5 cards + own credit card

          There's your problem.

The Ultimate gift cards you have are prepaid Visa gift cards that can only be used at a limited list of participating retailers (including JB Hi-Fi).

The JB Hi-Fi online store can only process payment from one Visa card per online transaction. That means when you enter the details of an Ultimate gift card into the debit/credit card section of the online checkout and then attempt to process payment, you are actually trying to charge the full cost of the preorder to that one Ultimate gift card.

Have a look at this FAQ for some information on what you can do next.

  • has anyone used multiple cards to buy something off Temple and Webster?

      • +1

Thanks, I managed to buy one. I had an issue with the expiry date. But I had to go in check the balance of the card to get the correct expiry date. I used that and was able to purchase/exchange the card.

Temple and Webster said that multiple Temple and Webster GCs can be used at once. I dont know if there is a limit, but ill find out if there is :)

        Again, thanks for your help

    Temple and Webster

A quick note on using Ultimate Gift Cards on Temple and Webster's website in case anyone else struggles.

    1. Go to https://www.ultimategiftcards.com.au/check-balance/ and check the balance of the gift card.
    2. Record the expiry number of the card (this will be different than the one on the card)
    3. Go to https://exchangeyourcard.com.au and enter your card details (and the expiry from step 2)
    4. Buy a Temple and Webster Gift Card for the same value (e.g. Exchange it).
    5. Once you have the Temple and Webster gift card, record the PIN, not the Gift Card Number
    6. Order your stuff on the Temple and Webster website, and on the checkout screen, look for the Gift Card option (down the bottom).
    7. Enter the PIN (not the gift card number) and apply it.
    8. On the right-hand side it will reduce the outstanding balance by the gift card value
    9. Keep adding gift cards

Support said there is no limit to the number of gift cards that can be used for payment.

  • Is there a limit to how many gift cards you can use at once at office works?

    • Instore

It really depends on the staff member and their willingness to do split payments.

I find that most staff are happy to do split payments.

As an aside, make sure to tell staff you want to do split payments across multiple cards (or multiple Visa cards). I remember being stuck behind a customer at an Officeworks checkout for a couple of minutes last year, because both the customer and the staff member did not know that Ultimate gift cards were not the same as Officeworks gift cards, plus both did not realise you have to specify the balance on each Ultimate gift card when doing split payments. As you can probably guess, I had to intervene…

      Online

You can only redeem a maximum of 1x Ultimate gift card on the Officeworks website, because Officeworks’ website cannot handle split payments between multiple Visa cards. There are no workarounds.

I am also assuming Ultimate gift cards actually work on the Officeworks website. The Ultimate gift card website says they do, but I have received quite a few reports from people earlier this year that Officeworks’ website will refuse to process payment from an Ultimate gift card, even if you trying to purchase stationery or furniture or tech stuff, etc.

Over the phone at 1300 OFFICE

I don’t know if you can do split payments when paying for something over the phone.

      • +1

For what it's worth I was able to successfully use a single Ultimate giftcard at Officeworks online in the last couple of weeks (single card per order, didn't see anyway to split payment over multiple cards). I had previously had trouble redeeming them at Officeworks online.

      • +2

Just for everyone's knowledge and follow up.
        - I had called multiple Officeworks and they had all varying answers. Some said they maxed out at 10 transactions (e.g. 9 gift cards and 1 credit card) due to risk of their payment system crashing. Others had said that they maxed out at 25 cards, others maxed out at $1000 which was weird.

For my own personal purchase at Officeworks.
        - I used 15 x $100 ultimate home 2 x $50 student and 3 x mastercards (which had a few $ on them) for a total of 20 gift cards for 1 single purchase from officeworks in person.

        • There were no issues with this but I did have to mention to the staff that it wasn't a regular gift card and should try it as a Visa card per WookieMonster's advice (THANKS!) when it didn't go through, which worked like a treat.
        • +1

@Leonart Its interesting that you note these different scenarios here. I recently made a purchase at Officeworks >$1000. Firstly I used 10 X $100 Ultimate Home Gift Cards which worked perfectly. The 11th form of payment I attempted to use an Officeworks Gift Card to no avail. It kept getting declined.

