Man, I would own this in a heartbeat if they didn't block basic android features with their custom UI.
I tried one in person, and was extremely exited by it, until I noticed a key (stock) feature I use (network access control per app) was removed.

I've long wondered what effect it would have if Samsung went 'Vanilla' on the usual Pixel customers.

Great phone and great price if you're happy with Samsungs custom OS's though, the night video on this is at another level (within its price point, of course).

I use Netguard for that. Is that a Pixel feature, never seen it in other Android phones.

      • Nope, stock Android 13 feature. Brands like Pixel, Nokia, Moto, Asus and Nothing; which use stock kernels even if they skin the theme, all leave full control for the user.

      • I used to use Netguard, but it ended up VERY limiting, since Android used to (still does?) only support 1 VPN tunnel at a time, it meant dialing back home to my network wasn't possible anymore.

That meant all my 'firewalled' apps got free reign whenever I wanted to access files from home, or tunnel for safety if using public WiFi. Which totally defeated the purpose (once apps KNOW they're out of date, they never shut up; or just INSTANTLY send metadata).

I've not even looked into it in MANY versions (perhaps since 8?); how does accessing a home VPN server (like, from your router) work, while using Nerguard?

        • I'm still on Android 12 so no other option but Netguard. Yep, only 1 VPN so same issue there.

    • On the contrary, I love Samsung's OneUI, so many little quality of life improvements over stock Android that I just can't get my head around.

But yeah, each to their own. Got it primarily for the SD card feature. Wish the camera was a bit better and the phone a tad lighter

  • anyone upgrade their poco x3 pro to this?

Recently got a pixel 7 for 471,using all the discount I can get of course. Otherwise a54 is a good mid-range phone.

    • Where at?

    • Would like to know how you managed this too?

    • so yeah… you can't just drop this without deets.

  • Is this Oz stock or Gray import?

    • Australian stock written in the product description

Thanks OP. Was looking for a new phone after my A50 screen cracked following a drop.

Well done on using the a50 for so long. Sounds like it was time for an upgrade.
