  • +8

I could write a love letter to my sd1970 but I don’t want to bore y’all so I will just say

10/10 can recommend. Will change your life.

    • Which colour do you recommend?

      • +1

I personally have green on ss, and for the longest time was going to get black on waffle strap but nah this is already perfect

        • Grab an FKM waffle or tropic strap from Juelong - excellent, supple straps.

          • @TedJ: Good to get recommendations for stores. May look at ordering one & hopefully decent quality.

Can also get from steeldives.com, although ships from china anyway, $5 postage so very similar stock no doubt. Tbh I wasn't that happy with the buckle, felt cheap and not even brushed stainless steel.

If it gets a lot of wear I can recommend Barton in the US. Great quality, quick release, free postage over min spend, always discount codes (they got buy two get one free at the moment).

        • ps. Premium-Grade Quick Release or High Quality Waterproof Tropic Fluorine
all look a bit the same, but great they are quick release

    • Sounds like you'd be upta play 'Lume Wars' wiv the likes of Charlie Sheen's dad's watch! 😎

    • +5

I'll get the no logo in green on bracelet. If it doesn't change my life, I'll hunt u down and knife u bitch don't mess with me bruh

      • +7

I will be disappointed if you don’t fall in love with it and tell me in a comment how you also got the blue and black ones too for completion sake

Also throw in a skmei 1628 too while you’re there

As for knifing me, can you push me off a building instead at work? We can make it look like an accident - If I survive, we’ll split the workers comp and if I die, I’ll finally be free?

        • +1

As for knifing me, can you push me off a building instead at work? If I survive, we’ll split the workers comp and if I die, I’ll finally be free?

          sounds fair

        • +1

A tale of hope and tragedy; you have the basis of a blockbuster film there

          • +1

@TheB: Only if RDJ and Tobey Maguire play us. I don't mind either way, @Jimothy Wongingtons can have dibs. Get your people to contact my people.

        • +1

Finally cracked - also got a green no logo.

If my life isn't changed, I'll also be out for revenge.

          • +2

@ihfree: Well you’ll need to take a number, Deli style as looks like there’s a bit of a demand building

And I think you will agree for less than $100 this beast is insane value and will have you saying ‘

dayummmmmm - Steeldive does Seiko better than Seiko’

    • +1

Has it got a butt that won’t quit?

    • Mind sharing your wrist size? Thinking of pulling the trigger but I realised Im not a fan of tall watches

  • This is the deal I've been waiting for! Sub $100 was my price point. Keen.

Ps can't seem to get Black SS. Says can't be shipped to your country.

    • +1

Just tested it & won't add to my cart either. Black on rubber works.

    • Back in stock now. Don't forget code - SS6

  • +2

This one has no typo lol

    Should be Automtaic

  • sweet merciful crap thats a deal - get it! GET IT!!!!!!

  • Blue, green or black?

    • That's entirely up to your personal tastes. I played it safe and bought it in black but the blue works for me too.

    • +1

      Green brah

      • Green is the sexiest. I have 2 green Seikos already though.

  • +2

Awesome watch, especially for less than $100. Get it on the stainless steel bracelet, pick up an FKM tropic or waffle strap from Juelong, and enjoy!

    10/10 would buy again

    • Juelong have waffle? I gotta go look!

  • +1

It's really cheap with decent movement. Definitely get this over other Seiko 4r movements as long as you like the style.
I can't say I'll ever buy this though as the style isn't for me

    • Kinda with you there. Everything is good on the spec sheet, but I dont like the style.

I am, however, kind of digging the SD1953 with blue dial. Same basic specs as the SD1970 but a few dollars cheaper again.

  • Agreed, at this price it's a must-buy

  • +3

crazy build quality for the money, mine has been rock solid. If you prefer more of a submariner style, the SD1953 also came down to US $58.67 in my cart and has good reviews.

    • +1

      @WatchNerd

      Omg should I

@Muzeeb if you’re out there I’m thinking of ya brah

      • He's in the penalty box until next month.

  • +1

Love mine, I got it with the waffle rubber strap. Screaming deal at this price, I think I paid $110ish

    • If they did a navy dial I'd probably be forced to get a second one

  • Anyone else found any other watch deals worth getting?

  • Any specials on SD Tuna?

  • This or Seiko coutura?

  • +2

I'm literally wearing this watch right now, from a previous deal!

Ive found it incredibly comfortableif anyone is considering it.

  • Pretty subjective but logo or no logo?

    • +2

justs get the logo - logo is on the on the straps anyway in case you're embarrassed about being seen out wiff a 'steeldive' lmfao.. and not a Seiko at least

    • +9

I find no logo looks like something is missing

    • +1

      Imo with

  • +1

    game over? back to 97aud?

  • It comes up as $97.07 AUD for me, did I miss it?

    • +4

Try code SS6 thanks to Clear. Price comes to US$58.68 for me.

      • +1

Thanks so much @WatchNerd and @slimpickings.

After owning and loving my black SD1970 as a very handsome beater for a bit over a year now, have been coveting a green SD1953.

After Cashback for a tad under AU$80 couldn't go past this.

Ordered and now grinning like a Cheshire cat.

        • +1

Got my green SD1953 delivered yesterday.

Initially I was a little underwhelmed with the green dial, as thought it looked more like the enamel shade on the bezel, but after getting it in the right lighting, have noticed a nice play with light, similar to my Orient Blue Ray dial. That shifted me from my initial regret, thinking I should have gone with the black dial with green bezel, which also looks very nice from the photos, but happy enough now with the green dial.

