Some thoughts (and I feel like a broken record):

    • This deal is for all Ultimate gift cards sold at Coles (excluding the variable load denominations), not just the five Ultimate gift cards pictured in the catalogue.

    • Please be aware that some Coles stores still stock Ultimate (EFTPOS) gift cards, which are the older version of the Ultimate gift cards pictured in this deal. If you do not know about the differences between the Visa and EFTPOS versions (and want to know why I would generally avoid the EFTPOS version anyway), please look here.

    • Ultimate (Visa) gift cards are redeemable instore at some of the participating retailers, redeemable online at some of the participating retailers and can be exchange for some participating retailers' digital gift cards. Please refer to the Ultimate gift card website for more information on how you can redeem them at a particular participating retailer.

    • If you want to know what the correct list of participating retailers and redemption options, please look at the Ultimate gift card website. The gift card packaging is not the source of truth for participating retailers, unless you are looking for gift cards redeemable at Supercheap Auto, rebel, BCF or Drummond Golf.

As always, thanks for your input. Your knowledge of GCs and their intricacies is like a thin slice of fried gold, and is one of the most positive contributions to the OzB community.

      5 Stars - would WookieMonster again! :-D

Hope people didn't spend too at Amazon for the 8%, Amazon is variable though

    • +3

Upside to Amazon was being able to stack the Coles Mastercard Gift cards into it and even various Amazon discounted gift cards. For double or triple stacks.

      • +1

that was like the perfect storm

    • Amazon deal was theoretically better since you could stack the discounts of 7.48% Coles MC > 6.67% Prezzee / 2% Shopback swap into Amazon GC > 8% Ultimate Gift Cards.

      • Limit applies.

    • Where is this amazon 8%?

  • -2

I would never buy utilmate gift cards

    Very poor reviews

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/ultimate-gift-card…

    • +6

Looks like most of the reviews are user error.

    • +3

      Never had an issue

    • +1

73 bad reviews out of how many that use them? A lot of them don't even say what their problem is or can't articulate it properly. Some of them might be trying to use the wrong card at the wrong place or confusing them with TCN cards. Nobody reviews a gift card if they have no problem, have you? didn't think so. You would have to be a fool to take those reviews at face value.

  • Guys can the coles mastercard be used to buy this?

    • Looks like it is in store only. Unless you can somehow enter the mastercard into the eftpos machine, i doubt you will be able to use it

      • Like ive been able to use it normally in store at coles

        • It's worth distinguishing between the physical cards purchased in store from previous deals and the digital version currently available online only.

          • @daanish: Ohh sorry i have the physical one too,is it usable?

            • @Alpha-q: I know that Coles has updated their system to block the purchase of Coles and Coles Group issued gift cards with Coles Myer or Coles Mastercard gift cards but I am not sure if this extends to 3rd party cards too. I know WookieMonster did a write up on it but I'm not able to go hunting for it right now and I don't think it's reasonable to expect Wookie to keep answering the same frequently asked questions in every single gift card deal.

I'd suggest looking through the gift card FAQ wiki or Wookie's previous comments and I'm sure you'll find the answer there.

              • @daanish: Last time i used Westfield card and it was ok.

            • @Alpha-q: Yes used in the last ultimate deal around Mother’s Day.

        • are you saying you were able to use a digital coles mastercard by imputting card details into eftpos machine 🤔

          • @BShandy23: No mate,i actually meant the physical gc

            • @Alpha-q: To be fair, Coles Mastercard is a vague term, because that can refer to three different payment methods:

              1. Coles Mastercard credit card - the Coles-branded credit card issued by NAB

              2. Coles Mastercard gift card - the physical gift card issued by Heritage Bank

              3. Coles Mastercard gift card - the digital gift card issued by Heritage Bank

          • @BShandy23: Certainly, provided the merchant is willing to be exposed to the higher chargeback risk.

