Not sure of the usual value of Velocity points, but there is currently +10% on $25 to $1000 physical Apple gift cards (1st - 15th June).

Also from the website: "Please note that this gift card is physical and will be delivered to your nominated shipping address within 14 working days"

Value breakdown:

Considering 7800 points + taxes gets you a Melbourne - Sydney One Way Flight, and 7800 points is only worth about $43.76 in Apple Gift Card value with this offer, I would only consider this if you don't want to use your Velocity Points for anything else.

      Thanks, that gives good perspective.
I've also found this page, which estimates ~0.6$/pt value when redeeming flights with points+pay, and ~1.2$/pt value if you're lucky to find economy reward seats (more for the rare business/first class reward seats).
Here we max out 0.58$/pt (equivalent to non-reward seats…). Still debating if I should go for a MacBook or keep the points for potential future travel… Priorities…

It's easy to overthink the value. I hung onto velocity points for ages trying to find flights to Canada, in the end it was easier just to buy the flights outright.

Great for easy upgrades (I used to use most of my qantas points on upgrades when I flew to NZ for work), but recently I dropped 47k qantas points on some airpods pro. A waste? Maybe, but it took 3 clicks and even at discounted airpods pro value of about $330 it's still 0.7c per point.

  • Can you do points plus pay with this? So minimum points and then pay the rest, still getting the 10 per cent bonus?