After removing the required number of links, it sits on the wrist just the same, although not quite as wide as my SD1970.

Major difference is the lume on SD1953 is of equal intensity on both the dial and bezel so looks a bit busier in the dark and overall not quite as strong a lume as that on the SD1970 dial (see Aliexpress listing photos for comparison). Bezel teeth on the SD1953 also a bit chunkier and sharper than the SD1970.

After one day, running about 15s behind, but was really only on the wrist for a couple of hours, so probably going to be better than that if it gets a full day of wrist time.

Overall, still very happy with getting one at this price and going to wear it as my beater for the next several weeks, to see if I become more endeared with it than the SD1970.

      • How to apply SS67 cvoupon?

      • it comes up as $97.07 in AUD and in 67.66 USD, when i enter SS6 it says code cannot be used in combination , although i am not using any other code so i am confused. can someone help plz?

        • Just checked on my laptop & the code is still working. Price comes to US$58.68 delivered, bargain.

  • +2

Grabbed a green with steel band

  • Anyone recommend a cheap set of tools to resize band and potential battery change in my other quartz watches?

    • +2

Spend the money on a Bergeon, i tried many cheap ones and they just dont compare. Buy once buy right.

Battery change depends on the type of caseback what you need

    • resize band

Sd1970 comes with a basic pin pusher? Flimsy as hell but does the job

    • Check out amazon for those watch tool kits, handy having a variety of tools for<30$.

I also bought a Bergeon spring bar tool from eBay, good to have a proper one.

@Fergy1987, I'd like to get a Bergeon spring bar tweezers tool, about $250 but would make life easy easier, most ss bracelet end links are a prick to get out. eBay seems like the best place, there is $20 off with eBay plus. Still expensive tools.

  • +1

So as someone who doesn't know watches, what makes this such a deal for $87? Never heard of this brand.

    • +2

One of the best specs for a watch you can get.

      • sapphire crystal (most scratch resistant glass put there)
      • seiko movement
      • willard seiko body
      • great lume

Overall, one of the most well-regarded watch in aliexpress. You get a lot for the price you are paying

      • great lume

totally underselling it, i dont think there is anything else sub $100 with better lume haha

    • +3

Compared to brand name watches, you're getting a decent amount of watch. Around $100 will get you a Seiko 5 with an inferior movement and hardlex glass(Seiko's lens - not as scratch resistant as Sapphire). A Seiko 5 has a 7S26 movement - this does not allow handwinding or stop the second hand when you set it(hacking).

This watch uses a NH35 movement which has a 41 hour power reserve, ability to handwind, hacking, and 6 beats per second. Higher end watches will often use a movement with 8 beats per second, though recently, some movements sacrifice higher beats for more power reserve. This is a great movement and very common in many watches. I have a few watches including some from Aliexpress, an Invicta with this movment The entire movement is mechanical. If this is a concern, you could look at either battery of solar watches. From a strictly practical point of view, I don't think you can go past solar/quartz if you don't mind the second hand.

This watch is a homage of a Seiko 6115-8110 worn by the Captain Willard in the Vietnam war movie Apocalypse Now. Homage is similar to replica but generally changes the logo. In my opinion, an out of production watch is more acceptable - Personally, I'd generally be happy to wear a homage of an out of production historic watch, I probably wouldn't wear even a homage approaching replica territory of a current watch. In the watch community there is debate as to where the line lies and what is acceptable - you need to remember that this watch has used an iconic design. For other homages, they may basically be fakes with different branding. Where that line lies is different for different people.

There is a lot of content on youtube if you're looking to learn more. Here's a review of this watch by "Just One More Watch" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TJUudXbAqo

      • New 5s have 4R movements, I think they have hacking, or maybe that's only on the "better" 4Rs uses in turtles, sammys etc (I personally don't care about hacking)

But the NH35 is a solid workhorse

    • +1

      Its a lume monster

    • +2

      Additionally, not mentioned above:
      • 200 metre water resistance
      • Screw-down crown
      • Ceramic bezel

Brand name watches with this and features noted by Gaeb and ihfree are commonly in the $600+ ballpark, often around $1K.

  • Green one OOS

  • Its gone up in price for me by $3 ($91.02) even using ss6 code, annoying as trying to convince myself to add yet another cheap a$$ watch to the "collection".

    • +1

Have you tried USD? I was getting >90aud until I switched to paying on USD (ended up 86aud-ish)

  • How to get SS band with this deal?

  • How would this go as a hiking watch? Is it durable?

    • if we're talking muddy hard slogs in humid af weather maybe look at gshocks? mudmaster?

This is excellent as a low cost beater for the discerning desk diver

      • Thanks I think I will look at a g shock. The cheap price of the Steeldive had me tempted last night. Glad I slept on it.

        • I'd still buy it, unless you are going to be smacking it against stuff all the time that could be an issue because it's an auto movement.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: Yeah I'd be worried about impacts. Might get a solar g shock

  • I bought one with the silver with the black strap. Very nice build, nice and heavy. Well packaged too if you are thinking of gifting it.

  • I have the black dial version of it and my friend has the blue dial.
This is a bargain price, considering it has a sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance and a ceramic bezel.

If you're after an after market strap, Barton and strapify make some nice straps that will fit this.
Be aware that even though it mentions a 20mm strap diameter, it is under that so a standard strap won't fit (its 19.8 mm from memory).