          • @BShandy23: You can not use any sorts of gift cards (coles physical or coles and myer physical or coles digiital gift cards) to buy third party gift cards. What you can use is coles MasterCard gift card, Westfield eftpos gift cards, vanilla visa gift cards, the perfect eftpos gift cards…means only you can use either visa, MasterCard or eftpos gift cards to buy third party gift cards at coles, Woolies and aldi with some T n Cs ( ie; not more than $400 in one transaction)

      • +1

A lot of people still have psychical cards like I have vanilla visa. For Coles Mastercard set up a pin on the website and use it as normal. No issues went I did during the 10% extra on Ultimate giftcards. I even had to show the card as I didn't have a pin set and was required to sign. Haven't tested VISA however…

        • +1

You can put the pin u want when u use it first time if u miss setting it online. For MasterCard, Not sure about visa one.

          • @shibbu: Somehow I bypassed all that and it went to sign and a card sight.

I still have two Ultimate Everyone giftcards with $2.xx. Anyone can suggest how I can use the remaining? I mainly use Menulog and Donut King before but no split payment.

    • +2

Officeworks: stationary or other low value items you may otherwise buy elsewhere. Don't forget to price check / match.

    • +2

Works at Chatime where u can split pay

      • +1

        And Nando too

    • Any split payment store in person would work right?

      • Probably store by store. I purchased a coffee before but refuse to split payment. So next time, I will ask before buying.

Officeworks is probably a good option for me.

    • +3

In my experience, split payments between multiple cards are possible at JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, The Good Guys and T2.

However, I did have one Officeworks staff member refuse to do split payments and they even refused to explain why.

  • +3

    No ebay =(

  • What does "Excludes Variable Load Card" mean? Does it mean only Max $100 per card allow?

    • +1

The card in which u can load from $50-$500. The one with no fix amount on them

      • -5

can you rephrase this. I still confuse. Plus the review on this card is terrible. Do you ever use this before? I want to save up for iPhone 15 this Sep to save $200. Assume I would be $2,000 worth gift card and purchase iPhone at JB Hifi

        • You might be better off waiting for a variable load deal since you would indeed need to buy 20x $100 gift cards and use them all in a split payment in-store at Jb Hi-Fi (can't do online split VISA payment at Jb Hi-Fi as far as I'm aware). I did 2x $500s Ultimate Teens @ JB Hi-Fi to purchase a phone in the trade-in deal, was seamless

          • @rekke: Thanks mate, I just looked at Reward app and Woolworth offering 20x point with Apple gift card. Very similar value but 2000 dollar worth 40000 points equal 200 bucks. The drawback is you need to spend that 200 bucks for groceries, not immediate discount.

            • @ozgameboy: If you convert the Everyday Rewards points into Qantas points (such as I did with my 1k gift card purchase) you would earn 20k Qantas points that can reach values of 2c-8c per point if used effectively.

    • That will end in tears

      • Why is that?? Care to explain to help me out please?

        • means you might buy with that expectation but will end up with disappointment.

    • +1

Easier to use the Swap gift cards, currently on 10% off from Amazon. Can get 6 x $500 cards, then swap on to LE GCs on their website per their instructions. Add each to your account balance like Amazon/Uber/Airbnb GCs and pay in one go.

  • Any Airbnb gift card coming up???

  • Can we use this card to buy airbnb gift card from JBHifi?

    • +2

I have never seen an Airbnb gift card sold at JB Hi-Fi. At the time of writing this comment, JB Hi-Fi only sells gift cards related to entertainment (e.g. interactive entertainment, streaming services), as well as JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

I just walked out of a JB Hi-Fi store and did not see an Airbnb gift card.

  • Can you use this card to buy other giftcards? Eg, Nintendo credit at jb or eb?

Or JB at 3-4% and then Nintendo? Etc

    • +3

JB Hi-Fi and EB Games are generally quite relaxed with customers using Ultimate gift cards as a payment method for third-party gift cards (including Nintendo eShop Cards) sold in their stores. Some advice:

      • There should be nothing in either store’s instore checkout system to block you from using an Ultimate gift card as a payment method for any gift cards.

      • Tell staff you want to use a card or Visa card as a payment method. JB Hi-Fi and EB Games handle the redemption of Ultimate gift cards just like a regular Visa card, and it is very different to way in which you redeem JB Hi-Fi gift cards and EB Games gift cards at the respective stores. (This is a fact that gets lost on a lot of people.)

