Sorry not a good deal compared to Flingshot

    Flingshot is selling 32GB USB3 for $23
The free shipping code is still working, see http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77779

Remember the Kogan one is 80MB/s read and 70MB/s write whereas the the Flingshot one is 45MB/s read and 20MB/s write. But is it worth $6 though?

I have a Lexar from Flingshot. It writes at 29-30MB/s. For me, I'd like it to be faster but that speed is fine for the price I paid.

Also, don't believe the speeds claimed in stats sheets. They're never accurate. Many say their max speed is such and such but when you test it it's not near that fast. Some say the speed is low, but in reality it's faster than that, for example Verbatims which say max write is 4MB/s.

I doubt it really reads and writes at 70 or 80MB/s. That might be burst read for a few seconds only.

you need to compare the speeds Bappy - those Lexar drives from Flingshot are much slower than these ones

      There is also a 64gb version http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/64gb-usb-3-flash-drive

      • Thanks mrshorty,
See http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75183, I posted the first Kogan 64GB USB3 deal
however Kogan's claim of 80MB/s read and 70MB/s write speed is not a correct benchmark

        • Kogan specs has slower speeds for the 64gb compared to the 32gb version (60MB/s read and 40MB/s write) so looks like they updated the benchmark speeds for these - did you buy one?

Would like to know what speeds these have before getting one (am a bit hesitant getting non-branded sticks)

    • Hi there. Just went to order off Flingshot but it says sold out. They do still have the 16Gb and the 64Gb if anyone is interested. Cheers.

  • This one is $18 delivered - http://www.techbargains.com.au/news_displayItem.cfm/312119

O wait - its not USB 3, my bad

  • Hmmm the 64 gig is tempting. Has anyone bought and verified these claimed speeds?

    • I don't have any benchmarks to show you but I'm happy with the usb3.0 speed for the 64GB…
I copy files onto it at about a 55-60MB average which makes transfering 4-6GB files much nicer.

That said, the last time the 64GB for $49 kogan deal was posted up some people mentioned you can find 100MB+ speed flashdrives priced in a simular fashion on ebay

But i'm happy with the kogan one.

  • Yeh that was a 16gb drive. I had a USB2 one of those and it maxed out at 35mb/s but lost the damn thing.

  • I bought the previous 64GB usb 3 from Kogan and very happy with it. Get full read write speed of usb 2 and at usb 3 was writing around 54 MB and reading at 62MB

Great to have something that fast and so portable. If only they could have a 256GB at similar GB / $ pricing.
