Was tossing up between the Evovacs N8 pro ($449 at good guys commercial) and the Roborock Q7 - went the Q7

      Would read reviews online.

      Apparently even though these newer models have higher suction Pa values, their actual percentage values of picking up dirt/dog shIt/debris is worse than some of the older models like the S5 Max.

      When I first got my Q7 it felt so light, I thought it must be inferior to my old S5 (non max). But I've had it for a few months now and I really like it. Q7 is much easier to clean.

          My cat has very fine medium to long hair. Usually after a vacuum I would clean the hair on the main brush, which is not fun. The Q7 uses a different main brush that doesn't get cat hair tangles. Everything just gathers into a tight layer that sits on the dust bin filter, like a washing machine lint collector, so all I need to do is suck that away with my old Electrolux vacuum cleaner.

    Im also looking to replace my gen 1 which I paid about $320 for. The current prices of robo vacs are insane but at least this is in the ballpark. Will take a look.

      I am really dirty that my gen 1 broke down. It was such a work horse. Would run at least 10x/week around my house. I loved that thing like a child. I just wanted a simple vacuum (without the mop function) and the Q7 seemed the best (with the N8 pro a close second)

        Yep a remarkable device at a very cheap price was the gen 1. Only now am I starting to see a lower battery life. Its has sat on a charger 24/7 for many years! Mine is still working other than a slightly lower tolerance for main brush tangles. Will probably pass it onto another family member.

        I’ve had various components of my gen 1 fail- I just order the component off aliexpress for $notmuch and there’s a lot of YouTube videos on how to fix any problem.

        My Gen 1 has been totally disassembled and back together twice- very impressed at how modular it is and easy to repair if you have 20 mins.

        Interested to know how it goes. It's literally half the cost of this one so no surprises it'll be missing a few features. But if it works for what you need it for that's the main thing.

            @viirgon: Thanks so much for getting back to me. Do you have any more details, like was the vacuum performance crap or it ran around aimlessly or something?

            I might have to look at the Q7 though anyway as I've got the S5 max for parents and they love it.

              @lancesta: What you said, missing spots randomly, movement was super inefficient, restart all again after getting stuck. My aging 1st gen Xioami was far superior.

                @viirgon: Yeah I think you've saved me from it. At the price point it's at, it's such a tempting offer. But it sounds like it'd be so much more frustrating in reality, particularly if it's getting stuck everywhere and not actually doing the job.

    Does it have obstacle avoidance (wires etc) I think thats the most important thing even more then the 30 day hands free because it doesnt do any good once it gets stuck

      Wires not so much, this will avoid chairs tables etc map room etc but doesn't have a camera to detect cords/wires on the ground