      • You may run into a staff member who is insistent that you cannot use gift cards to purchase any kind of gift cards, but that is unlikely.

      • Split payments between multiple Ultimate gift cards (or an Ultimate gift card + a credit/debit card) may or may not be allowed, depending on how the staff member feels!

  • Has anyone tried using the Ultimate Eats gift card at Nando's recently? I tried it at two separate Nando's and both times the card was declined despite having sufficient balance. Checked the website and it looks like they're still accepted at Nando's.

    • Did Nandos process it as a Nandos gift card? If so that would be your problem. It’s just a normal credit transaction. You can also try add to Apply Pay and pay that way

      • +1

My concern is that it is not user error nor operator error, but an issue where the Nando's locations in question changed their EFTPOS terminals and failed to tell Blackhawk Network about it. (Blackhawk Network relies on unique identifiers in EFTPOS terminals in order to work properly instore at participating retailers.)

It is a problem that has cropped up before.

Without being able to get more information from the previous commenter, it is hard to tell whether the issue is user error, operator error or a Blackhawk Network error.

        • I suspect it may have been the EFTPOS terminal because it previously worked at one of the Nando's but they have since upgraded to some schmancy new card machine and it was declined.

          I'll reach out to Blackhawk.

        • +1

I’ve had this problem happen with a nrl gift card at a team store where initially the card didn’t work, I contacted tcn and they set it up. A few months later I was able to use it. Tried to use it a few months after that to use up the balance but it didn’t work again because the store changed their eftpos machine. Contacted tcn again but haven’t had a chance to see if the card works again.

      • It was processed as a normal credit transaction. Suspect it's their new EFTPOS machine as highlighted by WookieMonster.

    • Yes happened to me as well. I don’t know what to do with that card now. The sales person tried as normal eftpos and processed as a normal credit transaction, still failed. I had to pay with my debit card afterwards.

  • What is the max denomination? $100?

    • +5

These are the maximum amount for fixed denominations I have seen at Coles (including when I had a quick look this morning):

      • Active & Wellness: $100
      • Baby & Mum: $100 (I think)
      • Beauty & Spa: $100
      • Eats: $50
      • Everyone: $50
      • Gaming & Bites: I have not seen this stocked at Coles. The only brick and mortar retailer I have seen stock this is BIG W, but there is a chance Coles could start selling as part of this deal.
      • Her: $100
      • Him: $100
      • Home: $100
      • Kids: $50
      • Students: $50
      • Style/Shopping: $100
      • Teens: $50
      • Thanks: $50

Other brick and mortar retailers sell other denominations (e.g. Woolworths sells a $100 Ultimate Everyone gift card), but just because one brick and mortar retailer sells a particular denomination, it does not mean another brick and mortar retailer will also sell it.

      • I saw $50 Gaming & Bites at a Coles store earlier today. There's also some $30 denomination on selected Ultimate GC's.

        • That’s good to know. I wonder whether Coles will also sell a $100 denomination of the Gaming & Bites gift card, as BIG W sells both $50 and $100 denominations.

    • FYI.

Went to Coles to buy several $100 Ultimate For Everyone gift card.

Scan at checkout and the 10% discount did not apply.

Spoke to customer rep, and found out the 10% discount is only applicable to the $50 denomination Ultimate gift cards, with a maximum of 5 x card per customer.

      So I purchased 5 x $50 Ultimate gift cards and saved $25.

Will return for more later in the week.

      • Spoke to customer rep, and found out the 10% discount is only applicable to the $50 denomination Ultimate gift cards

That is very odd, because I purchased a $100 Ultimate Home gift card this morning and the checkout applied a 10% discount to it.

There is also nothing in the terms and conditions of the offer to say that the $100 fixed denominations is excluded.

I think the customer rep is wrong.

I am actually confused about you saying that the $100 Ultimate Everyone gift card was not discounted, because I did not think Coles sold a fixed $100 denomination. Did the checkout ask you how much you wanted to load onto the gift card when you scanned it?

