These are wicked good headphones nice find OP, cool colour too, even though I am very partial to the Ivory(think I am the odd one out there)

Note its a 6.3mm jack and you do need a DAC and amplifier to get the most out of these, doesn't need to be too high powered but it does need a bit more than what standard jacks can output.

    • Thank you! I'd honestly consider getting a pair myself, but just recently got the Beyerdynamic DT770s so I can't justify getting another pair so soon …

    • They come with a 3.5mm adapter and work really well on my computer without a dac/amplifier, not sure about using them with a phone though

      • Isn't the cable detachable? It says it also comes with a 3.5mm cable.

      • They work, but I assure you the extra kit brings these to another level, I would invest in one when you can you’ll notice the difference is night and day.

    • Eh, not worth it above $149 any more, especially when you can get the HIFIMAN HE400SE (non-Stealth) for $110.

      • I’m not audiophile, but I’d honestly rather trust a brand that’s well known and has good warranty records, Ali express can be a bit of a lucky dip whether the seller looks after you or not, plus China shipping. Depends how badly you want to save a dollar, I’d still go the HD599 for $60 more personally.

AliExpress have a 15-day policy that will cover out of the box issues, including free return shipping. You can use that time to check the headband/enclosure/pads/cables, then test the headphone output itself for significant issues, including phase mismatch.

If that's unsatisfactory, buy the HE400SE Stealth for $180-$209 on Amazon, either way it's a far more detailed headphone than the 599. Any HIFIMAN sold in Australia has full warranty coverage without international shipping.

The 599 is an old recommendation, and even if you're after something for competitive gaming you should probably still look elsewhere.

      • Quality control on the original Hifiman HE400SE is subpar.

        • Evidence this, with specifics, because planar driver matching is inherently more difficult and HIFIMAN's support is excellent.

are these better than these headphones?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Sennheiser-Cancelling-Headphones-H…
    https://www.amazon.com.au/soundcore-Cancelling-Headphones-Cu…
From what I've read the soundcore's win but i dont know

    • These headphones have no noise cancelling and are open back so sound resonates outside the headphones, really good for an open soundstage but horrible if you are commuting or needing noise cancelling. Additionally, noise goes out so people can hear what you are listening to - do not use on public transport.

      • Ah, fair enough. Well if anyone knows anything about the soundcore Q45 please let me know as im very tempted to buy them!

        • Just grab the 1More Sonoflow until we get the latest bluetooth tech properly rolled out into well-tuned headphones. Should cost about $110 and is ahead of the Q45 on everything but noise cancelling (headphone and mic).

    • Better looking than either of them? No. Those Anker beats knockoffs look much cooler tbh, even if they sounded $50 worse I'd still buy them over the Senheiser.

      • does that mean the anker ones are good or bad? im confused lol

        • Ehh, they don't look that good, just a lot better than the Seinheiser HD 599. The HD 450SE looks better than both imo. Plus the HD 599 is open air, which is not what most people want form headphones, the guy sitting next to you on the bus would hear what you are listening to. Open air is meant to be better bang for buck for audio quality though, plus sometimes you want it if you want to hear what's going on around you. But modern noise cancelling headphones have transparency modes anyway so that point is increasingly moot.

Ah I see, didn't know about that. Thanks! @nismo

  • Is this good enough for fps game?

    • I am not a gamer however OK for music and movies.

      Prefer my AKG712,currently ~ $412.

    • I use mine for gaming on a SCHITT amp and DAC and it’s fantastic. Can pin point exactly which direction gunshots and explosives are coming from.
