  • How often do people replace these?

    • +1

From previous threads - on average 6 months to 2 years. Outliers on both ends, including some who never change just vacuum the outer regularly and pop it back in.

    • +1

I have it on 10 hours a day and change it every 8 months.

    • +2

I have it on 24 hours a day and change it once a year.

    • We have 2 machines, one of them has already had two filter replacements (roughly once every 10months), while the other is still running on its original filter now for close to 2 years. It heavily depends on the area where its located and the quality of the air its filtering.

    • +1

      never change just vacuum

    • was planning to change it after a year but just vacuumed it really well and it looks almost brand new. So put it back. Yea the efficiency has reduced but not an extent where I would replace it. Probably will replace it after 2 years.

These are great, however if you want to save money by reusing your expired filters you can wash them, then place a small bit of aluminum foil around the RFID tag at the bottom to stop it from complaining of an expired filter :)

    • +4

Given that the majority of the time my pro display sits on 0 or 1 (ppm?), washing and reusing seems like a good option.
      Happy to be corrected.

    • how do you wash these? Just water and a brush?

      • +1

You don't wash HEPA filter. Vacuum maybe, but never wash.

    • +10

For heaven's sake don't wash your HEPA filters, you're highly likely to ruin their effectiveness. If you're really intent on extending their service life, just vacuum them every couple of months.

      • +1

Yeah don't wet these, destroys the mesh more than vacuuming

      • +1

Some HEPA filters can be washed as per manufacturer's instructions, as is the case with those found in vacuum cleaners. Also, strong vacuuming can also destroy the fibres found on HEPA. In short, best follow what the user manual says :)

      • +1

Agree, never wash anything air filtration. On industrial vacuum systems we would seal a leaf blower around the internal hole and blow the dust out that way. Large dust extraction systems with HEPA filters generally use a high air pressure reverse pulse for cleaning.

    • Just did this, works a treat! Thanks. Stops the annoying iOS notifications that the filter needs to be changed.

    • Cheers I'm going to give this a go…I usually use the vacuum and air compressor to clean out the filter but never thought about putting foil on the RFID tag.

  • The cost of these was the main decider in me going for the cheaper (but admittedly 'less smart') Ikea alternatives.

These do work very well though. Catch a lot of stuff.

    • +2

      Not genuine XIaomi AFAIK

    • +3

The purple is not HEPA. Mislabelled on that ebay listing.

    • These are 3rd party unbranded filters, I wouldn't touch these with a 100-foot pole. They have not been tested and can't be trusted.

    • +3

non original ones tend to smell like burnt plastic after a cpl months

  • Cool, needed one of these. Thanks OP

  • Darn it - got excited thinking that it was for the 4. They look the same!

      • I only just saw the email alert I have set up, which included a snippet of the text "plenty of stock". I clicked the link and here I am, sad :( fingers crossed for more stock!

        • +2

They said the next restock will arrive mid July. I suggested 500pcs minimum.
