which one of these is the 'Dan Andrew's Media jacket'??

  • -4

These don't usually retail in communist states

  • +3

I've got this and hate it. The hood straps are much too difficult to adjust

  • +1

    Is this Dan Andrews edition?

    • +17

      I can't recall

    • +7

      Next question!

    • +2

There is an enquiry into this and I won't comment until I've seen the final report.

    • Well done folks. Now lets get on the beers

  • +11

I thought this would be a insulated warm waterproof jacket but reading more into it looks like it’s a flimsy spray jacket that rolls up to store in a bag.

    • +2

Why did you think it was insulated?

      • +22

Umm probably the price wtf .. $230 retail for a spray jacket is absurd

    • it's just a rain jacket

    • +6

You have to remember 100% of their fabrics are all petroleum based (rubber / plastic). They give them various names, but North Face essentially sources ALL of its products from oil and gas industries, but masquerades as an ESG friendly company.

      • +1

And all the PFAS used in the waterproofing

  • Thanks.

  • +7

I'm wondering why all jackets here not telling you what waterproof and breathable rates.

    • +1

      Frustrates me too

    • Its kogan thing and kogan wont let you have easy return like amazon

  • +7

Have same one from amazon. More like raincoat. Very flimsy, no insulation but good in rain if you wearing something inside to keep you warm.

    • I have one and while it’s thin, it’s not flimsy. It’s supposed to protect from rain and wind, if you also need warmth you add a layer, like a fleece, underneath.

Wear this and bring out your inner Dictator.

    • +1

Just add your SAD membership badge on the far right lapel for balance?

      • +2

        Don’t know what that means.

        • SAD = Sky After Dark = FR Inanity

          • +2

            @Igaf: Still nothing.

@furiousgeorge: its about what i'd expect from a danbot

              • -1

@jmc787: About? Do you need your SAD mates to affirm your opinion or did you forget the rwnj playbook rules you signed up for? A modicum of originality would help in your slagging, or even better a tidbit of humour.

                • @Igaf: humour like a "SAD lapel badge" ah thats something your idol would find funny, not a normal person, the rest of us dont wear suits unless its to a funeral

                  • -2

@jmc787: Apologies to those with a moderate knowledge of the "Dan" topic and some still functioning brain cells who don't require an elaborate explanation of my first comment. For your benefit - my comment wasn't meant to be humorous, it was obviously a reference to the imbecilic, overblown and childish hatred of Andrews by the unbalanced right, egged on by the toxic Murdoch media. As plenty of Labor supporters will attest Andrews is far from perfect - unlike you and me obviously - but the puerile obsession the extreme right has with him, and the often invented personal attacks on him by his more moronic detractors goes FAR beyond what ought to be acceptable in this country. Voters have overwhelmingly told SAD and their brain-dead anti-vax, "sovereign citizen", white supremacist, and sundry sycophantic supporters to take their American politics and shove it, so to speak. Long may that trend continue.

I used the word lapel figuratively btw. Feel free to pin your RW badges directly to your shoulder or chest, or hang them from your tin foil hats if that's your preference.

Goes well with a tinfoil hat.

FYI you need to size down with this jacket. It's quite loose and baggy compared to other jackets even other North Face ones. Even when layered up.

My use case is to put it in my hiking backpack and turns itself into its own bag, very compact.

  • These look like they are cut like burlap sacks, with no attempt at matching human anatomy. I suspect these are on the lowest tier of TNF gear.

Personally happy with Alpkit (UK) for cheap and cheerful rainshell.

    • Breathable or would one be wearing a tarp?

      • They're quite good for rain. Wouldn't say they are anywhere near windproof though.
Used these on my last camping trip and the rain just runs off them.

        • Ta though I'm more worried about sweating up in them enough that their rain-resistant nature would be made pointless. :)

      • im going hiking tomorrow with it in some serious rain, i'll let you know then

        • Sweet. Thanks. I need a new one (my current one has lost its ability to repel water).

          • @the discombobulated panda: You can just reapply the water repellent coating, you Nikwax/Grangers/whatever from an outdoor store.

            • @rumblytangara: Tried that. Never really seems to work all that well and given that this is about the price of a recoat it may be the better option.

              • @the discombobulated panda: Instead of Nikwax etc. you could try a super hydrophobic nanotechnology treatment. I haven't tried it yet but the videos online look impressive.

          • @the discombobulated panda: Ok my one is actually this one https://www.kmart.com.au/product/light-shell-jacket-s160243/
Also $20 but some slight differences. It's a cold and rainy day (13-15C) and I was wearing a t-shirt under the jacket. I started sweating a bit 30 minutes in as it is not very breathable. A few drops of water got through my shoulders somehow (I felt them as I was walking and when I got home there were wet patches on top of my shoulders). The lack of an elastic sleeve meant my wrists were wet from the rain. It did a very good job of keeping me warm, but lack of breathability means I won't recommend it for walking/hiking/other outdoor activities. I might just keep this in the car for emergency situations. My Adidas rain jacket is definitely better, I'll continue to use that in the future.

      • The listing says they have pit zips, so they should be breathable.

        • Hmm. That's a thought. Given @s1Lence is going hiking and kmart's price isn't discounted I'll wait to see what the bear says before plonking money down. Hopefully they'll remember to write back. :)

          • @the discombobulated panda: I had a good chat with someone who did work in one of the main UK labs that tested outdoor (waterproof/breathable) fabrics. His take on it was "if you want breathable, doesn't matter what the fabric is, just get pit zips."

I've personally noticed that eVent was far better than Goretex, but his advice always stuck with me.

    • But he doesn't look like chairman Dan

  • Thanks OP i bought one :)

  • I bought 2. One mens M and one womens M. They arrived today, and the womens one was just another mens XL. Lets see how customer service goes.
