  • Already have the CCA CRA, KZ ZSN and letshouer S12. Is there any real advantages buying either of the Moondrops?

    • Most probably, IEM rolling 🤣

I also have S12, KZ PR2. Feel like need another one..

      • +1

Quite cheap enough hobby to start with but sure mounts up in the long run. As well have Focal, B&W, Nuraloop, Skull Candy, Sennheiser, Tozo A1 a few more I think. Enough is enough and must resist.

        • I also could've bought a home tbh lol

There's a relative coming from USA, I have been going crazy to find out what should I buy from there.

Any suggestions? Was thinking to try Audiofrog or Focal Utopia M line, already have Be setup with Zapco AP amps and Helix DSP.

        • hehe, indeed. Drives you nuts if you're anywhere near audiophile, searching for that 'perfection'. I've dabbled around for years until I came across Grado and decided not much will beat that, and was happy for some time. But then IEMs came along.. and Timeless kept me happy for a bit. Finally spent a bit more for the first time and got Focal Clears. That's it for me… endgame. It is simply fantastic. Messing about for so long with the cheap and mid range stuff, the Focals blow away even the Grado's, which is really something to me anyway.

          • @TheDimov: I am Sennheiser HD800 guy. I might get Clear but I keep telling myself not to get any more Focal. IEMs are good but the risk of get tinnitus with them is high :S Also, ear infections.

            • @sqheaven: Ive not tried the Sennheisers you have, the Clears are the only really high end ones Ive tried and they are so wonderful, for me. Yeah IEMs Ive had and loved for a few years now but fatigue quickly with them and also the ear canal started to hurt for days on end so… back to the over-ears :)

All good fun. Expensive… but good fun. :)

              .. but expensive :D

              • -1

@TheDimov: Stay away from IEMs as much as possible lol

I found out people do tips rolling, wth

                • @sqheaven: i am tired of all the troubles with IEMs, I for one am taking your advice and staying away : )

for now. i actually have the fatfreq mini's on order… simply have to try them… its really not fun being an audiophile! I liked the good ol' days with AM/FM radio, bring those days back!! :D

                  • @TheDimov: Now it's Tidal and other streaming services lol

I am waiting for a cure for tinnitus :D

                    • @sqheaven: i cant believe how quickly cd's and dvd's came and went! :D

yep you dont want tinnitus.. i have it.. never gets easier. So most definitely look after them ears..

      • Oh I was curious about KZ PR2, how’s it compared to the S12? Does it have the usual planar slam, fast dynamics, sharp treble?

        • I plug both in my Chord Mojo and do a side-by-side comparison. KZ PR2 requires more volume to open up.

I am still trying to figure out which one is better. Maybe both are not yet broken in. I only listen to a song or two and then put them back lol

My first impression of KZ PR2 was that they are better than the S12. Later this perception changed when I had to increase the volume to open up the KZs. My Mojo is almost at peak volume when they start to open up. I read the same comments from others.

The only issue is KZ comes with trash cable and tips. But when I put the S12 cable to KZ, they sounded terrible. I need to buy a new cord to make them shine. There's also a missing mesh, which was there on the first batch, which supposedly improved the sound.

They both sound different. S12 is a bit more refined sound (detail gives the airy feeling). KZ does not have a lot of detail, but I felt they have better bass.

In the end, I put my S12 for sale when I first heard KZ lol

          • +1

@sqheaven: Thanks for the review mate. Yes I agree with KZ having shit cables and tips, I’ma bit worried this might not suit me too since I’ve bad experience with their fitting on my ears. I kinda wished I kept some of the Moondrop’s spring tips, they’re prob the best tips I’ve used!

The moondrop blessing and variations are on sale too. I have the Variations and think they're incredible iems.

    • The Blessing2 is on sale for AU$ 404 ,
but you can also get it for AU$ 376 on Amazon - here

How do you compare the Variations to the other Moondrop IEMs ?

      • +1

It's not a fair comparison but I've only listened to the starfield that I bought my wife. The variations are on a different planet in comparison and are not even close in quality, separation, detail, wide soundscape. If I lost my pair, I would buy the variations again at full price. At 15% discount it's a no brainer.

        • +1

Agreed. I once walked into a store to buy the B2D, but tried a few models up and down for funsies first. Walked out with Variations instead.

        • It's not a fair comparison but I've only listened to the starfield

Well, I was hoping for a comparison between Variations and Blessing2 [B2].

I've been so smitten by the B2, that I'm more curious of the S8 and not the Variations.

          I see/read that Variations is more "V-shaped", and I don't like bass-y sounds anyway,
but honestly, I have not tried the Variations either, so I look for comparisons.