I had 3 different staff members (including the manager) who tried a dozen times to redeem my gift card. The manager even called someone (possibly the Officeworks sales team) to get answers. He did an in-store balance check and printed out a receipt to confirm my gift card was active and had the full balance on it. In the end, they told me I would have to use an alternative form of payment and I resorted to my debit card to pay the remaining balance.

          • @RoosterBooster: Did they check what the officeworks gift card was considered as? Like i didnt know the ultimate cards were considered 'visa cards' rather than giftcards and the officeworks giftcards might be from a different form of payment even though its a 'giftcard'.

But yeah it is strange potentially it could be a varied store-store policy?

            • +1

@Leonart: I believe so. They put it through as Gift Card (Officeworks) but kept getting declined/invalid transaction. They also tried other ways such as putting it through as Eftpos transaction with no luck. I’d actually asked Officeworks beforehand if there was a limit on the number of Ultimate Home and Officeworks GCs that could be used in one transaction and they said their system didn’t have a limit.

  • I’ve just used the Ultimate Students card to buy Diablo IV from EB Games and saved 10% cost of a brand new game.

  • Is there any limit on the number of these gift cards you can use at The Iconic? thinking of picking up 5*$100

also how easy is it to get a refund if a card does not work online?

    • +2

Impossible to get a refund if a card doesn't work online. You'll be stuck with the card.

  • Can Ultimate giftcards be used at JB Hi-Fi Commercial?

    • +1

      No

      • Sounds like an anomaly then, as these cards can be used at TGG commercial.

        • +1

Yeah it's weird. I think you can only use one Ultimate GC with TGGC so be careful with that as well

  • Anyone know how the Ultimate exchange service works?
    https://exchangeyourcard.com.au/

    • +1

You enter the 16 digit card number and the CVV2 value printed on the back of the gift card, as well as the card expiry date.1

Once you log into the portal for your gift card, you can choose to exchange the full or partial available balance of your Ultimate gift card for a digital gift card from one of the participating retailers choosing to participate in this exchange portal. It has been a while since I have used that exchange portal, but the digital gift card should be sent to an email address of your choice.

      1. The card expiry date you use for purchases and exchanges can be found on MyPrepaidCentre. For physical Ultimate gift cards, it is 12/29.

      • I assume it can't be used to merge multiple cards into one?

        • +1

Last time I checked (which was a few days ago), that is correct.

  • Can the Everyone GC be used online with the expiry date obtained from MyPrepaidCenter portal?

  • anyone has used ultimate gift cards at Kogan online? I just don't work out how to use them….😱😱😱

    • Unfortunately, Ultimate gift cards are a pain to use on Kogan. You can read through this recent discussion to see why I say that…

For Kogan, you cannot exchange an Ultimate gift card for a Kogan gift card through the Ultimate gift card website, and Kogan appears to block Ultimate gift cards from being used to pay for Kogan gift cards on the Kogan website. Basically, that means you can only redeem one Ultimate gift card per transaction on the Kogan website (and you do this by entering the Ultimate gift card's into the debit/credit card section of the online checkout, not the section where you redeem Kogan gift cards).

  • Hi has anyone used multiple ultimate gift cards on kogan online.

Did you read Wookie's comment above?

      • I just did and finiahed readinf the recent discussion😭

  • Trying to buy $100Ultimate everyone or kids or teens Travelled to 10 Coles today got nothing, are they going to restock tomorrow or Tuesday?

    • +2

The bad news for you is:

      • Coles does not sell a $100 fixed denomination Ultimate Everyone gift card. Coles only sells $50 and $50-$500 denominations. I think Woolworths is the only brick and mortar store that sells $100 fixed denomination Ultimate Everyone gift cards.

      • $100 fixed denomination Ultimate Teens / Kids gift cards do not exist (at least in a physical form sold at Coles, BIG W, Woolworths, Kmart, etc).

