  anyone know the read/write speed for the $19.95 32 gb cruzer fits? and how this compares to the $45 for extreme, someone above in comments said usb 2.0 vs 3.0, but wondering if it was worth getting the cheaper if you're not after blistering speed but just normal transferring when your at home of large movie files, etc etc?

    the difference between usb 2.0 and 3.0 is like night and day!

    if you're transferring one or two movies at a time, then 2.0 will be fine.

    but i can tell you, transferring 10GB or more (a whole bunch of movies) on usb 2.0 is an absolute pain, now that i have experienced usb 3.0!!!

    if you are going to transfer a bunch of movies regularly, then i would get the 3.0 personally. particularly because the extreme looks like it's quite a fast 3.0, while the fit is not a particularly fast 2.0 i don't think.

    but if you just copy one or two new movies every time, and very infrequently more than that, then the fit would do the job ok.

      any way of quantifying that in terms of read/write speed comparisons? From memory is it roughly say 15 mb/s write (2.0) vs 150 mb/s write (3.0) as inferred from one of francesca's earliest comments here?

      hmm true i don't transfer movies regularly but i guess it would be handy.. although just over 2times the price at $45.. hmmm. reckon pricing will drop significantly for 3.0's in the near future given i have a stack of usb's piling up..

        nah sorry, you'll have to look up the stats for the two drives…i was talking more generally about usb 2.0 vs 3.0.

        i have a vague memory of maybe seeing 4-5MB/s write speeds for the cruzer fit? not sure though, that might just be a figment of my imagination. i wasn't really too concerned about write speeds when i bought it (i already ruled it out in favour of usb 3.0 as a general purpose drive for copying movies, and will be using it to store my music/photo collection instead, so speeds aren't as important)

        The Extreme will be > 20 times faster when writing to it (compared to the Fit).

        see Ferkin Tight's test speeds (3.35MB/s write) for the Fit below…so probably more like 30-40 times faster!

    You can use them on ur USB 2.0 ports, but they will be limited to usb 2.0 speed….

    Yeah the write speed is disappointing. Transferred a 1.3GB movie file from PC to 32GB Fit and average speed shows 4.65MB only.

    This is a SLOW flash drive!

      yeah, not a good drive for regularly transferring data.

      best use is for storage of some sort of library, particularly as supplementary storage on a storage constrained laptop.