The most lauded Moondrops to me,
have been Aria (for its price-point), Blessing2 Dusk (Crinacle tuning) and the Variations.

The only Moondrop that I have heard is the B2 (as I own them),
and even then, I just got the Starfields, and skipped the Aria instead.

So, waiting for them to arrive :-)

      • +1

Yep, coming from the KXXS, KATO. The Variations are truly a step up. The biggest difference for me was the extra sub-bass presence.

However haven't heard the Blessing2 before. So not sure if the Variations are worth almost double the asking price of the Blessing2. Some owners call the Variations a side grade.

The Variations has better box art than the Blessing2 FWIW.

        • So not sure if the Variations are worth almost double the asking price of the Blessing2.

          This.

I have the Blessing2 and for the price, it's been amazing to me.
( I pair it with DACs such as Questyle M15 or the Cayin RU6, and it sounds great )

Still, I just want a pair of IEMs that I can settle on,
          something like Thieaudio Monarch MK2,
so I can have something won't leave me curious for more…haha.

Highly recommend grabbing the Chu if you want to dip your toes in IEM world

Quite a lot to choose from. I have the Moondrop Dawn, but no iems. Any recommendations for one under $200?

Also, is the wireless one worth getting? I like the cat

    • +1

Nekocakes aren't especially good, but the Sparks aren't bad from an audio perspective.

Both are a bit lacking in terms of QoL features from memory, when compared to more expensive ones, though you can't really complain too much at that price point.
Though do note that the Sparks were MoonDrop's first attempt at a TWS IEM, so that's fair enough.

Additionally, they've both been around for a couple of years, so tech's improved since then.

No ANC for the Sparks, don't think there's any for the Nekocakes.

      • Thanks, I'll skip the wireless.

What about an iem under $200?

        • +1

Out of the MoonDrops on sale, the Aria's are apparently quite good.

Decent tuning and a good price.

Haven't tried them personally, this is just second-hand information.

  • Im very wary of these IEM deals now….i bought a pair of thre KZ PR2's from the last IEM listing from their "official store", based on comments here.

1st there were 2 delays, where i was encouraged to wait, as literally nothing happened.

Next they finally arrived weeks later (just the other day).

Then they were defective out of the box.

Speaking of, the package was posted locally form an address in Auburn, NOT from China.

I left a message about them being DOA, a rude person i assume was the local drop shipper they use, in Auburn said "If you dont like them, send them back to China" (no further contact)

After kicking up a stink at Ali, i seem to finally have gotten some sort of rep form the actual KZ Store, who gave a comical Chinese address to return them to, one that Australia Post wouldn't accept (i asked because it looked farcical) even if i felt compelled to send them back and lose money in postage.

Spent the arvo with Ali in chat trying to get them to see the nonsense value of trying to force me to send them to an address Australia Post wont accept and laughed at, when the senders address is clearly from 30 minutes away in Auburn.

Be very careful, unless you apparently like losing $50 to some dodgy company that drop ship these in to a 3rd party to distribute and offer no customer service beyond encouraging you to lose money returning them, to them, when they didnt send them to you directly….

I thougth Ebay returns were bad, until i finally had to deal with Ali…

      Well, there's your issue, hah.

This post is about Moondrop and not KZ, :-P

I've only had experience with handful of ChiFi brands [CCA , Moondrop, Tanchjim, 7Hz],
and I highly rate Moondrop as I was surprised how wonderful the tuning was.
      (I have the Blessing2 )

Now, it would have been your bad luck to receive a defective IEM
and this can also happen with any brands,
but if you used to Paypal to pay, then I suggest going through Paypal
for all your warranty claims, as they should apply some pressure on their Chinese counterpart (AliPay, etc.)

      • +1

Thanks for your thoughts, and yes while thats KZ, its alogn the same lines, aka, dealign with Ali when somethign goes wrong…

sadly if you go to paypal and try and report the issue you get this:

"Since this purchase was made on AliExpress, you must contact them to resolve any issues you are facing."

i never thought id utter the words, "give me Ebay returns"

        Cheers

        • "Since this purchase was made on AliExpress, you must contact them to resolve any issues you are facing."

I didn't realize that would happen.
Currently, I'm dealing with Paypal, because of AliEx items that weren't delivered to me,
so I presumed that Paypal would take care of warranty / RMA claims.

My bad, in giving that advice to you earlier,
as it made sense to me, to try to use Paypal's complimentary insurance service.

          • +1

@whyisave: Actually i noticed via another route you can choose to "continue filing with PayPal", so your advice wasnt bad….

you have to provide proof that youve contacted Ali Express. Not sure how it will go, but ill give it a crack

            Sorry for the hijack…