Have you seen this comment before? It would have hinted at the fact that your visits to multiple Coles supermarkets would have been futile.

      • +1

        thanks Wookiemonster!
Perhaps I will wait the master card this Wed

  • How many JB Hi-Fi gift cards can be used online in one transaction? Only managed to get $50s so would have to change them to lots of $50 JB GCs.

  • Is it cheaper to buy apple products through education or with these gift cards and purchasing at JB HI FI?

    I'm looking for an Ipad.

    • Why not both? If you go to a JB Hi-Fi store, they should be happy to price match the Apple Education Store if you can provide evidence of your eligibility to access student pricing (e.g. university student ID), as I have seen this happen many times. You can then use Ultimate gift cards as a payment method.

Alternatively, if you don't mind a little bit of hassle, you can try to purchase Apple gift cards at a JB Hi-Fi store using Ultimate gift cards as a payment method. There is nothing in the JB Hi-Fi checkout system to stop you from doing this, but you may run into a staff member who really does not like you using a gift card to purchase a gift card. I find most JB Hi-Fi staff these days really only care about people trying to use Ultimate gift cards to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards. Anyway, the point of all of this is that you can use Apple gift cards to purchase that iPad through Apple, including through the Apple Education Store (or OzBargain's favourite, the AOC Education Store)… and if you go through Cashrewards or Shopback, you will get additional cashback for purchasing through the Apple Education Store.

Lastly, if you don't want to go through that hassle, it is up to you to calculate whether Apple Education Store (or AOC Education Store) pricing is cheaper than 10% off Ultimate gift cards. Keep in mind that you can purchase discounted Apple gift cards from a number of gift card portals everyday, so that can help drive the cost down even further if you go down the Apple route. Also, JB Hi-Fi may not have configuration you are looking for in stock, so I cannot really help you there.

  • @WookieMonster can the Ultimate Him card be used online at Rebel? I tried to use it to buy Rebel gift card the same way I've been doing it for JB but Rebel keeps declining the card. Hope I don't have to make a trip to the store to use these.

    • +2

I highly doubt you can use Ultimate Him gift cards to purchase rebel gift cards from rebel.

I had a quick look at the rebel website, and it looks like the website where you purchase rebel gift cards is separate from the website where you purchase goods from rebel, which makes me think that these two websites have different payment gateways and would therefore appear as very different websites to Blackhawk Network (the gift card issuer).

JB Hi-Fi is unusual in that they sell JB Hi-Fi gift cards through the same website (and push you through the same payment gateway) as the one where you purchase goods from JB Hi-Fi.

I thought rebel was still on the Ultimate gift card exchange facility. I just checked the FAQs on the Ultimate gift card website and it says this:

My gift card has a Super Retail Group (Rebel, Supercheap Auto, BCF) Logo, can I still exchange for an eGift?

Yes, to exchange your gift card for an eGift, please visit https://exchangeyourcard.com.au/

Assuming your Ultimate Him gift card has the rebel logo on the packaging and is the Visa version, you should be able to exchange your Ultimate Him gift card for a rebel gift card without needing to go through rebel.

      • +1

Thank you. I thought they had removed Rebel from the exchange facility. Just tried and it worked. I'm glad I asked :)

  • Today is the last day!

  • Can i pre pay the ato for my personal tax due once i do my tax return? I dont have any outstanding debt with them….

  • I bought 4 of these cards from Coles and 2 Ultimate Everyday cards from Shopback. 5 of them worked perfectly, but one of the Shopback ones failed to send me a TheIconic gift card i exchanged it for. I got an Error on the final screen "Sorry there was a problem submitting your order".

The card now shows as redeemed, and I have not received a gift card in exchange for it…

Got in touch with support and they have advised I have to send them a screenshot of the error, and they would take 3-5 biz days to resolve…

Terrible service. Would be interested in knowing if anyone else dealt with a similar issue and how they were able to resolve it.
