only the Westpac paid portion? The whole amount? None at all?

    • +2

Only eBay and Amazon get the full amount tracked if it’s paid partially with a Westpac card

      • +1

        what do you mean?

so if you paid $100 gift card balance +$100 from westpac,
        Total $200 checkout

do you get $20 or $10 cashback?

        • +2

$20, as it’s based on what the checkout amount is

      • How do you do partial with Amazon ?

        • +1

You would have to have a low GC balance.

  • +6

  • Need help here. I made a purchase on Amazon at around 9:30pm on 31st May. The cashback tracked as "Calculating". I contacted Shopback, but they told me the rate on Toys was 0% on 31st May which is a lie. I had checked the rate right before I made the purchase, but I didn't make a screenshot. The rate was changed to 0% yesterday. Now they are lying to me to avoid the cashback. Does anyone have a screenshot of the rate of Toys on 31st May? Please help. Thank you.

    • +1

Not a screenshot but above your comment Toys is 2.10% on 31 May
I was looking at buying toys and it wasn't 0%

      • Thanks mate, I have asked Thomas from Shopback to double-check their database. He insisted it was 0%. So disappointed! Don't even know if a screenshot will help, regret not taking one myself since I trusted them deeply before.

        • +1

Unfortunately I've also dealt with Thomas before. He wasn't helpful and seemed dismissive. I got the rep here Gotyourback to fix the non-tracking issue eventually. Took a while though.

          • @trixieb: Yep, Gotyourback did help me many times before and also the support team never failed me before. This is the first time. I did get an email from Thomas. "After reviewing your case with the respective team, I was able to obtain approval to credit the wrong amount for one time goodwill." It looks like they will fix it for me at least. So I don't need to bother Gotyourback this time I think.