      • Purchased several $100 ultimate home gift cards this morning from 2 seperate coles stores and they went through fine for me.

Are you referring to purchasing $100 on the variable load gift cards ($50 - $500 cards)? If so, then those are excluded from this sale.

  • Can you buy these with coles prepaid Mastercard currently on offer for 20x points?

    • +1

      Maybe.

Someone said it worked during the last Ultimate gift card deal at Coles in May 2023.

However, keep in mind the following:

      • Coles could have implemented automatic blocks in their payment processing to stop you from using a Coles Mastercard gift card as a payment method for Ultimate gift cards after that comment I linked above. I have not seen any reports on OzBargain since the last Ultimate gift card deal at Coles, and it has actually been months since I have purchased an Ultimate gift card at Coles…

      • It is against Coles’ store policy to use Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method for any gift cards sold at Coles, and if a staff member picks up on you trying to use a Coles Mastercard gift card and they care enough to stop you, they could. I will note you would have to be very unlucky for this to happen to you, because I find a lot of Coles staff really do not care about the payment method you use.

    • are there more details on the mastercard with 20x points?

  • +3

How many gift cards does JB Hifi allow you to redeem nowadays? I remember redeeming 20 once

    • I would like to know as well

    • Even though this is called an "Ultimate Gift Card" at JB HiFi it effectively functions as a Visa card. So if you intend to redeem them online, you type the Ultimate gift card number and exp and CVC into the card field online. This means you can only redeem 1 card on the checkout page.

If you plan to use it in-store - go to the cashier and tell them you'd like to split the payment over x number of cards. Then tell them how much is on each card and swipe and PIN as if it were a regular debit/credit card from your bank. The current record is 81 cards.

See the very comprehensive Gift Card FAQ if you have any other questions - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/gift_card_deals_retailer_f…

  • Does anyone know if Anaconda will take multiple cards?

    • Yes they do. Not sure if they have a max number per transaction but I have used 3 in one transaction

      • Inhave used 5 physical cards.

  • -1

How can I use coles prepaid mastercard to buy these GC? anyone has tried?

    • +1

      This is an ambiguous question.

If you have a physical Coles Mastercard gift card, you need to select Card on the checkout screen (or ask to pay by Card), then swipe the gift card on the EFTPOS terminal.

If you have a digital Coles Mastercard gift card, the only way you can redeem it in-person at a merchant is via MOTO mode. I bet you that basically all Coles staff do not know what MOTO mode is, and even if they know, they would not willingly let you do that, because MOTO mode is associated with a higher risk of fraudulent transactions. If I was a merchant, I would be extremely suspicious of someone punching in card details into the EFTPOS terminal without seeing the actual card being used, because it would be impossible to know for certain whether the cardholder for the card is the one who is punching in the details into the EFTPOS terminal.

      • +1

Thanks, I have tried to use it in woolworths in checkout but staff doesnt let me use digital prepaid mastercard. So means same thing happens in coles.

        • +1

I can just confirm @Andy Nguyen that they are usable

  • seems like some HIM cards dont have the JBHIFI logo on them.

  • +3

Dear ozbargainers,i can just confirm that you can use your physical MasterCards from coles to purchase these ultimate gift cards, just bought 500$ worth from those, the one issued by heritage bank. now ill be holding my last card when these get upsized to 15% off, makes a total saving of 21.3%

    • The problem is that I dont have physical Mastercard. I got digital one from this deal

  • If anyone is having issues exchanging these for e-gift cards, try using the expiration date of 12/29. Mine weren't the default 3-year expiry.

  • Bought some Ultimate cards and tried to use them for a preoder at JB Hifi online but they don't work. The cards have balance but JB don't accept these online. Bummer.

    • Some initial questions so we can try to understand the issue you are facing:

      • Do you have the Visa or eftpos version of Ultimate gift cards? (Look here if you are not sure what I am talking about.)

      • What expiry date are you using for your Ultimate gift card?

      • Where are you adding the Ultimate gift card details into the online checkout? The debit/credit card section or the gift card section?

      • You mention cards (i.e. plural). Is there sufficient balance on one Ultimate gift card to pay for the preorder?

      • Hi
